Part 17
It was Geet's first day as the bari bahu of Khurana House. She was nervous. Maan and Geet had joined Naina and Dadima for breakfast at last. Maan sat at the table quietly while the women chatted away. "God...women talk so much.", he thought.
"So bahu rani, after breakfast I'll show you around the house.", Dadima told Geet.
"Sure Dadima.", Geet replied. She turned to Maan, "Maan, I want to start working from tomorrow."
"Why tomorrow? Take a few days off.", Maan said. He wanted her to rest not work.
"No, I don't need a few days off.", Geet snapped.
This time Naina came into the conversation, "I have an idea! Why don't the both of you take a few weeks off and go on your honeymoon?"
Maan choked on his food and began coughing. After he swallowed his food he said, "Naina you talk too much. We are not going on a honeymoon."
"Yes Naina, I don't think it's a good idea. There's a lot of work to be done at the office. Right Maan?", Geet said nervously. Maan nodded.
"But beta, why not? It would be nice for you and Maan to go away for a little. You've been through a lot and Maan hasn't taken a vacation in years. Both of you need to take a break.", Dadima tried to convince them.
"uhhh'Dadima I'm fine. I don't really need to go anywhere.", Geet replied.
"Okay that's enough. We are not discussing this anymore.", Maan declared.
Geet and Maan both knew that going on a honeymoon would only make their circumstances harder. For Maan it would mean that he would have try twice as hard to stay away from Geet. For Geet it meant that she would have to be with Maan all alone, and when they were alone she didn't always have control over herself.
"Relax Maan. It was just a suggestion.", Dadima said. "But you two can't go to work yet. I still want my bahu home a few more days. Both of you can begin working a week later. That's final and no arguments.", Dadima told strongly.
Maan was about to say something but Naina intervened, "You just got married. What's the rush? Take your time and enjoy yourself.", She said with a smirk. Maan gave her a angry stare.
After they were done with breakfast, Dadima fretted to show Geet around the house. Maan insisted that he should come with them but Dadima told him to find something else to do. He stormed off to the TV room to watch news again. Naina went to run some errands. Dadima showed Geet every room of the house. And every time Geet was awed by each room. Every room had a theme. It was the home everyone dreamed of having. They were in Dadima's room now. Her room was very lavish. The walls were decked with family pictures. Geet went looked at all the picture. She noticed that there were no pictures of Dev. She assumed that they were taken off after the incident with Geet. Then she saw a picture of handsome man that looked a lot like Maan, but had a more innocent face. He was probably in his early twenties. "Dadima, who is this?", Geet asked pointing to the picture.
"That's Vicky, Maan's younger brother. I wish he was here. You would have liked him.", Dadima informed her. Geet smiled.
Then Geet saw a picture of a man in his 50's of 60's, he was very striking. He sat in an arm chair, with his hands on the arm rest. The man was dressed in a crisp black suit. His stance emulated strength and poise. He reminded her of Maan. Geet asked who this man was. "That is Maan's father. I thought that would be easy to recognize since you can see that he has the same attitude as Maan.", Dadima said laughing.
Geet was really curious about Maan's family and asked Dadima a lot of questions. Dadima patiently answered her and told her stories of Maan's childhood. Geet loved to hear them. They had seen all the rooms in the house except one. That was Maan's room. To be frank, that as the one room Geet wanted to see most. Finally they had arrived at his room. Dadima opened the doors to a huge room. Geet walked into see a room that had all white furniture. Dadima told her that white was Maan's favorite color. It was noticeable that everything in there was untouched for quiet some time. Compared to all the other rooms in the house, his room had a very modern design. There was a lot of abstract dcor. Two glass doors led out to a balcony that had an amazing view of the garden below. There was a armoire that reached from one end of the room to the other. This was positively Geet's favorite room of the entire house.
Dadima asked, "Do you like it?"
"Yes'Its very beautiful.", Geet said.
Dadima sat on the huge bed in the room with a frown on her lips. Geet joined her. "Dadima what's wrong?", Geet asked in concern.
"Geet you know that I'm very happy that you are my bahu. The one thing I have always wanted to see was Maan getting married. Now that dream has been fulfilled. But I still have one more dream.", Dadima told her.
"What is it?"
"I want Maan and you to move to the house. I'm getting old and I don't want to stay here alone.", Dadima said with tears in her eyes.
"But Dadima why won't Maan live here?", Geet questioned.
"You see when he kicked Dev out of the house it broke up the entire family. So I got angry and told him to leave as well. Now I know what a mistake I made and that Maan was right in kicking Dev out. You know how stubborn Maan is. He won't move back because he's still mad at me."
Geet smiled, "Don't worry Dadima I have an idea. Your grandson won't be able to say no. He will definitely come home." She wiped away Dadima's tears. With that they went downstairs to put their plan in action.
Dadima and Geet entered the TV room to find Maan watching a gigantic flat screen TV. The room had a large couch and bean bag chairs for people to sit on. It was decked out with a very high tech home theatre system. The room seemed like a small cinema hall.
Maan noticed Geet and was glad to be able to see her again. They took so long to tour the house. "So are you two done with your tour?", Maan asked.
Geet answered, "Yes we are. What have you been doing?"
"Just watching BBC. I also made some phone calls to work to make sure everything runs smoothly."
Then suddenly Geet clutched her stomach and shrieked in pain. Maan instantly ran to her. "Geet what's wrong?", He asked in panic.
"My stomach is just hurting me a little.", Geet said taking deep breaths.
"Okay I'll take you upstairs and call a doctor." He picked her up and carried her to his room and put her down on the bed. Dadima followed in concern.
"Bahu rani, how are you feeling?", She asked.
"I'm feeling a little better now." She saw Maan pick up the phone to call the doctor. "Maan you don't need to call the doctor. Its okay, these kinds of pain are normal. My doctor said it happens."
"No I'm calling the doctor.", he began dialing the number. Geet grabbed the phone from him.
"Trust me I'm fine. The pain is gone now. I get these sharp pains sometimes. You don't have to worry."
"Maan beta, she's right. Don't worry she'll be fine."
Maan didn't expect his grandmother to take Geet's side on this. He clenched his fist in anger. "Dadima what if something is wrong with the baby?"
"Maan, I'm a women I know about these things better than you.", Dadima replied.
"Really, I'm okay.", Geet said.
"But you know what I think you should do Maan? I think you should move back to the house. It would be better for Geet to stay in the house near me and there are a lot of people here to take care of her."
"Yes. I think that's a good idea. I really don't want to stay in the out house alone in my condition.", Geet said innocently.
Maan looked at Geet and Dadima and caught on to their little scheme as soon as they both seemed to agree on this matter. "Geet does your stomach really hurt or are you faking it because Dadima wants me back in the house?"
Geet gasped in horror, "I wouldn't dare to do such a thing."
"Maan how can you accuse us of something like that?", Dadima asked in mock rage.
"I'm not stupid! I can't believe you would use such a cheap trick to try and get what you want! And Geet, I can't believe that took Dadima's side.", Maan bellowed.
"Oh stop! Your being a little too dramatic. Why can't you just move back home? You need to learn to forgive and forget.", Geet said standing up. "Are you seriously going to be mad at Dadima about something that happened months ago?"
"Geet don't talk about what you don't know."
"No Maan your being ridiculous. And I'm serious about being near Dadima. I think it would be better for me to stay here than alone in the out house."
"You won't be alone, I'll be there.", Maan argued back.
"Maan you won't be home all the time. What if something happens? The out house is a long walk to the mansion. I'm just telling you this for the baby's safety.", Geet said knowing she was about to win the battle.
He stood there anger oozing from every pore of his body. But he knew Geet was right. It would be much better if Geet stayed in the mansion. There were more people to take care of her. He tried to calm himself and said, "Fine. We can stay here."
Dadima squealed with happiness. "Maan, I'm so happy.", she said in exuberance. Maan stalked off to the out house. Dadima said to Geet, "Bahu rani, you were right, your idea worked."
"Yes it worked, but I think your grandson in mad at me now.", Geet rendered with a frown.
"Oh don't worry, he'll get over it. Maybe you should go talk to him.", Dadima suggested.
Geet found Maan sulking in the out house. When he saw her walk in he asked, "So are you and Dadima done scheming?"
"Maan, I'm sorry.", Geet whispered.
"I can't believe that you pretended to be in pain. Do you have any idea what I went through when I thought something had happened to you and the baby.", He said grabbing Geet by the shoulders and bringing her close to him. Geet stared at Maan with wide eyes.
"I said I'm sorry.", Geet said again.
Maan realizing that he held her too tight, decided to let her go. "That was a cruel trick. Don't ever do something like that again!", He said dangerously.
Geet sat down on the bed and was a little shaken with Maan's display of anger. Did he have to get angry at everything? When would he ever change? Then again, she already knew the answer, never.
Maan saw the frown on Geet's face and regretted his actions. Why did he always have to loose control of his temper? But Geet had almost given him a heart attack with her little ruse. She didn't get how much she meant to him. If anything happened to her, he would never be able to forgive himself. She had already gone through too much pain because of his brother. He would never let any harm come to her and her doing stupid things didn't help.
"Geet, look I'm just saying that what you and Dadima did wasn't funny. You got me really worried.", Maan said, attempting to fix the situation. Geet turned her back to him. "Come on Geet, I should be the one that's angry not you."
"That's the thing, your always angry.", Geet told him.
"I know. But what you did wasn't right."
"Okay, I admit that I shouldn't have done that. But Maan, Dadima needs you. How long did you expect her to stay all on her own? She loves you so much and just wants you near by. Your all she has. Your so stubborn that you can't even see that."
Maan sighed, "Your right. I should have moved back a long time ago."
"Yes, you should have. At least your moving back now. So all is well." Geet gave him a smile. She was glad that he agreed with her this time.
"Hmmm since when did you become so smart?", Maan said with a smirk.
"Excuse me? I was always smart. Except, your ego was too huge for you to notice.", Geet retorted.
"I do not have a huge ego!"
"Yes you do.", Geet told him and then changed the subject before Maan could argue. "Lets pack your things to move back to the house." Geet said.
Maan and Geet had been married for four days now. They had comfortably moved into the mansion. Maan still could not keep his eyes off of Geet. Even though they were married they still argued like there was no tomorrow. Then they also had their special moments. It didn't matter that they were so different, there was an attraction that bound them together so forcefully that even if they wanted they couldn't free from it. Maan actually felt that if Geet wasn't such a whack job, he wouldn't have loved her as much. It was because she was so different that he loved her. They were like night and day. They both made up for what the other did not have. They complemented each other perfectly.
Every night both of them slept as far a part as they could, however by morning they always ended up having their arms wrapped around each other. Geet woke up one morning to find Maan's arm tightly enclosed around her waist. His body was extremely close to hers. She could feel the breathing movements of his chest against her back. She felt a tingling in the pit of her stomach and her pulse quickened. Her emotions confused her. What baffled her more was that she didn't have a problem with waking up in Maan's arm like this. In fact, it felt nice. She slowly wriggled out of his embrace so she didn't wake him. He looked so peaceful when he slept. His usual stone cold expression was no longer visible, but a tranquil expression took its place. If only he was this peaceful when he was awake. Truth be told, Geet didn't really mind Maan's anger and cold expression anymore. When he was angry, he actually looked sexy' Oh god what in the world was happening to her?
That morning they prepared to go shopping with Dadima. Every morning Geet saw Maan all sweaty and shirtless from his workouts. It didn't help her situation when she saw him like this. She told Pinky about it. Pinky laughed it off and told her to just enjoy it. She also said that every girl would love to be in her place. It was no use talking to Pinky. She had to find a solution to her problem on her own and soon. Except Geet didn't know that after that day she wouldn't think of it as a problem anymore.
Next Part: Mr. and Mrs. Khurana out shopping with Dadima. Will Geet accept her feelings for Maan?
