This is another late one but kya karein......
She had been doing it since Manali – testing his patience, his limits. Refusing to acknowledge what lay gaping between them, making him want to get her to spew it out by any means necessary. And there she stood now – revealing all, like the earth in the morning sun, but still refusing to accept what she so openly displayed.
Walking into his room, he had felt her presence before he had seen her standing there – almost rooted to the spot, agitatedly twisting away at her dupatta, trying to get a few words out.
He had moved slowly towards her then, making her step back anxiously, looking everywhere but at him; struggling to mumble something before speech deserted her completely.
His frustration at her reticence had made him grab her and pin her against the wall; asking her impatiently what she wanted to say; almost as if commanding her to tell him what he wanted to hear. She had then nervously blurted out about liking Sasha and tried to run away; but, he was having none of that this time – not, when he knew that she was running away, lest she gave in to herself.
He had seen it before and could see it now - how being alone with him, his nearness, his state of undress was affecting her- her nervousness, her darting glances, her halting, misspoken words giving it away so clearly. And, he was not above using it - if that is what it took to get her to confess her feelings for him.
It had irked him even more when she confirmed that she had only come to inform him of Dadi and the others waiting for him downstairs and nothing else. He had been forced to ask her then – she seemed to care about everyone else and their needs, but what about him? What about his wait? And, pat had come the answer– his hair not turned gray yet!! He could not believe what he had heard and wondered for a moment if she really intended to make him wait that long; but had known that his proximity was making her fumble, her mind not co-operating with her senses.
He was now at a point where he could care less about who waited for him, who could walk in on them - his whole being focused on getting her to admit what he knew was in her heart.
He felt so close to breaking - standing near her, breathing her in, losing himself in those brown depths that spoke so much, unwittingly admitted so much - her words giving him excuses to stay away, her eyes giving him reasons to stay behind.
All this time he had held his desires in check, but being this close to her and not taking her into his arms, crushing her to him, was taking an effort that she could not even begin to understand. His own struggle to keep himself in check forced him to ask her, almost pleading with his eyes to let go – give in to those feelings and free him too. Free to love her, hold her close; love her like he wanted to - nay needed to; love her like she needed to be loved, like she deserved to be loved.
Their relationship was at a standstill because he could not, would not move forward until she was with him every step of the way and not lagging behind, dragging her feet. Until when would they keep denying themselves and each other? She had again run away leaving him hanging, again wondering – How long would she make him wait? Make them wait - their love waiting in the wings.
