Chapter 1
I had a beautiful dream last night. Everything had changed in my life. I was not the usual me. Can it be possible?
"I am getting late, wake up you sleeping head. We are already late for our class" says Avantika.
I open my eyes and feel the warmth of the sunlight. I see Avantika getting ready in a haste. The whole room is messed up. Pile of clothes collected on the floor, hair brush, make up materials all messed up by my side on the bed.
Suddenly I realize I was dreaming. Was it for the first time I was dreaming something like that? May be not. Before I could think further, Avantika interruptes my rows of thoughts. "Adhishree Sanyal if you are really not looking forward to Saransh's interrogation session, you must make haste." How could I forget how punctual Saransh himself is?
I get up and in no time I am in my bathroom, brushing, cleansing my teeth. I take my shower, that feeling of water cascading down my body is mesmerizing. I am now in my white top with blue flowers embedded on it and a blue skirt falling from my waist to the end of my leg. I take my hair brush, brushing my hair. Suddenly it feels like, this is not the first time I am feeling and doing everything perfectly like this. But when did I do it before? Can some day or something can repeat itself so perfectly? Keeping aside my questioning thoughts I keep the brush back on the dressing table. Grabbing my white bag and my white stole I hurry down.
Avantika is waiting for me down stairs, dressed up in a light maroon top and blue jeans, hair neatly tied up. It brings a smile on my face whenever I see my best friend, though straight forward but very attentive, not hurting anyone's feelings.
"Saransh has called me twice,we are already late, come lets get running before we miss our first lecture" saying this she holds of my hand and pulls me out of the door, locking it behind me.
I am here for four months now. My family lives in Calcutta and I am in Delhi for studying and work. Belonging to a Bengali family, I have a younger brother and a younger sister,my father, my mother in my family. Even though I love my family a lot but I have to live here in this home which belongs to Avantika's. Even though she is from Mumbai herself but she has a home here. A vacant home which we both share.
The very first time when I stepped on Delhi railway station, crowded as ever. People calling each other, searching their relatives, the coolies carrying the luggage as easily as its a feather they are carrying. From a corner came the sound of a baby crying, resting his head on his mother's shoulder, the vendors calling out to drag the attention of the customers. And me, pushing the people aside to find my way to exit, leaving behind this over crowded railway station.
Reaching the exit of the railway station and finding the entry to the busiest city of the country, I was standing at the corner of the road, waiting for a taxi. And as a taxi came to a halt and I was about to ask him to escort me to the hostel which was in Pitampura, a girl, having an attractive face, wearing a yellow top and a white jeans, interrupted me and to my surprise she asked the taxi driver to take her to the same destination as was of mine. Knowing that we both were having same destination we both came to an agreement of going together as we both were in haste, and we didn't want our aperture time to be late.
As it was our first day,we were asked to assemble on a ground outside the home, as the owner wanted to talk to us before leaving for his/her work.I didn't know by then, whether it would be a female owner or a male.
During our journey from the railway station to our destination,we both introduced ourselves to each other. Since, the very first meeting, we felt comfortable in each other's company. We reached our new home. It was a beautiful place, a three storey building connected through stairs. The first floor was of the owner, the second floor belonged to us and the third, I didn't know.
We got inside the ground floor, for getting into the other floors, it was necessary for us to get into the ground floor. As I entered inside I found the hall very beautiful, colored in a combination of red and white. The fragrance was intoxicating. To my left was the owners' bedroom. On to my right was the sitting area. Sitting area was fully air-conditioned.Then we had to climb the stairs which took us to our room. On the very first look only, I fell in love with my room. It was dark green in color, fully air-conditioned. There was a bed at the center, with white bed sheet neatly done. Two pillows, one for each, again white in color. It was a soothing feeling, being in such a room. We were tired so we both fell on the attractive bed as soon as we entered our room. As I was lying on the bed, my eyes closed, opened suddenly as I remembered that we were asked to assemble.
Without even bothering to change our dresses before the meeting we both went where we were asked to assemble. We were given instructions about our daily routine. We started living there but soon we discovered that following so many instructions was a bit difficult for us to deal with.We spent around two weeks there following the rules. After two weeks I think it was Saturday when Avantika came and said "Adhishree I have found a new home for both of us. It's beautiful I hope you'll love it". I agreed! We both got ready and talked to the owner of our leaving and we left.
~*~*~*~*
We passed about two or three streets and turned left, crossing a beautiful park where aged people were sitting on the bench and chatting, children were playing, a red ball came rolling in front of me I picked it up and threw it back to the kid and he was giggling. That sound of his giggle was so melodious. I stood there for sometime, admiring the view of the park and cherishing his giggle. Avantika asked me to walk quickly, so giving a smile to the baby I walked and soon I was on Avantika's left side. Then we turned to our right and there was a big house welcoming us. It was beautiful. The place was very green, the birds chirruping, everything was just perfect. I stood there staring at the beautiful house that looks like a palace. Noticing every brick, every corner.Suddenly Avantika was inside this palace and she called me inside. A big smile stretching on her face as she was welcoming me here which is my home today. As I entered I found myself liking the place. It was a great place, the interior was perfect, again the same red-white shade its very soothing up here. The white curtains hanging on the six windows, three on left wall and three on the right looked beautiful and soothing. The aroma was of some flower may be a mixture of a few. All the worries and tension will vanish as soon as you enter here as if its a heaven on earth. Moving straight and on the left is our room. As I opened the door I found my room blue in color,a bed at the center with a blue bed sheet. But soon Avantika changed the bed sheet and laid a white bed sheet instead, as she knew my taste, my love for white. That was nice of her.I arranged my dresses in my closet and later she arranged hers in her closet. Unpacking and arranging absorbed our whole day. We didn't even have our lunch properly, just a mouthful of chips we had. Secondly I didn't even know if we have something to cook or to eat raw.I searched my bag and found two packets of biscuits, a packet of noodles, few fresh fruits.
I went to the kitchen, it's of cream color, the white tiles on the walls looked beautiful. I stepped on the kitchen floor, the white tiles beneath my feet were slippery. Cupboards properly polished with brown color. I kept the eatables on the kitchen slab again of brown color. I unpacked the packets of biscuits and put it in the biscuit container. Placed few biscuits on a plate, cut two apples and placed them on another plate, the plates which I very delicately brought out from my bag and placed it on the kitchen slab. I took the plates and placed them in front of Avantika and we sat on the white couch, being placed on the drawing room. After having them,we decided to go for shopping to fetch vegetables and other necessities.
It was already eight in the evening when we returned from our shopping. We arranged the things we bought. I cooked the dinner, Avantika cleaned the place where we have our dinner. We were already starving and were tired after a hectic day so we enjoyed our dinner a lot. After having our dinner, as we were completely exhausted, we went to sleep. Changing my dress and wearing my red night dress,I went and launched myself on the bed. I very lazily put the blanket on me and closed my eyes. I didn't even know when Avantika came and slept beside me.
The next morning I woke up, I saw Avantika sleeping beside me wearing her white night dress having some pink prints on it. Still laying on my bed lazily,I turned my face towards her and smiled seeing her sleeping soundly. After sometime I left my bed and walked towards the bathroom. Soon I got ready for my college. As I came out of the bathroom I found Avantika sitting on the dinning table. I hugged her from behind and wished her good morning. Giving me a quick hug as she stood, she headed towards the bathroom.
Soon after getting ready,we left for our college. We used bus to reach college. It took us twenty minutes to reach. By the end of the day I found many new friends.
There was a girl named Sadhna in my college to whom I hadn't talked by then, but I felt I knew her may be like I have seen her somewhere before. I found her in my class, she was my classmate. But I did't know why some how I wasn't surprised to find her sharing my class, as if I knew her, as if I had any strong relation with her. She stood out to be different from others. I noticed her staring at me quite a lot.I couldn't understand why was she staring me again and again.
Our first class was of French, which went quite well. When the class ended I didn't feel like getting up. As I had my next class free I remained sitting there. I went on a deep thought, not specifically about anything.
Saransh's sudden knock on the classroom door broke the chain of my thoughts and dragged me to the present.I found this guy, quite fun-loving, energetic, standing by the entrance of the class, "Hey do you know where is Arnav?" he asked. "I don't know where he is!" I said, apologetically.
And I got a very friendly reply "okay no problem".
Somewhere deep inside me I wanted him to leave even though I didn't have any hard feeling for him. But I was already preoccupied with my thoughts. But calming myself down I invited him to sit beside me. He wholeheartedly accepted my invitation.
We discussed about our subjects and studies. Suddenly he asked me "do you have any particular dream which you want to achieve?" And the word 'DREAM' is like a 'DRACULA' for me now. A dream? Do I have one? What now I can remember is just confused dreams I am facing now a days. Don't even know if they are even dreams or what? Well coming back to reality "I don't have any particular dream right now." I managed to answer as normally as was possible. "Hmmm... You must dream. One must have aim." His each word haunts me even today!
"YOU MUST DREAM". What? No! No more please. What if I see something negative? How am I going to deal with it? "Hey! I'll have to rush. I'll have to find Arnav. We'll meet soon. Take care" he said."Bye" I tried to bring a smile on my face. But I think my smile didn't touch my eyes.
Again my mind crowds with my dreams. The mystery behind my dream. 'Who is that whom I see in my dreams? She is like me, but not me! I dream about a girl who is like me, but not me. Is it possible? Is it true that we can find someone exactly like us as if we are looking ourselves on a mirror? Gosh... am I going mad?'
But no, its no one else but me, because I saw few more events like I knew whom am I gonna meet when I first time entered my college. 'Why can't I dream a normal dream?' I thought.
Suddenly my heart skips a beat. And as I turn I find this beautiful, mesmerizing man standing in front of me. 'No wait am I dreaming again? No its not a dream he is here, its real.' He stared at me for sometime as if fighting himself then asked "Have you seen Mr.Grewal?" "No". Listening to my answer he leaves. And I keep staring him, thinking hard, why is he looking familiar to me, whereas I am meeting him for the first time!
'The sudden break of the bus jerks me back into the reality.'
