So in yesterday's episode we had to tolerate a lot of Devini, which we did, being the loyal fans that we are, but I just want to say, why does it have to be this bad? I mean I know it is hard to measure up to the characters and chemistry of Maan and Geet but even Dev has a pretty complex character and they could have really done a lot with that. Introducing Nandini as his love interest was not the worst idea from day one, but they have not built up a character and sometimes it feels like she is just a prop on the set.at times i feel they deliberately under play other characters to up Maan and Geet ... and yes when the track was brought in i had many expectations .. right from them bonding over playing cupids to Maan and Geet, to Nandu actually falling for Dev only to realise he cant love her back owing to his past... i somehow have looked at Sameer as someone who can portray many shades of Dev .. and was thoroughly disappointed ... however, Nandini's track started really well, but went on to become the run of the mill trip and fall, look into my eyes, nok-jhok romance ... 😕
Even though in the Amritsar track, the story did not seem to be very well thought out, most of the characters were well-developed and interesting. Even Lucky, who seemed to be there initially just for comedy got great character depth and Ahwaan executed this really well. Now we all like his character because we know him, and we know his story. Nandini, despite having a storyline revolve around her, got nothing. We still know nothing about her as a person, only that Dev is in love with her and now apparently she loves him too.The other day when they even mentioned for a second she wanted to pursue her PHD i was thrilled.. then i laughed .. she calls Geet didi, and Geet is all of 19, yeh ladki itni choti si umar main kounsi PhD karlegi .. however, though my dreams of wanting Geet to continue her studies are long shattered, i would love to see this happen with Dev ...😳 he can educate her and then they call fall in love 😛
Her entry was actually really cute with the rainbow umbrella, the nose buried in her book, and her natural disdain for men. I would love for them to build on her character as a something of a bookworm, which they refer to occasionally with the PhD and her always having to go to the bazaar to get books but I want her not just to say it but for it to be shown in her personality. Also, she was really sassy at first and now she just laughs at everything. To me, she started out with a lot of potential as a character and interesting love-interest for Dev but they have left her so flat as a character which is irritating because Dev's character is so loaded with history. there is no doubt they need to work on her character .. and give her more depth !!! m sure they knew why they got Melanie when they introduced Nandu...she was after a lead on an Imagine show ... i am sure they can still work on it .. they face still resistance from non Dev likers .. which is why this is happening in ll probability ...
I completely understand that the CVs have to have supporting tracks and am completely open to liking Dev and Nandini if only they would give her a character outside of being Dev's love interest. They have plenty of opportunity with her working in the office now so I reaaally hope they do this! Of course we want only Maneet but if they execute other tracks with a little more thought we might not feel that we are missing anything when they are not showing Maan and/or Geet.
Some things they could elaborate on:
What was Nandini studying when she was away from Amritsar? What would she want to do her PhD in?
Why does she doubt men in general? -i was hoping they would explore this .. she has two brothers has always been protected, she could have been a tom boy par she is girlie yet has a mind of her own !! why dont they show her using her mind ..??😲
What books does she keep reading?
Her relationships with characters other than Dev. Maybe she could have a cute friendship with Adi and/or Pinky i hope they build this and show how they become Geets pillar of support and how she helps Geet and learns certain things in the process as well.. also these people can become cupids and try and bring dev and nandu together since both of them cant muster courage to confess their feelings for one another .. ala . mera dil bhi kitna pagal hai yeh pyar toh tumse karta hai .. jab saamne jab tum aate ho.. kuch bhi kehne se darta hai .. oh mere saajan ... i woul love to also see a parallel song sequence between Maaneet and Devini ... do dil mil rahey .. types ...
She could be shown to know a lot of arbitrary facts, illustrating all that reading she seems to always be doing. she could want to be a writer .. Dev could encourage her .. she could read out to him... their thoughts could connect them ...!!! he could become her inspiration, the way he loves his family, the way he cares for his bro, the way he works and the way he treats Nandu .. can all be instrumental.. then imagine one fine morning she realises, he has hidden such a huge thing from her .. how would she cope with it then?will she still love him the same way? or would she fight it?
Like I said, I see so much potential!!! Do you agree with me? Can Dev-Nandini become more interesting?they can !! for sure, only if the audience give them a chance .. and dont close their eyes and shut their ears at the mention of Devini ...thanks for writing this... i always enjoy replying to you !!
