Chapter11( B)

Mumbai High Court

As judge arrived & seated himself, the proceedings began, both prosecutor & defense presented their sides, ASR was amazed seeing convoluted use of english words & terminologies half of which were incomprehensible to him or rather everybody sitting there except the lawyers & the judge. Both the lawyers were throwing sections of laws, arguments, counter arguments unswervingly, both were pro & now he was seeing live why they were called the best in the field. Both the sharp tongues were skillfully bickering, the court room was absolutely silent with mum spectators, who were spellbound by the show being put forward by the ace lawyers of the country. ASR himself had seen many movies with trial scenes, even he himself was part of a court room scene in his last movie, but what he was seeing here was a completely different experience, the battle tongues being unleashed here was incomparable!!!

He was busy cajoling their skills but was brought back from his musing by calling of his name, almost every head turned to his direction, he then realized that probably it was his turn to be in the witness box, he rose from his seat & walked over to the WB , after the conventional oath, he saw Khushi watching & walking intendedly towards him

So.Mr. Raizada were u shooting for 'Kayamath'?She asked directly

Yes, I was ASR said in attitude

For how long?

Some 1 and a half months, I suppose

Hmm... why did u quit? Khushi asked watching ASR keenly

I had issues with Mehta.he said looking at her direct in the eyes

What issues?Khushi asked leaning closer to him

I ...just had some issues.ASR said breaking the staring session

WHAT ISSUES MR RAIZADA ?She said pressing further.

I ..

I object my lord Ms. Gupta is pressurizing my client with irrelevant questions.Jha said rising from his chair.

Objection overruled Ms. Gupta u may precede.

So what issues you had??Khushi again asked

Mr. Mehta was not paying me the amount we had decided.ASR knew he was lying, but did he have any option--??--??-- no, so he lied while his gaze wavered everywhere except her.

And that was?

11 crores

How much did he pay?

Nothing

R u sure he paid u nothing? Khushi inquired raising her eyebrows

Yes. Not a single penny.He lied convincingly.

I ask u again, u received no payments during your 1 & a half month shooting period? She again questioned trying to corner him.

My lord, I object! Ms Gupta is wasting the courts valuable time by repeating the questions. The question has been asked & answered. Jha again intervened

Objection sustained.

I m sorry your honor , but I wanted to confirm that Mr.Raizada makes no mistake while answering this vital question.

Ok..Mr. Raizada isn't it strange that u were shooting for a movie for so long without being paid??She asked suspiciously

I knew Mehta, I had done 2 movies earlier with him, so I trusted him & never thought this will happen.

Mr. Raizada did u sign any contract for the movie?

No

Sure?

How many times do I have to answer your each question''.when I said no, I MEAN NO.ASR shouted irritatingly

I am asking my questions again & again because u seems to have taken the oath to lie here rather than speak truth Mr. Raizada!!! Khushi yelled one octave higher than ASR.

I object my lord, she is accusing my client without any proof.

Objection sustained, Ms. Gupta do not accuse without proof!!!Judge said matter-of-factedly

Your honor I have enough proofs & witnesses to prove the fact that Mr. Raizada was paid the signing amt that was 5 crores, not only that Mr. Raizada did not leave the film because of monetary issues with the producer but because the film management failed to meet his obnoxious demands every now & then, his irresponsible & unprofessional act of leaving the film unfinished has caused my client a heavy loss of 27.2 crores, so I request u to accept this case of claim against Mr.Raizada for the loss of 27.2 crores that my client Mr. mehta suffered.

Hmm'...defence Judge shifted his attention to Jha.

I fail to understand my lord how can this breach of contract case be pursued and how can a claim be made on my client in absence of any binding contract?? My client Mr. Raizada is not bound by any contract or legal document, he did not sign the contract for the film!!! so he cant be asked to pay for the losses surfacing due to his abdicating the shooting, moreover there is no proof that he received any kind of payments for this movie because he did NOT!!!, so this claim is totally baseless & must be rejected without further thought.

I object my lord, Khushi intervened as I stated earlier I have proofs to prove that Mr. Raizada received the signing amount which I can produce in court in future hearing. And as far as legally binding contract is concerned, for that I will again like to call Mr. Raizada in the witness box ..

Judge nodded giving her the permission.

ASR again stepped into the witness box,

Mr. Raizada did u or did u not sign the contract for 3 films with Mr Mehta some 5 years back??

ASR froze, it had completely slipped out of his mind, he could now recall having signed a doc. that allowed him to be the lead for Mehta productions next 3 movies. But it was long time back when he was a rising star, over the time no one ever mentioned it neither Mehta nor him, and he had almost forgotten about it.

Mr.Raizada do I need to repeat my question? She asked desperately

I did!!

That's it my lord!!

Hmmm...the judge scribbled down something on the papers in front of him and announced, "The case has been adjourned till the next hearing!!"

A smile appeared on Mr. Mehta & Nitin's face while Jha was doomed, this is so not happening, he was furious at ASR for not telling him abt this, the case has almost slipped out of his hands, as soon as she'll present the documents & witnesses in the court in coming hearings he'll be defeated, defeated by his onetime own apprentice, that too Khushi Gupta!!

On the other hand ASR was still rooted on the same place, he couldn't believe it, how can he do such a blunder?? He leaned at the wooden enclosure shutting his eyes tight, he pressed his forehead with his forefingers, he knew this long forgotten 5 yr old contract can cost him a lot of money, not just money but a lot of things were now at stake. His scuffle with Mehta, Khushi & the the whole media coverage has made it a question of his pride. Standing here he knew he had to do something, and that to quick else the reputation, esteem , prestige he has build over years will be ruined within coming few days.

Meanwhile Khushi had her full attention on Jha, the look on his vile face was calming her soul, it was such a soothing feeling to see him so feeble & weak at the moment, the day is surely one of the most memorable days of her life, the day she has almost brought down the Devil of her past on his knees. Her gaze slowly shifted to Nitin & Mr. Mehta who had hugged her rejoicing their success, this brought a sweat smile on her face, while they continued to discuss 'bout the case, she moved to the table & gathered all the files , while removing her coat she saw ASR standing frozen in the WB,

She should be happy to see him like that not because she hated him or something, but because he has always rubbed her the wrong way, he tried his best to belittle her whenever he got a chance, in short u can say he said & did everything she despised, yet his forlorn look didn't make her happy. Rather it pricked her!!!

Chapter12 {short update}

ASR moved out of the court in a trance,

After the briefing by the lawyers media was eagerly waiting for his comments on the issue , ASR on the other hand was still deep in his thoughts, he was not in a situation to even comprehend where he was walking forget about issuing comments to the eager media, Aman quickly sensed his condition, & motioned the bodyguards to keep reporters at bay.

But the media was uncontrollable; they were not letting him move to his car, suddenly Jha's car pulled over by his side & ASR was ushered in by his bodyguards. As ASR settled in beside JHa & car pulled out to the main road, Jha turned towards him & asked irritatingly

"what was that ASR?? Do u have any idea what ur 'I DID' do to the case, we have almost lost it. Why didn't u tell me before abt the old contract?"

Don't talk to me like that Jha, don't forget who I am, & where u stand before me!!

ASR...ASR u r not understanding the gravity of the situation, Jha said softly this time. We r losing!!! this contract has completely turned the case in their favor, we can't do much now the case is almost invincible!!

"No.No.No. don't say that, I can't lose!" ASR said desperately shaking his head "Do something Jha, u r the best in the field, apply any goddamn tactic but bring me out of this mess. Charge as much as u want but win this, its now the question of my pride& I cant lose now!!, ASR was now completely blinded by the fear of defeat,

But there is not much we can do ASR except that we... he was cut in by ASR.

Then do it. bribe people, put false evidences or whatever it takes I don't care I just want to win this case that's it!!

Hmmm.. Jha nodded

In his insecurities ASR failed to realize than unknowingly he has ushered his consent to Jha to put Khushi's life in danger, in his desperation he could not see that agreeing to jha's unheard vicious idea will bring a storm that will not only crumble her world but also will make him feel guilty for his entire lifetime.!!

ASR Mansion

ASR was drowning in liquor, today's events were too much for him to handle. First the almost lost case in court than these media reports and their disparagement, branding him with so many scornful names as if he had turned from a super-star into a super-criminal just because he stopped shooting of a film!!

He was angry, angry with himself, media, jha, Mehta , Khushi, Aman everybody, every single being!!

Pack after pack followed till his senses almost became numb.

Jha's office

jha was sitting in his cabin spinning the paperweight, it was late night but his mind was weaving his future course of action. He knew he was losing the case, defeat was not something he was acquainted with, it never came easy to him, especially after knowing that its from none other but Khushi, he cannot let it happen!!

I will have to do something before the next hearing" jha said rising from his chair

Moving out of his cabin he promised himself that he will definitely win this case no matter what it takes. Even if required harming or killing someone he wouldn't hesitate!!!

Khushi's apartment

khushi was busy completing the night kitchen chores when doorbell of her apartment rang, Max sprang into action, reached the door & began sniffing the door, his sniffs were soon replaced by loud barks, this alarmed Khushi, stranger!! But who could be at her door so late at night ??

she wiped her hands , walked up to the door. She rose on her toes & tried to take sneak peak using the eye hole, but no one was visible in the view, pressing her ears on the door she called, "Who's there??" , her question was answered by sheer silence.

Door bell again rang , she contemplated whether to open the door or call the security, she again tried to take a glimpse through the eye-hole, This time a male silhouette with his back towards the door came into view, the torso seemed familiar, but it was still unidentifiable for her. Max was barking continuously.

She hesitantly opened the door slightly to have a look at the untimely guest, but as soon as she unbolted the door, it banged open with tremendous force, a heavy torso stumbled on her making her lose her balance & fall on the ground with the intruder on top of her!!!
