If we go by Darr, SRK in the film misleaded the police by hanging his friend by his wish, then wrote a suicide letter that he was the one who was after Juhi as Kiran,etc... He misleaded everybody and eased the way for him to come near her...

It could be the same with Vikram's case, I would say clearly would be like this, If u noticed, he said first that u might told the police artist about my shakal, etc... Firstly to assure them that he knows that they can go into this and 2ndly which was a smart step that he told them where he is, coz he knows Maan's weak point, his anger, his Geet, etc...
