nicely written, thats a important issue, its always the case no matter how morden a man is, he will feel less of a man if his wife works and contributes to the normal running of the household (not that all are like that, but the percentage are high)

a woman can work but the moment she startd to make significant contribution to household running man become insecure, not the mans fault it has always been like that, the male species are programmed to be the provider no matter what species we look at

well thanks to GHSP at least people will come to know about this problem, it may or maynot solve the problem but the first step towards solving this problem is accepting that this problem exists

A very thought provoking post...

I for one am really looking forward to the arguments that Maan makes while asking/refusing her to work!

Its going to be interesting since she was working with him earlier...and he employed a fair number of women in his office too

While I did not like the fact that Geet stopped working right after they got married- I could atleast reconcile it to the fact that she had had a very eventful pregnancy thus far and may have needed rest...but now there is absolutely no reason why she could not step out and work.

Nice post. I agree with your opinion. I have slightly different take on
'
gender relations' he may not be old-fashioned but possessive and protective. We have to look at Geet from his eyes.

Thanks for all your replies!

@gshow2011: You have a very valid point. I don't think Maan would want to stop her because he doesn't like Geet working but more because he wants to prevent her from having to struggle for him, protect her from the cruel world etc. But this is actually part of the problem I have with their relationship as it is. When it comes down to it, after marriage, Maan doesn't let Geet really "do" anything. He keeps making decisions for her, like when he decided they weren't going to have SR to protect the baby, decided that Geet could never forgive Dev, decided to strip the baby room, decided that he needed to change the Amritsar family by buying their house, ALL decisions he took without talking to Geet, under the name of "protecting" her. Of course Maan is "possessive and protective" and of course that is not wrong (as I said in the original post, that is why this issue is so subtle and sensitive), but there is a fine line between being possessive and being controlling and I think most dark, romantic heroes toe that line, Maan included. We have to look at Geet from his eyes, yes, but he also has to look at Geet from her own perspective. Will she respect herself in the long run if she just submits to all his decisions, even when she knows she can do more? I think this is where a clash should happen before Maan and viewers can learn to respect Geet in a whole new light as she perfectly capable of rescuing her rescuer!

It'll be really funny if this is just all a rumour. If so, I think all of us have just fabricated a very well-thought out track for the next few weeks :)

PS Please don't take this in any wrong way. I just love discussing characterisation and offered some of my ideas regarding your posts :)

^ Your above comment about Maan taking all decisions since marriage are spot on! I had said the same when he had bought Beejis house. Sure he did it to save it from being auctioned off to someone else .. but yet again he had first done it and then told Geet. She herself was a little irritated if we remember.

@skg267

Hi I am back again to discuss this issue. First i would like to thank you for making this post. it is a topic that is very much in the forefront in India.it is true to say that the mind-set of a normal Indian male is that if the wife works the world (or should I say the 'Biradari' will assume that he is unable to provide for her and hence she has to work. This of course would injure his male ego. Even after working hard in uni and getting degrees women are told that they should not work.If that is so then why do we women put in so many years of hard work and get degrees? True there are times when a woman needs to choose between her career and her home. But if a proper balance can be struck between the two then there should be no reason why a woman cannot work and also bring up a family. I have also been a working mother for the past 10 years now.I too faced opposition from m husband and his family at the beginning but somehow my husband's thought process was not narrow. He simply told me one thing..."if u feel u can manage both then go ahead...I have no objections"...Not only that but at each and every step he not only supported me but provided a helping hand also.

If MSK is against Geet working it could only be because of his ego.
He needs to understand that she wants to work to help him out of his difficulties. Once he realises that what she wants to do is because she loves him I am sure things will be ok.

This is a good way to make male chauvinists in our society realise that if a girl studies so hard she also needs to get recognition for her talents and capabilities. They should realise that both husbands and wives have a desire to be recognised in society. So long as the wife can strike a proper balance between her home and career I don't see whats wrong in the wife working also.

Hope the CVs treat this issue carefully and pass on a social message to the males and females out there.

Sorry for using the term male chauvinism ...hope I have not offended any males on the forum...(Although I assume that 99% of GF members are females).

I agree with all of you. Their is male/female, husband/wife perspective to the given situation. Own st of valid reasons. Both views if looked at carry same weight. I wish the CVs show a good balance in dealing with the two delicate situations. Just like how they tried to resolve trust issue between Arjun and Maan.

I will also like to add, it is hard to accept loss , defeat, lack of control, pain of not being able to provide comfort zone for your family, bare insult , in real life also people praise when you are flying high and condemn badly when high tide is low, human nature.

Maan - from what I have seen had always encouraged Geet to be self reliant in HP days and appreciated when she moved ahead professionally by her grit. So basically he's not the typical chauvinist husband who'd oppose a working wife coz of hurt ego. 😊

For though even earlier he despised women for either their weaknesses or their tendency to manipulate emotionally(as per his POV,changed later when Geet came in his life and worked in his office despite so many struggles) ,but he supported Geet reporting legally against even her brother for his wrong deeds so he has nothing against women's uprise in society.
But what may lead him to protest Geet for working to financially aid him may be coz he always prided himself to be MSK-who had handled, earned a lot of wealth and was confident that his wit and hard work could not lose. Also perhaps-his own helplesness to find a solution for the first time might lead to frustrated outburst
Anyways lets see what ultimately happens-Phew!! funny how a fictional character's misery compels one to write a thesis😆😆

i think this will be touched upon slightly...but it might not be the reason why maan doesn't want geet to work...i can't wait to see what the reason is...
