Hmm karwachauth was not meant to be filmy it's a very holy ritual which married women perform for there husbands and I m so proud to say that ladies in my family fast after there husband passes away saying that it's also for kids so according to me it's the feeling that matters
And yes due to Bollywood and TV commercialisation of it has being done which I don't like
I can't inderstand how come ur pics of breaking the fast and doing Pooja can even go to news channels
Unless you urself don't send it or invite them to take pics

End line is they have made everything public for publicity and fame
Period.. 😕

I hope to make a couple sweets and namkeen over the weekend
Thankfully its a Sat this year

I need new sweet ideas
Any quick and easy recipes anyone?

I botched a besan and condensed milk recipe earlier in the evening today.

Besan is so tricky you never know when it has actually FULLY toasted
It always ends up tasting kacha for me unless I am making mysore pak

Ok Nisha. I tried a small batch of khajoor pak squares last wk. Trial .
Quick and easy. Came out decent for first try.so I'm making this my Diwali sweet.

One full box of dates seedless.
One and half tbsp ghee
One handful pistachio chopped
One handful almonds sliced

Chop the dates mushy. Microvave for just 3 mins. Take it out , mix the ghee, pista and badam and the dates well . Microwave for another couple mins. Bas. The date hardens if it's cooked for more than 5 mins.

Let it cool. Spread it flat in a cling wrap. Roll it flat with your hand or a rolling pin and make it a square blick. Then shape them in to pieces the way you want. I just gave it a coat of cocunut powder on one side. . The other side looks colorful with the nuts sticking out.

15-20 mins max total process. The sweetness is just the natural sweetness of dates. The other sweet
I'll do cocunut barfi .

I haven't planned anything much this year. Feeling a bit exhausted this wk too. Hv ordered online a couple of suits , one palazzo and one anarkali for myself and daughter. I have not planned anything fir savoury yet.

See and Know .

Just noticed a thing. I don't know if it's the iyer men , older gen who do this or other men too.
Like when you open the door and immediately call out your wife like how Mr. iyer did . 😆 . What will happen to Mr. iyer if Madhoo isn't there around him !!!! 😆 . Not just dude at the door which raises Mr. Iyer's Bp, even if it was the dhobhiwala at the door, he would be still yelling out Madhoo I think !!

Personally my father still does the same. Any one at the door he answers, immediately calls out my mother. He will have my mother snapping at times at him saying such a simple thing to take care of and yet you will have to call me.

Fasting & Feet

Sid rolled over, and screamed loudly
II was braiding her hair in the bathroom, she had just showered and draped a pinkish saree
She turned to peek, walking out of the master bath dressing room

He flailed his arms and legs and rotated on the giant master bed like a wheel

Ved lay there, too fat to move

Nivi ran up to the bed "Jo jo jo jo" she cooed patting Sid's back, he screamed harder trying to roll back on to his belly

She turned to check if any one was looking and heaved and sighed and pulled his hand from under his chest

Sid smiled, teary eyed

She wiped his face with a wash cloth

"Amma kitta poreya?" (u want to go to Amma?) she cooed

R&B walked in from the balcony, and leaned on the door jamb and grinned

"Hey sugar" he cooed to his daughter

"Can I lift him?" she asked politely

"Try" he shrugged

She grabbed an arm and pulled

"Ayyoyo" II panicked running into the room

R&B waved at her

She paused

Nivi finally got him to sit up reaching for him past the bed rails and dragged him

Ved assumed he was getting a godeee too and giggled doing quick cycling movements with his fat legs

Nivi pulled him off the bed and almost fell on her back both R&B and II running up to steady her

"Amma he rolled over again" Nivi said delighted

She was 5 and cute as a button

"I saw that raja" II cooed kissing Sid on his head

He moaned realizing it was his milk factory's scent

"Are we going to Rohini?" Nivi asked

"No da... amma has to pray" she whispered

R&B lifted Ved up... "U shud make it quick and come back up and take a nap" he said

She yawned

They both were just taking naps the last 6 months... just naps
There was no 2 or 3 hours of sleep

Nivi's school was in session she needed to be picked up and dropped off, lunch packed, homework completed
After school activities, and plays and recitals and then TWO FAT BOYS

They all went down II touched Ranjan's feet for blessing

He whimpered and teared up taking the baby from her

"Dadu, can we go to Rohini?" she asked

"Bache aaj shammi Bua ghar jaayenge, othey jai jai karange fair Rohini" he cooed

"Thatha bought a new set of books" she said

R&B handed Ved to him too

II headed to the pooja room, hit the lights, lit the lamps and began to hum

Mahavir had gotten up early to fix her meal

Amma Appa had sent her the blessings with the gifts

Sam had sent her the customary teasing text

She fasted religiously

II didnt this year
She had eated at 4, at 5 and at 7...

Her shoulders ached... she wanted a good night's sleep

She would observe many young girls at KMPG fast for their would-be's and hubby and ask them all sorts of questions and tempt them to cheat by nibbling candy during lunch hour

There was no way she would ever marry a Punjabi

NO
APPA WOULD JUMP OFF SOUTH BLOCK
YEP
CANT HAPPEN

OH BUT IT DID

She sat down to chant for a bit
Nivi came running and sat by her
"Amma can we go to Sam Athai's house for mehandi?" she said showing her palms

"Sure kanna.. Amma cant get it you can" she nodded

"Ammaaa..." Nivi cooed

II cuddled her quietly

She was just adorable

Long curly hair, oval face like Savvy's skinny and tall

Mostly wore jeans like her Dad
Sometimes pretty dresses... like this morning
She had a chest of drawer full of fake trinkets

R&B was found screwing her earring on or hooking up her pendants

Or finding matching bangles...

she was all girlie

II heard Sid crying again

She got up and walked to the kitchen to bring the tray of offering

She set it down at the mandir ... leaving the lights on,

Went back to the front yard, it was cold and foggy this November morning

"Dad... we can go to Chachu's after Sam's" II whispered

Ranjan turned he was holding Ved

R&B had taken Sid upstairs to rock him to sleep

"Na puttar... kisi ka mood kharab nahi na karna hai aaj ke roj... na gudiya" he said somberly

II felt terrible

None of his kids cared for Chachu... Ranjan gave up many a occasion to parade his grandkids at his brother's

Chachu was pissed, Ranjan had scored a double... he had 1 granddaughter and two grandsons... Chachu had 7 between the 4 sons... yet

"Main aur aap jaayenge" II suggested

"Bache bhi?" he asked eagerly

She didnt have permission from R&B to take the kids

"Main baat karti hoon" she promised

She handed him kheer...

"Khush reh beta... ghar ka naqsha badal diya toone to" he smiled his eyes glistening
She nodded swalowing "thanks Dad"

"Do do sher" he smiled and chuckled

"aur ek sherni" she smiled

"She is an angel" Ranjan cooed

II nodded

"Amma can I go to Lasyaka's house in the morning?" Nivi shouted from the first floor balcony

"Sure kanna" Ii smiled

She went up

R&B handed her Sid... he was still crying

II sat down to nurse...

"Where is my gift?" she smiled

"U didnt fast" he said with a straight face

RAKSHASAN!!!
ARGHHH

"Paavi" she cursed

"I am not supposed to be cursed at" he reminded gently flicking a lock behind her ear

"Its 2021... not 1921" she cursed leaning back

"I can see that... no more feet washing then?" he chuckled

"And everyone worried maaplai was very quiet...(SIL) they must have been smoking something" II said cynically

"II" he whispered and kissed her cheek

"U have 10 hours before we go to sam's Tan probably gave her a new car or a villa in maldives" Ii said

"Like I said no feet washing no chanting no villa" he grinned

"I shud leave u with ur progeny and take off for 6 months... seriyana punishment (right)" II chuckled

"He rolled over first" R&B smiled fondling Sid's curls

"Does that mean he will leave home first?" Ii asked panicking

"I am ready for a full night's sleep if thats true" he said mercilessly

"Paavi, u will have to wait 17.5 years" she reminded

She nursed quietly he snoozed

"Umm... do u mind if Dad and I take the kids to Chachu's?" she asked

"Yeah.. I do" he said bluntly his eyes continuing to be closed

I would love to have R &B for a father, but not for a son!

I'm not too sure in my mind if keeping children away from their cousins because of rivalry amongst the adults should be endorsed or not . This is tricky as children emulate what we feed. Assuming chachu is still involved in the business and his son's too , nursing rivalries on the personal and professional front and the defiance of the adult behavior it kind of permeates in to the heart of children since their childhood setting unhealthy trends. Though it's understandable why we adults do it. We tend to take the safer route to keep ourselves away from trouble.

Since the boys are nursing , Nivi could atleast go ..: sometimes you have to do things that your heart might not be in 100 percent just by showing that you have a bigger heart to look outside of just our own self or our own personal peeve points from a general amicability POV.

Mine is a joint family not literally but a close knit one so ups and down are bound to happen and arguments also, misunderstandings also but wht I hav learnt is that we should not involve kids in the matters of adults
But here even cousins are also not in good terms
Chachu hav never even liked II also
They hav never left any chance to taunt her or make her feel low
How can Ranjan should be the one to take a step ahead and try to patch up or try to ease the surroundings
