Note:

Guys, really very sorry for not updating this. I had so many tests and homework to do that by evening, I'd be tired and lazy to even get up and have dinner... Have 3 more tests tomorrow and after that, I'll be free. So wish me luck and I'll post an installment or even a huge chapter tomorrow. I had intended to post a Valentine's day post but couldn't do that either. Thanks for the wait and sorry again. Can't ignore my studies. 😳

Chapter 20

The Geets' in the flowers disappeared singing the vocals and he knew then that he was in love. And he couldn't have been any happier. He was in love with Geet. But then, one question rose in his mind. Does she love me too? What if she doesn't? He saw Geet come out and he made up his mind. He'll find out about her feelings one way or another. He had to.

***

Geet noticed that Maan didn't turn right on the road needed that leads to the office. She asked confused, "Uh, Maan. Where are you going?"

Maan looked at her briefly before shifting his attention back to the road and taking a left turn. He hadn't replied a word. She asked again, "Maan, would you tell me?"

He didn't and she groaned in frustration. She stomped her feat lightly while sitting and waited, looking out the window not able to wait till he would open the suspicion. Ten minutes later, he made a turn again and screeched to a halt next to a huge building.

Entering the place, she said, "This is a gym. Why'd you bring me here?"

He came up from behind and walked around her saying, "Because you'll be learning how to fight from me."

Geet laughed badly thinking it was a joke. He crossed his arms across his chest and she realized he wasn't kidding. "Oh'you aren't kidding. But why?"

He walked close to her and took her hand in his. Looking into her eyes, he replied, "Geet, I won't take any chances after that attack. If at any time I can't be there for any reason, I want to make sure you aren't in danger. I want to make you sure you can defend yourself. At that time, you were defenseless and I didn't like the look in your eyes. I was there and as long as I am there, nothing will happen to you. I promise you that. But I won't take any chances. Now that he knows I'll always be there with you, he'll surely do something and attack when you're alone. At that time, I'll be satisfied that you can take care of them yourself. Please, for me. Listen to me."

Geet smiled feebly and wondered what good she had done to have such a person in her life. She put her other hand on top of his and blinked with a nod. Maan smiled back being gratified.

He pulled her scarf away and brought out a box. Opening it, Geet found a pair of shoes in them. She slipped her feet in them taking out the low heels she was wearing and then said full heartedly, "So Mr. Khurana, where do we begin?"

He joined his hands making a sound and said professionally giving an order, "Five rounds around the gym. Now."

Geet's eyes popped out. "FIVE!" She repeated. Never in her life had she been able to even complete two laps without stopping and five would be impossible. She suggested, "Can't we, like, um, start out easy or something?"

Maan laughed lightly. "Easy? Trust me, this is the easiest. It's gonna get bad."

Her eyes went wider, if that was even possible. More bad? Then this? Oh babaji, this was going to kill her. When Maan didn't ease up by her puppy dog face, she sighed and started. Maan stood in the center and boosted her and motivated her to keep going when she got tired.

Ten minutes later, she had completed four and had one more left. Geet said loudly so as to yell across gym, "You're what? A coach? Shouldn't you be practicing or running with me?" she didn't like that he was smirking and watching her sweat her butt off.

Maan suppressed a smile and replied back in the same loud tone, "I will. But I don't need to get in a fit position. You do. I already am fit."

She stopped and raised her eye brows. Fit? Him? Oh please! He ate like a pig. He continued, "Don't stop. Keep going. Just half hour left."

She gave him a glare and continued. Completing the rest of it, she plopped herself on the bleacher and he walked up to her, handed her a bottle and she raised her brow. But then, wasn't surprised to seeing him prepared. She figured he must have arranged it all knowing that she wouldn't have refused that.

She was already tired and running in jeans didn't help at all. She took off her coat. Even though it was snowing outside, all that running had actually made her sweat. He couldn't take his eyes off of her and she was oblivious to his gaze as she was too busy panting and trying to bring her breaths to normal while breathing hard.

Putting her hand by her stomach, she asked, "Are we done for today?"

He snapped out and took the bottle away. "Hey!" she whined.

"Too much water will make your stomach hurt. And no, we aren't done. Lots to do and little time. Come on, let's go."

She whined again but got up nevertheless. Walking behind him, he said, "You're going to have to stop whining sooner or later."

He flashed a smirk and she glared back. As much as she enjoyed the concern he had towards her, she wasn't enjoying all the physical exercises. She never had been the physical type of girl and suddenly this much physical activities were making her body numb.

***

She complained and complained but Maan listened to not one of it. He explained different way of attacks and how to dodge them. Then he asked her to attack him.

She said, "But you'll get hurt."

Maan smiled and replied, "You can't possibly hurt me."

She stayed rooted in her spot hearing the words. The words affected her in a way that wasn't possible. The emotion triggered inside of her. She was feeling tingly again. Trying to shut it off, she got ready to attack and moving from feet to feet, the way he taught her, she punched him with all her might.

Maan knew what it did to her and his heart smiled back. Now all he had to do was make her confess. And he was confident he would do that too. At present, he had to dodge the attack and he did. That too vey gracefully and Geet kept trying. A while later, he said, "Okay, why don't you first trying moving this?"

He pointed to the punching bag. Geet said, "They are always tough, as far as I've seen on T.V."

Maan laughed. "Now you get to know for yourself. Go on. Try it."

She fixed the boxing gloves in her tiny hand and got ready to punch it. But right when she was going to deliver the punch, Maan stopped her by holding her hand from behind. He said, "You're doing it wrong."

He moved her elbow at an angle, put his hands on her waist and shifted her slightly. Geet froze at the contact but tried to keep her attention focused on the bag and to what he was explaining instead of him and his touch.

He caught her looking at him and she quickly looked away. He flashed a grin for a second and then asked her to punch. She punched hard and better this time. "See! Keep going."

She continued punching and he gave her tips every now and then. As lunch time came, he finally let her go and even before eating lunch, she asked him to take her home. Once home, she first thing she dad was plop on bed and go to sleep! Maan tried to get her to eat first but she refused saying she was too tired and it was his entire fault. She was just joking around and he knew that.

He pulled the covers up and made the room dark, then went out to have his lunch.

Annie sat in the room thinking about what all she had learnt about herself today from the trip to the orphanage.

*FLASHBACK*

Annie entered the orphanage nervously and hoping to find out something today. She didn't want to be disappointed today as well. She found the nurse whom she was looking for. Her name was Mary. She asked her to come in and once in her office, she offered Annie water but she refused.

"Well, I guess I shouldn't keep you waiting long."

Annie nodded and took the file she was being handed. She opened it not sure what she'll find out. Inside it was just one picture. She looked up at the nun confused.

She explained, "This is the only paperwork we have other than the clothes you were wearing. I don't see how that can help you but this picture might. It was names on the back if you see."

Annie flipped the photo around and sure enough, she read three names. They were 'Ari, Gee, and Ya da.' They individually stood for Araina, Gee and Yash. But Annie didn't know that yet. This piece of information was nothing but another piece of mystery for her.

When she was small, everyone would call her Ari and she would call Geet as Gee because she couldn't say that 't' pronunciation at the end. Ya Da was written as she was lovingly call Yash as Ya and Da meaning brother.

Annie pleaded the nun, "Isn't there anything else that would help me?"

The nun shook her head sadly. "I'm sorry daughter. But this is all I can give you. All I'm allowed to give you. You can come back next week and meet the nun who was here when you were brought it. I had joined when you were adopted, so I do not know that much.

Annie nodded understandingly and Mary continued, "One thing I can surely tell you, your family didn't abandon you because they don't love you or because they didn't have enough money to take care of you. It was completely different. I wouldn't want to raise your hopes up, but Ann could tell you more about yourself then I can."

She asked, "Ann?"

"Yea, the nun whom I was talking about. She's in a different branch right now, but she's visiting next week. If you come in, you can find out more."

Annie stood up and nodded. "Thank you so much Miss. Mary."

"My please dear. I'll pray you find them soon."

Annie passed her a smile and left looking at the picture.

It was her, another girl taller and elder then her and another boy. At least from this, she could make an inference that she had an elder sister and a brother. She just hoped that there were full names so she could find then easily!

*FLASHBACK ENDS*

Annie got up and pulled the photo out again and looked at it for the hundredth time in the day. How could she not look at it? It was her family. The key to finding out who she really was. The key that would take her to her family. Each time, she looked at in differently hoping to make more sense of it then the last time. Each time she failed but that didn't stop her or dishearten her. She kept looking.

***

Maan woke her up in the evening and presented a plate full of food the minute she sat up. She scolded, "Maan, at least let me freshen up!"

He put the plate aside and let her get out of the bed. Coming back, she finished eating. Not only because she was starving, but also because it was her favorite food and Maan asked her to eat it. He was concerned for her.

After that, she had a video conference with Adi, who informed her that they had been successful in retrieving the video footage from the LCC Camera's and they had narrowed it down to two people who could be their culprit. Geet said she would be in office tomorrow to check it out.

Then she informed Maan that they could do their practicing after lunch tomorrow. He nodded understanding that she had come for work in first place. He couldn't ask her to make that a second possibility.

***

Night came up fast and Geet was still working on a project. Maan took the pillow and kept it on the couch. She looked up and asked, "Why are you going to sleep there?"

Maan gave a reason. "You're working there. So you continue, I'll be fine here."

"Don't be silly Maan. I always work and you still go to sleep on bed. Why is today different?"

He didn't know how to explain to her. Now that he knew his feelings towards her, it would get hard to control himself around her. At least till he was sure what she felt for him. He knew her feelings but was waiting for her to say it.

She continued looking at him, waiting for a response. Maan couldn't think of one and placed his pillow back on the bed and laid down. She smiled and went back to her work.

He turned the other way and kept telling himself not to turn her side. Or else everything will go wrong. Geet found his behavior a tad bit awkward and weird but as she finished her work, she turned the lights off and went to sleep too.
