Civil society and people from different shade of life have demanded of the apex court to take notice of the illegal airing the banned Indian channel, besides directing Pemra to arrest and cancel the licence of all the cables that are running the Indian channel hitherto.
Dr Fyza Alam, while talking to this news agency here Saturday, said that it was the duty of Pemra inspectors to visit their areas to check that whether the operators have blocked all the channels as directed by the government.
She said that dramas aired by Star Plus spread like virus in Pakistan, which are badly damaging our social fabric. The dramas aired by Star Plus become talk of the town as people from all walk of life are seemed talking the dramas even in places like schools, university cafes, bus stops, family gatherings and parties have become the centre of discussion of Star Plus dramas.
"Indian never wins over us through military invasions that is why it resorted to destroy our cultural by its dramas and movies," she added and urged the government to formulate an effective strategy to monitor the hundreds of cable operators unlawfully working round the country. However, one should pin little hope to make the move a success sans the public support and Pemra.
Most of the viewers were of the opinion that ostentation & lavish life style presented in soaps & dramas are dragging them away from austerity & contented life style and provoked them status consciousness by kicking off the race of materialism in their minds. Star Plus has extinct the shyness among viewers, more boldness and blunt attitude has been prevailing in the society. "Instead of banning channel like Geo Super, Pemra must take effective measure to stop Star Plus," said Sabbir Hussain, Assistant Professor. "It has been found that the gap between modernists & traditionalists has widely increased due to the Indian channels; majority of our youngsters feel proud to celebrate non-Islamic events & festivals ie Valentines day, new year, April fool and Basant but, on the other hand, have no idea about Ramazan, Eid, namaz and rooza," he added.
Earlier, the Supreme Court also called for ban on airing of Bollywood films on TV as well as in theatres. The ban was made on August 25, 2010, by an SC bench, headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry.
Pemra directed all cable operators to close Indian TV channels. According to Pemra, a message was given to all cable operators to close all Indian TV channels, and if someone caught by running the Indian TV channels will be arrested and his licence will be cancelled, besides facing legal action.
