'I'm single by choice and loving it'
Vipul Gupta on love, life and keeping out of saas-bahu soaps!

It was Mumbai calling for Vipul Gupta, better known as Aditya of India Calling, when the actor packed bag and baggage to move here from Delhi three years ago. Today, Vipul's managed to get himself his own house in Lokhandwala and he's pretty kicked about it. "God has been really kind. But now I'm realising how difficult it is to maintain a house!" he laughs. It's been a good three years with Vipul making his mark felt in serials like K Street Pali Hill and India Calling. And now, the actor will be seen in SAB TV's 4, a story about friendship between four friends.
"I play a character called Rakesh Sharma who wants to be a musician," he informs about his role. And even though 4 is not a saas-bahu show, Vipul is sure that it will be successful. "Look at shows like Remix and India Calling; they both were targeted at the youth and they did so well. I won't deny that family dramas get the highest TRPs, but there's certainly a niche audience, which is also substantial, that wants to see something different and we cannot ignore them," he points out. Speaking of saas-bahu soaps shows, would he like to be part of them? "I wouldn't even play the sasur!" he jokes and on a serious note adds, "It's not that I've not been approached, but the reason I took up the shows was because they were different. Luckily, there were no generation leaps or marriages in them," he says with a smile.
At the moment though, it's only 4 for Vipul. "I always make sure that I have just one show on air at one time. I shoot for around 20 days in a month and keep the rest of the days for shooting commercials and relaxing," he says. He's also glad that he's again working with Manasi Parekh, his co-star in India Calling. "We both share a healthy working relationship where we both respect each other," he says.
And now that his work is settled and he's got a house, is the next step marriage? "Oh no!" he laughs, "I don't know actually. At the moment, I'm single by choice and enjoying this phase." But that doesn't mean you can't change your mind, right Vipul?
