Sometime in the darkest hours of night, the sleep aid that Khushi took began to where off. The pain came in like a tidal wave, hitting her so unexpectedly that she almost screamed. She would have screamed if she hadn't recalled the meddling family members of her "husband's" family.
She threw her legs off the bed and placed her feet on the ground. The moment her weight pressed on her legs she fell. Khushi crawled around the room trying to find her way out. Instead she knocked into the coffee table creating a huge boom as Arnav's laptop fell to the ground.
Arnav hearing the noise awoke. He quickly turned on the light to she Khushi sitting in the center of the room.
"Khushi!" He ran to her
He knelt down and tried to put a comforting hand on her shoulder, only to be brushed off.
"Don't touch me!" Khushi snapped grasping her head in pain
"Khushi, give me a minute and I'll go downstairs and get your pain medication." Arnav sighed
Khushi had managed to climb her way back into bed before Arnav arrived with her medicine.
"Here." Arnav grunted handing her a pill and some water
Though Khushi distrusted him she took the pill praying that it would just take away the pain.
"Do you want me to lay with you till you fall back asleep?"
He'd been sleeping on the couch in order to give her space.
"Why would I want that?" She gave him a glare "I don't know you, you're somebody I've only met today. Why would I want you crawling into bed with me?"
"I'll say this as many times as you need to understand, I'm your husband!" He snapped
"We're strangers." Khushi stated "I don't know you and I'm not the person I used to be because I can't remember. We're strangers. Get that into your head! I don't know you and you don't know me!"
"Oh, I think I know you Khushi kumari Gupta Singh Raizada." He said looking at her intensely
"You know me well? You think you know me well enough to know what I'll do next?" Khushi raised her eyebrow
Before Arnav could respond the glass of water she was holding zoomed passed his head. The glass exploded as I hit the wall. The shards of glass flying about, one actually managed to graze his cheek.
"Well think again dear husband of mine, you don't know me at all." She spat
"Khushi!" He scolded, grabbing her wrist in a tight grasp
Khushi looked at the man who was currently hurting her and couldn't believe that there was ever any part of herself that ever loved the man. He got mad over a little broken glass, he obviously has no patience or compassion for others.
"You're hurting me." Khushi snapped trying to break free of his hold.
"Well you hurt me!" He yelled
"It's just a little scratch, don't be a wimp." She shrugged
"I'm not talking about the scratch, Khushi!" He exclaimed "I'm talking about how you hurt me by losing all your memories of me... Of us!"
Khushi opened her mouth to respond only to be interrupted by the onslaught of relatives gathering in the bed room.
"Chot what happened!" Anjali gasped at the broken glass
"Is everything ok bhai?" Akash added
"Everything is fine. Khushi just woke up, and she was afraid because she didn't recognize anything, but everything is ok now." Arnav made up an excuse "Khushi." Anjali walked over to her "you don't have to be afraid, we're your family." Anjali lifted a hand to stroke her hair only have her hand pushed away
"Don't touch me, don't touch my hair." Khushi shouted
Just looking at the girl in front of her made her pain increase. Khushi didn't know what it was about her but her entire body was screaming for her to stay away.
"Khushi apologize to Di right now!" Arnav demanded
"Why?" Khushi asked
"You were rude so you need to apologize to her." Akash cut in before Arnav could speak
"I was rude? She's the one who barged into my room in the middle of the night. She's also the one who tried to touch me without my permission. she was rude first."
"I apologize Khushiji." Anjali said
"I'd like you all to leave now." Khushi turned away from them.
"I'd like to be alone, you're giving me a headache."
"Just leave for now. Khushi will apologize for her actions tomorrow." Arnav rushed the two siblings out of the room
"I wasn't aware that being alone included you." Khushi grunted
"We're husband and wife, whatever you do includes me." Arnav state matter of fact
"DM, I'm so sorry! You lost your memories too!" Khushi exaggerated
"No I didn't lose my memories..."
"Then get out." Khushi yelled
"Khushi, honey. I'm sorry that this happened to you but I'm only trying to help." Arnav sat next to her on the bed
"You really want to help me?" She asked
Arnav ran his fingers through her hair and smile "Of course I do."
"Then please leave me alone." She begged
"I'm sorry but I can't do that." He laid now and held her in his arms
"Let's just try to get some sleep." He rocked her back and forth in a soothing motion
Khushi had no idea why but sleep was suddenly came easier when she laid in his arms. It felt like she knew this side of him unconsciously and he made her feel protected.
Arnav didn't stop rocking her until he heard the soft snoring of her sleep.
"I don't know if you exist but thank you for bringing her back to me." He spoke to the sky addressing any celestial being that might be listening
