Maan somehow forced himself all the papita in front of Geet. Geet was awestruck and he also had the sandwich quietly. He thought that he was done, but his sweet Dadi told him that she has asked the cook to make cheese omelet for him and Maan gave a dazed expression. Geet could not help smiling, she knew he was full and the thought of Maan stuffing cheese omelet was too funny. She could not help smiling. Maan looked at her face and when he saw her expression he couldn't hold back his smile. The smile that started in corner of there lips grew to laughter and Maan and Geet laughed from their heart. For a moment every other thing had gone blank and the room ringed with the sound of their laughter.
But the laughter had to cease and when it ceased the reality started sinking in. Maan was upset that he could laugh so easily with her even at this situation. He felt disgusted with himself that he forgot what she has done to her. Geet could read all his expressions and her laughter died inside. Maan cared for her so much even when he misunderstood her. She felt she had to tell the truth right away. Maan got up and decided to walk out of the room before making a fool of him any further. Geet saw him walking away and she called him, " Maan sir please mera bath ek baar tho sun lijiye. Har ek baar aap mera bath sune bina math jayeye. atleast hamare dosti keliye sun lijeye." Maan turned and looked at Geet with anger and hatred, " Thum mere dosth kabhi nahi thi aur thum yeh sachayi bathane ka choota natak mere samne mat karo. Apne adao se muche fasane ka yeh natak bandh karo. Tumhara jota chehra mere anko ke samne aa gaya hein Geet." Geet looked at Maan's face shocked. She could see how much low she has fallen in front of his eyes. She wanted to yell at him for degrading her. But how could she do it. She loved him to the core and even at this condition he was the only one caring for her. She could see his pain along with his anger. She felt so bad to be at this situation. Tears welled up in her eyes.
Maan could see her struggle with her emotions. He wanted to hold her and comfort her and the thought of comforting her even at this condition disgusted him. Why was he doing this to himself? Why can't he throw her out of his life and get done with it. Maan saw Geet crying and his agony and anger hit the roof top. He went to Geet and pulled her from the bed. He started shaking her shoulders and said," bandh karo yeh rona Geet. Mein tumhare anko mein aasoo nahin dekh saktha, I hate you." Geet looked at Maan, she was pained, not because Maan was angry but because Maan was in so deep pain. His pain tortured her. She wanted to comfort him and her hand automatically went to his cheeks. Maan was confused but still angry. Geet said with tear in her eyes,"par mein aapse bahut pyaar karte hoon Maan sir." Maan was shocked to hear that. All the while he wanted to listen from her mouth these words and today she told it in this situation. Maan was happy, but how could she say this now. Did she mean it or is it some other drama of hers. He had mixed emotions, he looked at geet to see if she was going to deny her statement as usual.
Geet was stoned by her own words. She always knew that she loved Maan. But this was the first time she voiced these words fully to him and she could not deny it any long, She was overwhelmed by her own revelation that she lost all her courage to look at Maan. She looked down and felt shattered. Maan saw that Geet did not deny. He saw the struggle she was going through, he wanted to hold her. But this was not the time. He himself was in a mess and he wanted to get out of this place, stay away from her so that he can pull himself together and figure out what has all happened. Maan walked out of the room. Geet did not realize for a long time and when she saw that he was not there she felt she very lonely.
Maan took his car and started driving. Geet's declaration of love ringed in his ears. Why was she doing this to him. How does she know to pull his heart every time. Maan wanted to believe that she was lying, but he read everything in her eyes. She loved him. He knew that. He wanted to be happy, but he knew that he cannot be satisfied with it. Many things have happened in between them and now they have moved so far from each other that geet's declaration of love was not enough for him. For the first time Maan started trying to think why Geet hid the truth. He was desperate to know the truth. He wanted to know who did this to Geet…..his Geet. He stopped the vehicle. He decided to turn the car and go back home and listen to her. But Maan was not yet ready to face her. He did not want to look at her. Maan sat in the car quiet and dazed.
Geet did not know how long she cried and when she stopped crying. A sudden emptiness crawled in her heart. She lost the determination of telling the truth. He hated her. He has told that to her and she did not blame Maan for it. He had all the right to do that. What did she expect? Maan to accept her in this state. These train of thoughts led to others thoughts. Why did she want Maan to protect her. He deserved to have someone in his life whose life is not complicated as hers. Yes today he protected her and avoided the truth to be revealed in front of dadi, but how long can this go on. She was pregnant and her stomach is bound to grow bigger. How long can this be hidden. What will people think. Wont the fingers point at Maan because he was her Mangetar. And suddenly Geet realized something, if people questioned her child's paternity then she knew that Maan will tell everyone that he was the father to protect her. The realization shocked her. She knew Maan will protect her and go to any extent to save her. Everyone will question Maan's character and integrity. She cannot do this to her love. Geet decided that it was time to leave him. She will not complicate his life any long. Maan will never turn away from her. So she has to do this for his good. Geet walked out of the room to the outhouse.
Maan sat lost in the car. His phone ringed suddenly. It was munshiji form Hoshiarpur. Munshiji was talking about some land and Maan was so lost that he did not register any of munshi's words. When Munshiji mentioned the name Geet Handa he came to senses. He asked immediately without realizing," what happened to Geet? "
Munshiji said Maan, "I don't know sir, she left Hoshiapur the day you left. I got a call from the property registration office. They want her signature in some documents to process some papers. They missed it out last time. Now she has left the town and I don't know what to do."
Maan listened to Munshiji patiently. He thought of something and told Munshiji, " Why don't you to go to Handa family and ask about that girl. They will know about her whereabouts."
Munshiji said," Sir it is not possible. They will not know."
Maan asked, "why?"
Munshiji said, " It is a big story sir. The day you left this girl came hurt badly with a talwar in her hand and created a big scene in front of her house."
Maan was getting tensed. He knew he was close to the truth. He had to keep Munshiji talking. He asked ," what happened?"
Munshiji got carried away with gossip and he said, " Handa Pariwar turned out to be big rogues sir. They have got their daughter married to an NRI. Looks like the groom's family was in a rush and the wedding was performed in haste without anybody's knowledge in village. They sent the girl with her pati. The NRI family has cheated her and taken her jewellery and cunningly took signatures in blank documents and left her unconscious in airport and ran away. Poor girl had looked for them everywhere and the police in airport got suspicious and put her in jail. She somehow called her family and they got her back home. They were all shocked that they were cheated and found that the whole wedding was a fake. To save there face in front of villagers they asked the girl to remove all suhag ki nishani. Poor girl had no choice. Sir the land we bought from her was actually sold by the NRI guy. He had made the documents with the blank documents she signed. As if all this was not enough the poor girl got to know she was pregnant and her family asked her to abort the child. When she refused they wanted to kill her. Somehow she escaped and then came in front of the villagers and confronted her family with the truth. The handa family was embarrassed because the truth was revealed. She told them that she will not abort her child and broke her relations with the family and left the house. I was there watching all this sir. Poor girl, so young and so much trouble. But she was very brave. She sent her murderer brother to jail. God knows where she is?"
Maan sat shocked. Never in his dreams he thought Geet went through so much of torture. He was numb. Munshiji was calling for Maan asking if he was in line. Maan disconnected the call saying he will talk later. He started driving back home. All the incidents in hoshiapur and all her words rushed back to his mind. Every thing seemed to make sense. Maan felt extremely guilty for treating her bad all the time. He always said that she was a coward. But he realized how brave she was to take such a strong decision at such tender age. Maan was awed that Geet could still smile and trust people after going through so much, while he has become so bitter. He wanted to apologise , hug her, comfort her, tell her how much he loved her. He was ashamed to face her, but he knew he has to do. She confessed her love with so much of pain and he left her alone and came. He was worried if she was ok.
Maan reached home and rushed to his room calling for Geet. Geet was not there. Maan got scared. He was worried if she had left him. He ran to outhouse. Geet's room was deserted. Her wardrobes empty, her suitcase gone. She had left him and he deserved it. His eyes were filled with tears and he saw a letter and shiny object on the bed. It was her engagement ring. He quickly opened the letter. Geet has written, " sir, I am sorry for all the troubles I have caused you. I can never thank you enough for what you did for me. I don't want to burden you anymore. Jhoota hi sahi apki mangetar bankar rehna mere zindagi ka sabse ache pal the. I can live with your memories for my whole life. Please don't look for me. P.S: I have left the ring. Please tell dadima that I was a characterless woman and ran away. Atleast she will be happy that her grandson escaped"
Maan felt weak. Even at the last moment she was thinking about him. The only woman he loved has left him, because of his fault. He was worried about her. Where will she go at this condition? He knew this was not the moment to become weak. He ran out of the room got into his car and started it. He will not leave the love of her life leave him. He will find her back. Maan started looking for her. He felt that she would have gone to bus stand. He reached the bus stand and started looking into all the buses. He was no where. She had left him. Maan called pinky to ask if she had come there. Pinky said no and asked if everything was ok. Maan was shivering. He was numb. He had deserted Geet when she needed him the most. He stood clueless. Time seemed to have stopped. Just then he saw a girl in salwar getting out of a taxi. It was his geet. Maan ran towards her.
Geet turned and saw Maan standing behind her. She was shocked. He was sweating and he looked very upset. Geet asked, " Kya hua sir? Aap teek ho na? dadi teek hein na? aap ko kya ho gaya?" Maan held Geet's hand, snatched her suitcase and dragged her to his car. Geet was asking what he was doing. He never replied. He pushed her gently into the front seat, kept her luggage at back and started driving. Geet asked Maan what happened? Where he was taking her? He never replied and she sat quietly with tears in her eyes clueless about Maan's actions.
Maan stopped near a temple. He asked geet to get down. Geet asked Maan why he brought her there. Maan asked Geet, " geet tuche apne bache ki kasam, tum muchse pyaar karti ho na?"
Geet replied with tears in her eyes turning away," haan."
Maan said, " tho chalo andar."
He went inside holding her hand. He took the sindoor from the poojari and filled her Maang and said, " aaj se tum meri patni ho aur is bache ka baap mein hoon. Tum muche kabhi bhi akela nehi chodkar jaogi Geet, vada karo muche."
Geet stood shocked. She touched her maang and felt the sindoor to check if allthis was real, he did not know the truth. She said," aap mere bare mein bahut kuch jante nahi ho."
He said," Mein sab jantaan hoon. Tumne koi galti nahin ki Geet. Muche maaf kardo Geet. Meine tumhe bahut sataya. Tum muche chodkar math jao. Mein there bina nahin jee saktha. Geet tum muchko chodkar nahin jaooge na. Bolo geet, Bolo na"
Geet did not say anything. She hugged Maan with tears in her eyes and her tears never stopped. Maan hugged her tight and they stood like that for a long time. Maan tried to apologise but Geet put her finger on his lips. Kuch mat boliye. Mein sab samchti hoon. Maan smiled and said humare beech mein hum hamesha keliye rahega geet. Tum meri hoo sirf meri.
