PASSION
DAY-4
Her forehead crinkled slightly, as the first rays of sunlight teased her facial features. Geet sighed softly, and stretched the stiff muscles of her body, opening her eyes slowly. She said a little prayer to her Babaji for keeping her alive through the night, and was just about to grab her diary when she felt the living daylights knocked off her. Maan sat on her bed, close to her feet, staring at her intently, and with a smirk on his face. She closed her eyes, and shook her head to get rid of her illusions. Geet kya soch rahi hain tu? Yeh yahaan nahin hain, yeh yahaan nahin hosakte'
She opened her eyes again, this time with a snap, and saw Maan staring at her unblinkingly. Geet got up immediately, and pulled the covers over her body consciously, stammering, "Aap'.aap yahaan?"
Maan glanced at her covered body once, with a slightly raised eyebrow, and then said, huskily, "Aren't you wearing clothes, Geet?"
Geet looked down immediately, her cheeks blushing. She slowly said, in a soft voice, "Aap yahaan kyun..?"
Maan pulled the covers off her bandaged foot, and caressed it gently. She closed her eyes, as his fingers ran softly over her feet, slightly tickling her. His voice broke her reverie.
"How's your foot? Tumhe aabhi bhi dard ho raha hain?" he asked, his eyes fixed on her foot.
Geet looked away from him, and nodded her head for a no. Maan stared at her for some time, and said, "Tumhe yeh lautane aaya tha."
He held up the delicate anklet in his hand, and said, "It was on my bed." Maan got up from the bed, and placed the anklet over the dressing table.
He turned to face her, and saw her looking everywhere else except at him. He thought of last night, when she had found her mercilessly crushed ear-ring.
*****
She started leaving the room, the ear-ring still clutched tightly between her fingers, when Maan held her hand, and stopped her.
"Mat jao, Geet", he said quietly.
"Nahin'woh..aap thak gayee honge'aap so jayiye'" she said, with great difficulty between her tears, and limped out of the room slowly, before Maan could stop her.
"Damn it", he punched the wall in frustration, and anger over himself.
*****
Geet still sat on the bed, holding the covers tightly to her chest, while Maan stared at her. Suddenly, not being able to bear the silence, he sighed heavily, went up to her bed, and picked her up in one swift motion. Geet gasped out loud, her eyes darting at the door of her bedroom immediately, only to see it closed, and locked firmly. The clock on the mantelpiece caught her attention, and she saw it was 7am. No one in the household is probably up yet, she thought.
Maan carried her to the washroom, and stood her gently inside. He closed the door softly after murmuring, "I'll be outside. Let me know when you're done."
Geet stood still in the washroom, for the first few minutes, before shaking her head, and beginning her morning routine. She was touched with his concern and care for him. Yeh itne caring bhi ho sakte hain, Babaji. Mujhe toh yakeen nahin hota. Uss ear-ring ki baat ki wajah se shayed aur bhi' she thought coyly, as she heard his steps outside, pacing her bedroom patiently.
Once she was done, she slowly opened the door, and stood silently, wondering how to call him. Maan stood facing the window, staring out. Geet stared at his back, nervously knotting her dupatta. Bulana toh parega, agar khud chalke bahar gayii toh phir gussa ho jayenge.. lekin, kaise bulaun inhe? She thought in confusion.
He stared out of the window, cursing himself for probably the millionth time. Why did I have to break her earring like that? And why did I have to keep it there for her to see? As if, I wanted her to see it. Pehle se hi thik se baat nahin karti hain, aur aab yeh' mujhe'
His thoughts shattered, as her soft voice fell on his ears.
"Suniye" she said, her voice laced with shyness.
Maan turned back, to see Geet standing near the washroom door, where he had lowered her down. Her bandaged foot looked quite healthy now, but Maan smirked and moved forward, picking her up in his arms again. She lowered her eyes, clutching hold of his neck tightly, as he gently eased her on the bed again. She stared at him in confusion, as he pulled out a first-aid box from beneath the covers of her bed.
"Yeh, yahaan kaise.." she said, puzzled but quickly stopped talking as Maan glanced at her.
Did he bring this with him? Babaji, yeh normally mujhe pagal kar dete hain, and now, this caring side is driving me absolutely out of my mind' aapne yeh kya kiya? She cribbed cutely.
Maan pulled the bandage off her foot gently, dressed the wound and placed a thin much less visible bandage strip over the cut. He looked at her and caught her staring at him with wide eyes. She lowered her eyes immediately, biting her lips. Maan smirked and picked up the first-aid box getting ready to leave the room.
Geet felt her tense muscles relax as he lifted himself off her bed, and started walking towards the door. Suddenly, he turned back, and grasped her waist as she sat at the middle of the bed in a daze. Geet gasped out loudly, feeling the breath knock out of her, as she saw his tight grip on her fragile waist yet again.
"Don't put too much pressure on this foot today, samjhi? If I see that it has not improved tonight, then you're going to be very sorry." He said menacingly, his eyes darting over all her facial features.
Geet gulped down her saliva and nodded her head obediently. Maan let go of her and then grabbed her back almost immediately. She sucked in a deep breath, as he kissed her nose and said, "You have your friend's reception tomorrow haina? I'll take you there. And, I won't be late this time, so don't dare to run off with someone else.WARNA'"
Geet closed her eyes, and nodded her head quickly. She didn't want to know what would happen or what he would do to her if she didn't listen to him. The idea was scary and strangely erotic, she thought with bright red cheeks. Maan walked out of her room kissing her rosy cheeks on the way out.
She held her cheeks gingerly, and snuggled down into the sheets firmly, hiding her burning face. Geet, you are NOT a teenager. Stop behaving like one. She tried to think of the number of times he had kissed her on her cheeks, but was genuinely surprised that she had lost count of the number of times he had held her waist, kissed her cheeks, forehead, and jaw or picked her up in his arms.
The number was high. Very high. Higher than I ever thought was possible. She thought, feeling her brain about to explode with the very high adrenaline rush coursing through her body.
Geet thought about the ear-ring she had discovered in his room just last night and how much she had been pained at the sight of its crumpled form. However, somehow, she no longer felt that pain in her heart. It was as if the pain was replaced by warmth. A passionate and burning ball of warmth. She made to reach her diary, and then, stopped.
All her thoughts were clouded with Maan that morning. She would not be able to write anything, she realized with a smile. Pagal ho rahi hoon main, and the level of my anxiety and madness is crossing limits every single minute. She sat up in bed suddenly, as she realized that her friend's reception was tomorrow and remembered how he had told her that he would definitely take her there tomorrow.
Iss baar kuch bhi hojaye, main kisi aur ke saath nahin jaungi' she thought with great determination. Even if I have to skip the function.
