Chapter 15
Neil watched as Khushi entered the main hall and then took the stairs straight to her room. His man had informed him her minute details when she had driven like bat out of hell. He was scared for her safety but he was assured in the knowledge that God forbid if something happened his man Dave was efficient enough to take control of the situation until he reached.
Sighing he fell back on the couch he was sitting in the lounge, shuddering a little. As much as he tried to block the memory but time like this he could not help the memories of how they found Khushi in that night.
Feona was sitting with her head rested on her husband's shoulder, her eyes moist. Smith was trying hard to keep a lead to his overwhelming emotions. His wife needed him to be strong. But how come a father act strongly coming from her daughter's funeral. Their one and only daughter, Rebecca.
She was their sunshine, his brother's favourite teddy. All her life she was the centre of their universe. So when she had told them that she had fallen in love and expressed her wish to marry her love, like any other protective family they had met the boy and had done all the required investigation to pass the boy as an eligible suitor for their darling.
She seemed happy after marriage. Too happy actually and they were content. Their daughter had found everything parents could wish, love.
Neil sat in the passenger seat stoically. From the rearview mirror, he could see his parents battling their emotions with each other's support but he missed his support his Becca. She was elder to him but she was his best friend and well wisher. She was his pillar that he leant on to when life got too hectic. He did not fall in love. He had his flings but never a girl had touched his heart yet he never felt the need because his sister made up for the emotional support he needed to go on with life.
It was him who was most affected when she got married. Still, he was happy in her happiness. He was content that his sister found love. Anyways she lived a few blocks away and he could meet her whenever he wanted.
But after a year his brother-in-law relocated in India. His family lived here and he wanted to live with them.
Smith family could not object and Neil too could not protest as Becca told him that she always wanted to live in a joint family. She thought it will be fun.
Ananth's, his brother-in-law, family assured them that they will take care and help Becca to settle in India. They will make sure that she did not miss them too much and they believed them.
The biggest f**king mistake of their life.
Now when they had lost her they could only curse themselves that why did not they come to meet her a little earlier or why did not they detect the sad tone in her voice a little earlier?
Suddenly their car came to a grinding halt. All of them jerked out of their thoughts.
What on earth? Smith muttered as he saved both of their head to crash in the driver seat.
Neil saved him by holding the dashboard and then yelled What The Fu.." looking daggers in the driver's direction but finding the poor man's eyes glued to something ahead on the road Neil followed the direction and found a figure lying a few feet away on the road.
Hurriedly he got down of the car, thinking someone might have hit somebody and ran off the scene. He hoped the person was still alive and he could save him. He heard his parents and the driver come out of the car too.
As he neared he realised it was not a man but a girl.
He reached her in long strides. For a moment he was stunned to see the amount of blood she had already lost. Nobody could tell what colour of clothing she had worn because now it all seemed red and in a close look he could see her cloth was torn in different places and he was clever enough to understand that it wasn't torn from a fall or accident. Somebody had tried to molest her but how far they had succeeded that would only be understood when they took her to a hospital and if she survived. Because the mystery of so much blood was yet to solve. But one thing he was sure she did not meet any road accident
He heard his mother gasp as she saw the figure. Not good. She was already so much trouble. His father shed his blazer and covered the girl. There was an unspoken message passed between the men standing there. The driver went back to take the driver seat while Neil picked up the girl and strode to the car. The blood smearing on his white attire but he least cared. All he was aware in that situation was the little rise and fall of her chest that indicated she was still alive. Neil sat with the girl in the rear seat while his parents boarded the car fast and they drove towards the nearest hospital as fast as they could. All their concentration was now shifted from Rebecca to the girl they wanted to save.
Neil gaze had been shifting from her lightly dusty but beautiful face to her chest time again just to assure that her eyes flicking behind her lids once in a while and she was breathing even though barely.
He could not save Rebecca but he wanted to save this girl.

"Sir your coffee" their butler's voice broke him out of his haunting memories and he was thankful.
Nodding he took the mug from him and from the corner of his eyes he saw Khushi coming changed in her home clothes freshly showered.
He smiled brightly at her which she reciprocated equally. She thanked Brijesh, their butler, for the tea he readily provided to her and flopped down the seat beside him.
Neil smiled fondly as he yet again realised that the girl that he tried to save that day actually saved him from drowning into his personal hell of guilt that day and gave him something to look forward.

Arnav walked in his office with a purpose in his strides. He needed to find a way to stop Khushi. He could not let her ruin what he had ruined himself for. She was right in wanting to do just that but he could not wash his hands from his duty that was ingrained in him so thoroughly that it flowed in his vein like blood. He would not be Arnav Singh Raizada if he was not driven by his duties to his family and company. Because that was all he was, ASR, a shell of a man, living for something that no more interested him but that's all he had to live for or else he might just put a bullet through his head and be done with living in hell every day.
As tempting as it was to die and be done with but he knew for a fact that would be too easy and if there was higher power then he had a lot to go through before he could actually be dead. Like facing the wrath of a woman he had wronged in so many ways that he cringes every time when he saw his face in the mirror.
Sir, Aman's voice broke through his dark thoughts and he looked up expectantly to his right-hand man.
"After a lot of persuasion Shay Johnson, Miss Smith's PA has agreed to make a small space in Miss' Smith's calendar day after tomorrow." Aman diligently ignored how his boss hissed both times Miss Gupta when he addressed Khushi as Miss Smith and continued, "You are requested to visit her in her office around 11 in the morning and on time as she has another engagement at 11.30. So I have taken the privilege of clearing your schedule for an hour starting from 10.45 day after tomorrow morning to accommodate this meeting and the travel time to and fro."
Arnav nodded his appreciation and acknowledgement to his PA slash personal manager distractedly. Taking it as his cue Aman left the room smirking to himself.
It was a deliberate attempt on his part to remind Arnav that Khushi was out of his bound and he could not dominate or persuade that girl anymore because he was Arnav Singh Raizada.
Yes, he liked that girl. Not romantically off course. He had a steady girlfriend of five years living with him and he loved her too much to let his eyes wander to any other girl and feared equally because she would have him killed if she found out that he had so much had looked at any other woman than her.
He liked Khushi for her lively nature and never die spirit. He liked her for taming the dragon of a boss that breathed fire down his neck all the time. Making his life a little easy. He liked her berceuse she was genuine human being and he abhorred the fact that how his devil of a boss ruined everything that defined her.
So even he was loyal to his boss and would do what he demanded he would not leave a chance fewer as they may,to remind and warn Arnav Singh Raizada that it was all his fault.

"Hello Boss yes I saw her leave the bungalow. But she has bodyguards following her in another car.
...
Yes, Boss, we can distract them for some time.
...
Okay, boss, we will try to keep them occupied enough for your rendezvous.
...
Sure boss.

Devyani made her way towards her granddaughter's room. She knew she would find the other two females of the house there only. Because that's all they had been doing since Arnav revealed Khushi's comeback. Hovering over Anjali like mother hens. Only she wished if they could be the good kind, who protected and tutored their chic to face life. Here they were only making her more vulnerable. She was frustrated. She had tried every method but none of them understands. Anjali, on the other hand, was a different story altogether. She had succumbed to her insecurities like her mother with the fueling and backing of her family and brother now she feared the damage was irrevocable. Sighing she was about to push the door when she heard the conversation going in the room and for the first time Devyani felt her blood boil.
"That lowlife gold digging woman why can't she leave us alone. I thought she was gone for good but now again she back to create havoc in our life. Even God refuses to share any space in his heaven with her. How I wish she is dead already"
Subhadra spewed venom. Which was not surprising but what shocked Devyani was the next voice, Anjali.
"I wish same Dadi. She was after my brother and then my husband. I wonder how many men she needs in her life. Wasn't my brother capable enough to take care of all her needs that she needed get engaged to my husband as well? My Shyamji had to face our entire wrath and struggle hard through her web of lies; even then Chotey never forgave him till date. And it's all her fault. Why she can't be out of our life for good." She wailed.
"Hush, Hush my child," it was Monorama, "Everything will be all right. Chotey will make everything better."
At that moment Devyani lost all her good intention to talk sense to those women who refused see sense and all she did was turn and left. They were delusional. They deserved every bit of what was about to befall ion them. God they don't have any idea what is about to hit them and this time even Arnav cannot save them from the storm that is about hit this family. A broken and defeated man can only withstand so much.' And Devyani was sure that this time no mercy will be shown because simply they did not deserve any.

It was like deja vu for Khushi as she saw the sedan tailing her. Yet she knew it was not Arnav?
How she knew?
For one, the sedan looked human friendly than the monstrous SUVs and sports cars that Arnav drove.
Second, It missed ASR tag.
Third, the driver in the car lacked the fierceness of ASR.
Fourth, she knew for a fact that Neil had her followed by the bodyguards but they were nowhere in sight now which can only happened either she had asked them to back off or they had been kept away. So when the former option did not happen she guessed that the later had most defiantly happened, which led her to her next theory that whoever this person following her is one sneaky bas***d, a trait Arnav Singh Raizada could never acquire and Shyam Monohar Jha had mustard flawlessly as far as she knew.
And like a lightning then it dawned on her...
Uh... so the sly is already on the move.
As Khushi came to her deduction that who it could be after her a sinister smile appeared on her face while she dialed Neil.
Too bad for you Shaymji you underestimated Khushi Gupta SMITH and now I am going to have a little fun on your account.
