Ch 21 : A Father's Promise

Taani was still thinking what to answer purvi when Rey entered the kitchen and walked toward her. Taani saw him, and handed him the phone. Rey gave her a puzzled look.

"It's purvi, She saw you with us, now she is asking me what you were doing with us and i don't know what to answer." Taani told him in one breath. Rey knew it was time to tell him family.

"Hello, Purvi bhabhi, It's me Rey, and I'll explain everything to you all in evening."

"But-"

"Please, bhabhi, Don't ask anything now, I'll come home in evening and tell you everything." Rey told her, and purvi agreed to him for which he was grateful. Rey cut the call and gave her, her cell phone back.

"I'll go and tell them, and if they accept it then I'll come back to take you both." Rey told her, Taani nodded at him. Rey watched her as she set the dinning table. Rey step close to her, holding her arm, he pulled her into him. Taani look at him bewildered.

"Just because I'm being nice to you, it doesn't mean I have forgot everything you had done. I'm doing all this for Reyaan." Rey told her, she felt pain in her heart hearing those words, but didn't let those words made her feel weak in front.

"I know, and don't worry, feelings are mutual." Taani answered him back. They were gazing into each other's eyes, lost in each other when Reyaan entered there. He smiled seeing his parents, and walked toward them.

"Mumma-" Reyaan called out for him mother which brought his parents back in to reality, Taani gained control over her ragged breathing and detached herself away from him. Rey avert his gaze away from her, scolding himself mentally, for getting lost in her, again.

Rey laughed as Reyaan throw flour on him, after having lunch, he & Reyaan was helping taani in making a chocolate cake.

"Papa, don't make noises, if mumma saw us, she will scold us." Reyaan hushed him, looking at his mother who was busy in mixing the batter for cake. He knew her mumma hates it when he messed up with her kitchen.

"Aw. My baby is scared of getting scold by mumma." Rey teased him. Taani turned to get water, and stopped when her gaze fell over them, they had flour over their faces and she couldn't help but burst into fits of laughter, gaining their attention.

"Why are you laughing at us?" Rey asked her, he raised his one eyebrow at her questioningly. Taani picked up her cell phone from the platform, and clicked their photo.

"Shakal dekho apni." Taani showed them their photo while she continued laughing. Reyaan too started laughing seeing the picture while rey ran his hand through his messy hair, smiling at them. Reyaan put his finger in the cake batter then licked the batter off his finger, moaning at the yummy taste.

"Go & wash your face & hands till then I'll put the batter in microwave." Taani told him, Reyaan nodded and jumped off the kitchen platform making his parents yell at him to be careful. Reyaan gave them a puppy sorry face which melted them. Reyaan smiled, holding his father's hand he dragged him toward the washroom.

The trio was in their room, enjoying the cake they made together. Reyaan had smudged chocolate on his face while eating, and now making cute-cute facing which Rey was enjoying, and clicking his pictures in his cell phone. He wanted to cherish every moment with his son.

"Mujhe aap dono ke saath pic click karni hai." Reyaan told him, Rey nodded, Reyaan sat on his mother's lap and Rey sat beside taani, he turned on the front camera and clicked some family pics. His small family, which he admired.

They were enjoying their family moment when his cell phone ringed. He frowned seeing the call from his mother.

"Yes, mom." Rey picked up the call.

"Rey, we need to talk to you, come home." Sumitra's firm voice filled his ear.

"I'm coming." Rey answered before he cut the call and turned to his son who was having a sad look in his eyes.

"Are you leaving us again?" Reyaan's question broke his heart. Rey cupped his face and made him look into his eyes.

"No, baby, I'm going to meet my mumma, I'll be back before dinner." Rey assured him, he hates to see the fear in his son's eyes. He knew his son have this fear, that he will again leave them and he has to leave fatherless life again.

"Pakka? Promise me that you will come back, aap mumma aur mujhe chodkar kabhi nahi jaaoge, promise kijiye-" Reyaan spoke innocently but his voice reflected the pain he had gone through in absence of his father. Taani's eyes become moist seeing the pain in her son's eyes. It broke her heart, and Rey was feeling no different than her.

"I promise, Reyaan, I will never you & your mumma. I'll always be with you two." Rey promised him, wrapping his arm around him, he pulled him into his embrace.

"Thank you, papa, and I love you so much-" Reyaan beamed in happiness. Rey kissed his forehead and left from there. After he left, Taani prayed to god to make everything alright.
