This thread is a companion to my Rajmahal in the Avatar/Signature forum, in which I will henceforth store all my various one-shots and short stories I write in the mytho genre.

If you'd like to request an OS/SS, you may do so when I open my shop. Otherwise, I will not be taking requests as writing takes up a lot of time.

These stories are written based on the ancient puranas of our culture, but I will take some creative liberty (within limits) in order to show different perspectives and gain insight into certain events/characters. If ever at all you feel I've crossed my limits and my writing has become offensive, please do let me know and we can discuss it. If I find that you are right, I will definitely change what I wrote. Otherwise, discussing various viewpoints is also interesting.

Please do leave your feedback. Constructive criticism is very much welcome!

His Dear Ones

Lord Rama had just finished his prayers for the morning, and he smiled in contentment as the loveliness of Mother Nature surrounded him on all sides. Panchavati was ethereal, and every moment spent in that enchanting part of the Dandakaranya was idyllic. Named after the five banyan trees in front of which Lakshmana had built a cozy little thatched hut for them, Panchavati was home to an abundance of trees and flower bushes, as well as many different forest animals. Adorable little rabbits and squirrels came frolicking near the hut in search of seeds and berries, and deer grazed fearlessly at the banks of the Godavari river, feeling at peace with the three forest dwellers who had made their home there for the past few years.

The birds came flying to Sita as little ones come running to their Mother, and she fed them lovingly with seeds while giggling at their antics.

Upon her request, Lakshmana had built a handsome birdhouse which housed the birds during storms, and Sita always made sure there was plenty of seeds and water in it at all times.

'Speaking of Sita and Lakshmana,' thought Rama with a chuckle, 'It is awfully quiet around here. What mischief have they become embroiled in now?'

He went in search of them, feeling light at heart. The past 13 years had been idyllic, and only one more year remained before they could be united with their family. As eager as he was to see his three Mothers, Bharata, Shatrughna, and Sita's three sisters, Rama could not regret the exile which had given him the opportunity to gain so much knowledge from the various divine Sages who resided in the Southern forests. Having spent years at their knee, unearthing the secrets of the shastras unknown to all but a few, Rama felt he had gained priceless wisdom and felt grateful yet again towards his Chhoti Mata Kaikeyi, who many blamed for his exile but whom he secretly thanked for having given him this opportunity. He looked forward to returning to Ayodhya in one more year, but he could not regret even one moment of his exile. It had been spent fruitfully, and he knew the following year too would serve its purpose. He would get the opportunity to serve the sages and protect them from the unrighteous demons of the Dandakaranya, whom he had vowed to eradicate to punish them for their sins.

Rama did not find Sita and Lakshmana by the Godavari river, and neither were they in the cottage.

'They must be in the garden,' Rama thought affectionately, his suppositions confirmed a moment later when he heard Sita's gentle giggles and Lakshmana's raucous laughter coming from that direction.

Sita's garden was her pride and joy, and Lakshmana was often her willing helper, joyfully getting dirty to make clay pots and shoveling dirt for her. That day, they seemed to be planting a new species of white flowers Sita had found during one of their evening strolls into the forests. At her request, Ram had collected some clippings for her and Lakshmana was now helping Sita plant them in the rich soil.

To Rama, it seemed Lakshmana was getting distracted with the strong fragrance of the flower, which he kept sniffing over and over. Sita tried to warn him.

"Careful, Lakshman bhaiyya! That flower can make you - "

"ACHOO!"

" - sneeze."

Sita winced as the loud sound of Lakshmana's sneeze frightened away several nearby birds which took flight instantly, but a moment later she began laughing as Lakshmana looked bashfully at her, sniffling to clear the pollen from his nose.

"Whatever are you two doing?" Rama asked with brows raised and a smile playing on his lips. Sita's eyes brightened at his presence, and Lakshaman bowed respectfully.

"Raghunath, look how beautiful the flowers look," Sita pointed out her newest addition with pride. "They smell so sweet!"

"Indeed, though I think Lakhan's nose may not be able to take any more abuse for a while," Rama said with a straight face and droll tone, though anyone who knew him would be able to tell he was restraining his own laughter at their antics.

Lakshmana merely sniffled again in response, though he chuckled at his brother's expression.

"Let's wash up, Saumitra. I think we both deserve some kheer for our hard work, don't you?" Sita brushed her hands against her palloo and glanced at her husband playfully. "You too Raghunath, for bringing me the flower clippings."

"After you, my dear lady," Rama said gallantly, holding out his hand. Sita grasped it with twinkling eyes, amused at her Lord's antics.

"And you too, Lakshmana," Rama held out his other hand to his younger brother, who gazed at his bhaiyya and bhabhi lovingly.

Lakshmana bounded forward and grasped his brother's hand with a grin, and the three of them made their way back to the cottage.

I need to do some research into Sesha Ksheera and then it'll take me time to write as I want to portray those characters properly, so it'll take some time. 😳 Moreover, I have this banner in mind for which collecting the photos will take time, lol.
