Hey All,

How r u all doing?

Nisha...such beautiful updates...this 21st thread is really special. Loved Sam, Vandu, and Tan. Wish someone like Lasya baby was in my neighbourhood, i would have brought her home and played with her. Like some people crave ice cream, I am craving for a small baby to play and watch the cute antics.

Vikas read abt ur project, sounds awesome and very inventive. RV and MSRIT have always come up with unique inventions. A big Congrats to you and ur team. May u find more and more success in all aspects of ur life.

Shev: Sorry to hear abt ur husband's friend, I can understand the pain, have felt it ...life is full of such incidents, hope God gives strength to overcome the testing times and our loved ones play an important role in this.

Ashu, Swa...quest for R&B continues, btw did anyone check out the whirlpool fridge ad...the guy might almost fit into R&B's shoes. Its one where the wife and husband cook together. Pls chk it out...😳

OK have missed out on so many other comments, lil busy today and 2mrow. Preparing panner pakodas. And 2mrow there is potluck lunch in hubs office, so I have decided to prepare Cocunut sevai and chicken fry. Just wish nothing goes wrong.

Prayer & Punishment

The friends hung out for half hour before the nanny called saying Lasya was throwing a crying fit, Tan had to leave for a meeting
She checked her phone... Tan had texted her multiple times

"Aap call karo mujhe yaar"

"sam call me"

Sam went to Akka's balcony and called
Thatha was doing pooja loudly

"Kya hua?" "Why did u leave her jaan"😲

"Aapne kya kiya socho"😭

"Nothing... I am at Vandita's"😲

"Did u call the school?"

"Haan"😕

"Why didnt u check with me yaar..." Tan was frustrated😭

"Kis baat par yaar?"

"Bala was right there when u called, he was with the secretary... when the principal told him of your call Bala got very upset"

"MAGAR KYON TAN?"

"SAM YAAR SAMJHO... U got carried away and you tried to make it all better, waha banda apne bete ko lekar pareshaan hai" Tan explained

"I was only trying to help Tan"😭

"I" know that love... Bala apparently said "Mrs Batra is enabling my son"

The Batras were among the top 5 donors to the school, the school management was very empathetic towards requests they made

"I am not enabling him Tan, BACHA HAI"😭

"I know how you feel about kids, Sam... I know u love that kid... Bala wants him punished no matter what"

"Main baat karoon Bala se?"

"THANK YOU POOCHNE KE LIYE... But nahiii please yaar leave it to me"
"He just started 5th grade, I was reading the student hand book... based on the severity of the act suspension could go upto a month" Sam ranted

Vandu came with one more coffee

"Kya hua?"

"Tan and my in laws... poochho mat Vandita"

"Sorry my FIl chants loudly"

"Nobody chants in my house" Sam looked longingly at the pleasures of a simple life...

FIL sat cross legged on a wooden plank the flat smelled like incense... the dining area a part of it was covered up with pictures and idols
Two tall brass lamps burned on either side... MIL sat by him cutting up jasmine into 6 inch strings so he could place on the pictures

The maid clanked pots and pans in the sink

"Tan I am almost done"

"Vandita aa gayi... chal dont worry main karta hoon kuch"

Sam walked in finishing her coffee
sat down behind father in law cross legged on the floor and watched, he turned and smiled

And began explaining the day of the week and the deity to be worshipped

He used random Hindi words to make it simple Sam smiled indulgently

"Vandu ivalukku edaanu tiffin kudutheya?"😳 (Give her something)

"No aunty I came for a quick chat"😃

"Kyon... Vandita badhiya upma banayegi" she said in broken Hindi

"No aunty"

"Kuch khakar jaana chahiye Tuesday hai na" MIL said

"Does he do this every day?" she pointed to FIL

"Haan after retirement... no time... before" "Only work work work.."

Sam smiled in awe

"Prayer very important... sarve janaha sukhino bhavantu" (may the people of the world live in peace) she waved her hands around her head encircling the universe🤗

Sam nodded😳

"Delivery... Shravan education... Bala-Vandu, our health... no wars" the septuagenarian made a wish list

"Good list" Sam whispered unable to speak😭... she wondered how it must be to have someone that cares so much..

"Two boys I have" MIL spoke like she was meeting Sam for the first time😆

"Oh haan Ambala Anna?"

"Yes yes... u can say Anna very well"😃

"I am learning from Vandita"😳

"Yes yes... she is lecturer" MIL nodded with pride😆

"No daughter... only Vandita... u" she consoled herself

May be she will have a girl like me Aunty"😳

"Lalitha" "Yes" MIl agreed... and approved. Sam was over whelmed by the simplicity of desire😭

FIL grunted as MIL continued to chat😆

"Very angry man... with age... anger going away"😆

Sam chuckled

"Age and body" MIL gesticulated incompatibility with her hands👏

Sam nodded somberly

"In Ambala they have one shelf... no pooja room.. Appa does not like"
FIL glared at his wife😆

"Vandita's house is pretty aunty"

"Your house is very big... like a bungalow" MIL said

"It doesnt matter to me aunty" 😭Sam said with a faraway look "I am happy to have found Vandita"

"She is a good girl" MIL teared up

"I agree" Sam did not hesitate one second

Vandita brought upma in 15 minutes... "Sorry huh? MIL ne tumhe mere ghar ka sab gossip bola"

"Dont worry Vandita.. we are freinds.. more than family"
The women ate in silence

MIL gave Sam flowers and asked Vandita to pin it to her head, made FIL stop his pooja and give Rs. 51 to her for ashirwad

"How is Tanmay?" FIL asked

"Good Uncle"

"Tell him I sent him an article from Hindu about Call Centers very interesting"

"Jee zaroor"

"He checks his email everyday no?" FIL asked naively

"I think so... with two kids u never know Uncle" Sam played along

"Yes yes... we are waiting for the baby (gestured a infant with his hands)... pray for Vandita" FIL choked up

Sam could only nod

Vandita watched her from the balcony... Sam paused by her car turned looked up and waved as the driver held the door to the BMW🤗

People waiting for chartered buses turned to stare at the car and at Sam..

Sam dialed Tan "Are u @ school?"

"Haan.. u dont have to come"

"I want to"

"No I have chatted with the princi"

"WHAT DID HE SAY?" Sam whispered😲

"Bala would not allow him to go free... so he was suspended for a week"👏

Sam leaned back weakly on the seat... at the Malai Mandir intersection the driver turned to her "School jaana hai?"
She shook her head as tears flowed😭

"Prayer and Punishment" what a title!
One side Thatha praying for everyones well being in the family. And other side dad is punishing son for wrong doings.

The old couple they really make you tear up! Sam, Vandu and the kids paavam. Very Sad! 😭

One question Nisha are the couple Vandu's in-laws or grand parents..why do II & Vandu call them thatha patti? 😕
