My take on the theme

Six people have liked my post even before I posted anything! Now the pressure is more to write something sensible to justify the likes. Before I proceed, Bri that was brilliant. As always you did a thorough analysis of each post and put across your thoughts as crisply and as clearly as possible. Am afraid I don't know where to classify myself. People who have read me so far may be in a better position to do so I guess. All I can say from my four-year Hindi soap watching experience is that watch a show with an 'attached detachment', if that term makes any sense. In other words, don't get your hopes too high lest they be dashed to the ground nor leave your hopes so low that you would willing subject yourself to daily torture even if the show deteriorates. I made the mistake of sticking to a show for better or worse for nearly one and a half years through nonsensical tracks only because I loved the lead jodi. At the end of it I had a bitter taste in my mouth. Hope I have learnt my lesson from that experience and will not hang around if this one goes down the drain but then who knows the future?

So what do I feel about the current show? I must admit that this one has so many positives to it that they outweigh the negatives. The theme is very strong. The lead characters are well etched and by and large are consistent although there may be the occasional straying (from what I have understood them to be, that is). The lead actors are brilliant at their job and have amazing chemistry. The direction is mostly good and innovative. The crew do feed us visual as well as cerebral treats from time to time to keep the interest. There is a good mix of romance, humour, drama and action although sometimes there can be some loss of logic but then who or what is perfect, least of all a show which is forced to air 6 days a week ? Does that mean we should quietly watch the show? No, at least I would like to retain the option of voicing my views, good and bad, from time to time. Would that make a difference to the show? I certainly have no such illusion but this forum has provided me with an outlet to channelize my feelings and for that I am grateful.

My take on the episode

An intelligent episode that brought out the contrasts in the lives of the two eighteen year olds in Maan's life. On the one hand is his wife, Geet, and the other hand, his sister Anwesha.

Geet learns that her husband has left for Chandigarh without her knowledge but is quick to hide her ignorance of this when Dadi questions her. Loved the way she did not let Dadi know that there was something wrong in her relationship with her husband although she herself was sad that he did not inform her before he left. Made her feel even more isolated from him.

As though to dispel her gloom comes in the trio from KC. They cheer her up to some extent. More importantly their praises of Maan Sir and his enormous love for his bride made her wonder whether she may have been a little too hasty in presuming he no longer loves her. Looks like Romeo has ripped off the label on a gift given by someone else and put his own name there, going by his surprise at seeing at his 'own' gift.

Geet then sees Maan's gift to her and opens it to find a glass sphere of a lovely couple which reminds her of her times with Maan. Before she could admire it to her heart's content, she gets distracted by Dadi's call and drops the sphere, shattering it in the process. Now is there a cause for worry here? Does this signify that Maaneet's relationship is breaking? I think not. So far such so-called inauspicious acts have only led to better understanding between Maaneet. Eg: Dargah scene which was preceded by Maan's photo frame shattering and Geet's dupatta getting caught in a nail and tearing. Going by symbolism, sphere shattering is akin to the shattering of the dream world Geet lived in. She will soon be brought back to the real world where things will not be hunky dory always. Even after the shattering of the glass, the doll couple were intact and together. So Maaneet will definitely be together. Anyway, Geet who is already highly strung by the events of the last few days is worried about her relationship and does not sleep through the night.

In the same house is another eighteen year old who is also not able to sleep - Anwesha, Maan's sister. While Geet's sorrow stems from her husband's unwillingness to be physically intimate with her even after their marriage, Anwesha's problem is that she has bedded a man before wedding him and she has now realised that he may not be interested in her after all. This was the irony of fate. One girl is sad because she thinks her husband does not love her and the other is sad because she knows her lover has taken advantage of her.

The next morning Anwesha goes to meet Arjun in the hope that what he had said to her the previous day was all part of a joke. However, she is shocked to find out that his promises to her the night she gave herself to him were the ones which were jokes and he really had no intention to further their relationship. His single point objective is to destroy Maan's peace through her and she was merely a pawn in his game. He goads her into telling Maan what he had done to her in the hope he can get his revenge. Anwesha is shaken and, on her return, meets with an accident.

Here comes the second irony of fate. Geet and Dadi rush to the hospital where Anwesha is hurt. They learn that the accident was not serious, just a hurt in the eye. This proves a blessing in disguise for because of this physical hurt in Anwesha's eye, Geet's mind's eye gets opened. The doctor who had treated her, meets her and inadvertently reveals the truth about the complications relating to her pregnancy and her advise to Maan to stay away from physical relations for the safety of the baby. Geet finally comes to know the real reason for Maan's strange behaviour and as expected feels guilty at having been rude to him and suspecting his love for her and also feels grateful that he has sacrificed his own desires for the safety of her and her baby.

So as feared, Maan will be restored his demi-God status and another golden opportunity to learn from past mistakes would be lost. Communication or the lack of it will still be the thorn in the flesh of Maaneet's relationship.

General Comment:

In the shows I've seen so far, the female lead is the one who keeps things from her husband and makes great sacrifices, including letting him think the worst of her because she cannot bear to see her man in pain. Finally when the man realises the goodness of his wife or lover, he will beg forgiveness which the saintly woman would grant.

In this show, the tables are turned. It is the man who goes to great lengths to hide things from his wife for her own good and when she finds out about his sacrifices she will be the one begging for forgiveness which the saintly man would give. Maanman would become Maangod again.

Can we not see both leads realise their mistakes and making amends together? Why is the power of communication not emphasised more in these shows? Is it to conveniently cause misunderstandings in the future too?

OK Finished reading your posts Bri and I know that only you could come up with such posts....The little I have known of you...you always look at the realistic side of everything...You have a detached approach and voice your opinions based on the same.....

I agree most of us are obsessed or borderline obsessed with this show.....Or else how do you explain the Den where each night and day intelligent and smart people gather together and dissect, discuss and debate about the aired episode of a fictional show and its future storyline.....All of us are so hooked that sometimes we lose the grasp on reality and may tread the fine line between fact and fiction...But what is more important is do we know this?? If we do then we are safe.....If not then God help us (Hopefully)😆😆

Why do I watch any show? Because it gives me an escape...An escape from the monotony of real life...Coz we all know real life sucks sometimes...😆😆...

The story, the characters and the presentation of a show are the basis of an attachment to a show....We know that what we're watching is fiction but somehow during the process of watching the show we become emotionally attached to it....There may be a particular character that we like or some element of the story...Sometimes it so happens that we are able to connect to a particular thread in the story which has some similarity to our real lives.....But emotional involvement is always there...Why do we do this?? The answer lies in the fact that just like our real life our brain registers the onscreen characters as real and responds to them in a similar fashion...How would you react if the same thing happened to someone close to you...you might laugh with them when something funny happens and cry when they are hurt...so our brain reacts the same way with onscreen characters too because it feels that they are real....

Now, why does this happen you ask??? Because the stories told by the writers most of the time are derived from some real-life experience that he/she might have had or maybe someone close to him might have experienced it...That may be his starting point and then based on that info he weaves a story around it...We as viewer take that woven cloth and stitch it as per our imagination....We start hating the negative characters and adoring the positive one so much so that we even overlook their flaws in real life.....We even forget that they are just portraying a character envisioned by the writer and given life by the director....In reality they might be so far off from the character that they play on the screen that we can't even imagine it..😊....Take the example of Arun Govil who played Raam in the first mega-serial on TV Ramayan....People were so enamored by his onscreen portrayal that they thought him to be Raam in real life too...He was worshiped everywhere he went....That's the power of fiction....And that's why when we watch television shows we enter a world of imagination which we perceive to be reality and react accordingly....

Now the question is how far is too far...Well the answer may vary from person to person...and also his perception of reality...If he can detach himself emotionally from what is being shown Onscreen after the 20 so minutes of the show is over then Kudos to him...But its easier said than done...Just like in real life we analyse, dissect and try to resolve situations we want the same to be done with the story and characters of the show....and that's where this forum or any other plays a pivotal role...This is where we come to express our takes on a particular track or even vent ....😆....Well, bottled up emotions can be detrimental to our health so its better to spit it out...😆...but that has to be done maintaining some decorum and some sanity....Losing control in any situation worsens the situation so its better to stay calm and collected...And also stay real

My Take on the episode

Oh!! Yupppiee....Maan Singh Khurana ups and runs the morning after his first fight post-marriage....how mature....instead of sitting and explaining to his pregnant already stressed wife the reasons behind avoiding her ...he prefers to desert the battlefield...or maybe the thought of answering the painful questions in Geet's eyes may have been the trigger for his escape...All said and done MSK was missing throughout the epi and was not missed...atleast not by me...😆😆

Geet finds out from Dadi where Maan has run off to lick his wounds and when informed acts as if she already knew it lest Daadi finds out about their problems....Then on Daadi's exit...
she ponders over the sudden change in the behavioral pattern of Maan....Well you'll know soon enough dear and then you'll again start worshiping the ground he walks on 😆

Romeo, Pinky and Manisha visit Geet and inquire about the SR which again sends her in FB mode where she remembers Maan leaving from the room and is again saddened by it....

Then follows a funny segment on opening of Gifts...And Romeo joking that even Pawandeep has sent a gift...Pawandeep is the one of the CVs of GHSP...and maybe the remark was directed at her...Then Romeo's phone rings and work beckons...and they all leave bidding farewell to Geet...

Geet while going through the gifts comes across one from Maan...she opens it to find a beautiful showpiece with a groom carrying his bride enclosed in a glass bubble....😳...but the next moment Daadi's call startles Geet and she drops the showpiece and it shatters....And Geet is distraught....Well, I am no symbolism expert....But I think the breaking of the glass is to signify that relationships are as fragile as glass and a slip be it a word or a gesture can shatter the relationship into million pieces ...So cherish and protect what you have lest it be lost forever....Another symbolism could be that only the bubble breaking was meant to signify that all the barriers of miscommunication which were covering the bride and groom like a cloud will be shattered and will bring clarity to their relationship...Well, I am not an expert on this but this is what I felt....

Geet again thinks about all that transpired between her and Maan the previous night...And Lo and Behold the miracle of all miracles the most controversial dialogue uttered by Maan is nowhere to be seen in the flashback remembered by Geet...đŸ˜ČđŸ˜Č....Wah!!! Ghajini anyone...😆😆....Well, something doesn't feel right to the audience ...Edit it out...I wish they had done this yesterday and spared us the agony.....Talking about agony...Oh!! I cried with Geet today and for her too...😭...Poor girl has to go through so much of pain always...😭

On the other end we have NES going through FBs of her own where she is questioning the motives behind Arjun's behaviour....Well, if we knew we would surely tell her....other than him wanting to see her cry and in turn see Maan cry 😕...we have nothing....We are traveling in the same boat as NES 😆😆...The next day NES confronts NEB and he tells her about his real motives behind all the charade and NES is heart-broken...Well I pitied her today....but well if she was stupid enough to trust NEB even after knowing that he was NT's brother and also after the multiple warnings that Maan gave her ...then she had it coming...Although I don't condone what NEB did but what happened between NES-NEB was consensual and not forced....

NES has an accident and Geet and Daadi run to the hospital worried about her...But then when they find out she's alright..they heave a sigh of relief....Then Geet goes to fetch some aqua for NES and bumps into the doc who treated her....The doc then reveals the reason behnd Maan's abstinence and Geet learning the truth again re-instates him to the God status...Wah! Wah! How can the God in this serial ever be wrong???😡

I don't understand why the CVs always make Geet look bad and Maan look like God...In the fight that they had both were at fault...both said the wrong things and both need to apologize to one another...but no Geet has to be the subservient one...Why does Maan have to get away with hurting her all the time...His heart might be in the right place but he did hurt Geet...So he should apologize too....And I want Geet to give him a piece of her mind for making her go through hell...This two sure as hell need some marriage counseling...or someone to tell them that the key to a successful marriage is communication

The precap was basically the same NEB office scene played out in the hospital....I for one want the NES to be a strong today's woman and slap NEB and start a new life without him. She is young and its not like this is the end of the world....😆😆...unless the CVs show her to be pregnant...which is a big no-no from my side

Well, let's wait 'n watch...that's what we do anyways....😆😆

U girls already opened today's den and filled up 3 pages? 👏 We have moved from phast to super duper phasssssssttt
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bri, A personal note of thanks to you. We have a lot of talented and creative people in the den who inspire others to use their creativity and intelligence (atleast some). I am in awe of how you guys manage to write up such brilliant stuff all the time. Opti, Jo, Anj, Polki, Vrushali, Shonuu, Caco, Sharmishta, Anvi, Kavi, Pixie, Geeky, Malli, Sharmi, Geet, Geets and many many more. I never get tired of reading all your works. Brilliant. 👏

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Independence of thoughts

Note to CV's

It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinion; it is easy in solitude after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is to try to please everyone - Bill Cosby

It is important that you keep the public entertained. That is your business, one you chose to excel in. But you are where you are today because you had a good story to tell. We have stuck with you through all these months because we believe in your ability to tell a story differently.
Trust your capabilities and continue telling us the story you have in mind. We as public have the rights to judge, comment, accept, reject your story. But it is not our story to tell. In your effort to give us what we want, you sometimes land up ruining the essence of the characters and eventually your story.

Note to viewers

I think we ought always to entertain our opinions with some measure of doubt. I shouldn't wish people dogmatically to believe any philosophy, not even mine.
Bertrand Russell

Each one of us lead our lives our own way and have different priorities. Our expectations from situations are different. Not everyone of our opinions is right.
When we are listening to someone else's story, what you have to say about it is just an opinion. If you expect the story to be re-defined, you are expecting too much. Irrespective of what they show, someone is bound to get upset.
It is a fictional story being told by someone else. Sit back, enjoy, scold, fight, voice your opinion. Once done, wait for the next episode.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everything comes with a price tag

The public life is one entered more by the patience of the poetic ear than by the sharpness of the pen.

"If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. Don't complain." Maya Angelou

We as individuals have a choice to make whatever we want of our lives, our destiny. Once we make our choice, we should be willing to face the consequences. We love you extensively, we watch you thoroughly, we critique you openly. Take it or leave it. Choose what you do carefully. Yes, the right we have is to judge your work and not you as an individual. But did you actually believe that all the audience is intelligent enough to understand that? You knew better (Hopefully). You want to cry about it, do it in private. You chose to be here, it comes with a price.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Emotional Expectations

"Fiction is like a spider's web, attached ever so lightly perhaps, but still attached to life at all four corners. Often the attachment is scarcely perceptible.

Characters on screen are the easiest way to fill in some of the imperfections to make our imperfect life's perfect. The closer the character is to what you are in person or what you want to be as a person, the more attached you get to the character and hence grows your expectation. But, there is a very thin line between enjoyment and obsession. Beware of where that line if for you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Episode Analysis -

I am yet to watch the episode. But from what I read, this is my analysis today

đŸ€Ł

I watched some important scenes. Here is my update -

1. Romeo, Pinki, KC staff - đŸ‘đŸŒ
2. Arjun đŸ‘ŽđŸŒ The biggest disappointment in the show so far. I am finding it hard to decide who I hate more. NES or NEB
3. Geet's new dresses are hideous. Please give her a better ward-robe. Her earlier dresses are better.
4. All the doctors in this hospital are from Manali. 😆

Excellent posts Bri and so true.....we do have all kinds of fans and the presence of the internet makes us more aware of what's going on in the show, actor's lives and all the beind the scene controversies....Audience react based on their own judgement and perception and often those perceptions are wrong. But the fact is in today's time audience have many choices so they are impatient and mostly reactive. But then we also have selective leaks, stories written to bring publicity to the show and stir up emotions among the audience. Nutshell it is a vicious circle!!!

I will be back to add more........
This is about the new article/News making rounds about DD......

I would still not react to this story......coz we don't know what going on in the backend. But baby is an integral part of this story.....it will be sad to see the baby go for whatever reasons. It is for the goodness of the show if the baby stays.......the uniqueness of Geet lies in Maaneet chemistry and the bond audience has formed with the baby. Rest let's see what the PH and dd have to say on this. baby was always part of the show....

One needs to take risk...be in any profession and I think we should not shy away from those challenges. We had Anupam Kher playing an old man in "Saaransh" at the age of 27. Vinod Khanna, Shatrughan Sinha...started their career as villians ....then there is SRK. So the list is endless.....
If DD is indeed apprehensive...I think she should not be becoz playing a young mom will put her in a different league altogether. It is indeed a challenge for her ....She is a wonderful actress and will do complete justice to whatever role she plays...
