UPDATE:
MONTH THREE
WEEK 1
DAY 1
It was 6.45 when they reached Delhi. After baggage claim and immigration formalities, they stepped into the warm weather of February.
The family welcomed them back home with excitement and fawned over them as they displayed the gifts to everyone.
Nani was pleased to be handed over a tapestry portraying the pantheon of the Olympian Gods. Anjali was given a show-piece- a plate of diameter 1 foot which had 'Greece' written in its centre and the Parthenon in its background. Mami was given a local Greek Perfume. NK was given a set of Keychain and Fridge-magnets. Khushi had gotten a plate in which Hercules was slaying the Hydra for Shyam.
"Di, this is for Shyamji'" she handed over the plate, smiling.
Anjali took it curiously, while Arnav looked at the plate suspiciously. Anjali and Khushi seemed to exchange a knowing look and giggled.
"Can I see Di?"
"Sure Chhote'" Anjali handed over the plate giggling.
Arnav stared at the plate.
Hercules was wearing a toga and a Greek Armour, battling what looked like a huge dragon with hundreds of head in a sickly green color.
"This is a gift!?" he asked.
"It is quite suitable Arnavji'" Khushi said seriously.
"What the-!" he said and looked at Anjali who was laughing.
As Khushi was closing the suitcase, Anjali stopped her. "Khushiji, there is one more package left'"
Khushi frowned. She didn't remember having bought anything.
Arnav closed his eyes. Shit! Not NOW!
Khushi looked at where Anjali was pointing and saw a cylindrical package wrapped in brown paper.
She picked it up and unwrapped it and gasped. She looked at Arnav, who was looking at the floor.
"WoW! So pretty Khushiji'!" Anjali exclaimed, running a hand over the carpet.
"Thank you Di'" Khushi muttered, looking at Arnav curiously.
"Well, I will set lunch for everybody'" Anjali said, getting up.
*
Lunch was a quiet affair' The rest of the day went by smoothly, and Arnav and Khushi's paths didn't cross.
*
Night-
Khushi was setting their clothes back inside when Arnav walked in.
She stopped for a moment and then continued with her work. "You shouldn't have'"
"Shouldn't have what?" Arnav asked.
"Shouldn't have gotten that carpet'"
"Why not? You liked it'"
She turned to him and crossed her arms. "Since when do my likes and dislikes matter to you?"
Arnav ignored her, which Khushi was expecting anyway. She went back to her work as he sat on the recliner and opened his laptop.
Khushi looked at him. "Work on the bed. I need to sleep'"
"Sleep on the bed. I need to work here'"
Khushi sighed and walked to the bed.
"And uh, Khushi? Your radio is in the drawer right there'" Arnav said, standing up.
Khushi blinked at him in surprise for a moment and then ran to the bedside drawer.
She pulled out the radio and played. It worked perfectly fine!
Tears of joy filled her eyes and without thinking, she ran to Arnav and gave him a hug. "Thank you!"
Arnav took the opportunity and hugged her back. "I'm sorry'"
Those words brought Khushi back to the present. She broke away. "I am sorry' I dunno what got into me'" she muttered and walked to the bed.
She fell asleep, with her mother's radio playing a soft tune, while Arnav stood there for a few seconds, trying to come to terms with the emptiness in his arms.
DAY 2 passed without event.
Women got busy with chores and men went back to their offices.
DAY 3
Arnav was on his way back home, and stuck in traffic. He stopped at the Red Signal, frustrated and began to look around when he saw a man with a white hanky tied around his head and a woman walking by him, her head covered in a white veil.
And unannounced, a memory attacked him.
A memory of Lucknow' A white veiled, spirited girl yelling at him and returning a silver key to him, which he had ungraciously thrown back at her.
A realization hit him, and breaking the traffic rules he sped home.
When he arrived, all lights were out and everyone was sleeping. He went into his room quietly and opened his cupboard. He pulled out a grey suit and slipped his hand into the pocket, and pulled out a tiny silver object.
He stared at in wonder' It was the same key! Unbelievable, but true!
His eyes went to Khushi's sleeping form, clutching the blankets tightly.
She had thrown it that night, which meant it had been with her till then'.
Why? Why did she keep it? If she had kept it so long, why did she throw it then?
These questions swallowed his thoughts and as he changed into his nightclothes, he wondered for the second time if he had been wrong about her'.
DAY 4
Shyam was home from his er, 'business trip' and was greeting everyone. His eyes searched for Khushi, and he saw her watching him with hatred burning in her eyes, from the top of the stairs.
He was ushered in to the room by an excited Anjali who said that Khushi had gotten a gift for him from Greece.
Curious, he looked at the plate and his face scrunched up in annoyance at the sight of Hercules and the Hydra. It was obvious from the dirty glares Khushi had been passing him that he was not Hercules.
He would talk to her right NOW!
"RS, I will be back'" he smiled and headed out, watched by an anxious Anjali, who decided to follow him.
*
As Shyam passed the beams over looking the poolside, he heard a voice.
"Why! After everything he does to me, I still love him! I wish I could hate him! Arnav Singh Raizada, I wish I could hate you! I can't believe that I love you!"
Shyam froze and felt furious. He was about to make a move in, when he felt a hand on his shoulder.
"Arey, Shyamji? What are you doing here? I wanted to serve you some lunch!"
Shyam gritted his teeth and walked away.
*
Anjali had walked in just in time to hear Khushi say "I love you!"
She saw her husband's muscles tense and take a step ahead.
She knew what he would do, and she had to stop him.
Arey, Shyamji? What are you doing here? I wanted to serve you some lunch!"
Anjali was tempted to laugh at his constipated face, but checked herself.
The rest of the day was as normal as it could be in the lives of the Raizadas.
DAY 5, 6, 7
Nothing of much importance happened in the rest of the week.
Akash observing his brother and bhabhi, Khushi ignoring Arnav, Arnav working in his office to avoid getting bothered by Khushi's silence and Anjali having random fun at Shyam's expense.
The whole week passed with Khushi wearing only full-sleeved clothes, which had Arnav anxious as to how bad her injuries were.PRECAP:
#1
"Don't you get the meaning of 'Don't touch me!'" she said, keeping herself from shrieking out loud.
"Khushi, shut up! You will wake the house!"
"YES! GOOD! I am sick of this! Fake smiles, fake happiness, fake laughter and most of all, your BLOODY FAKE LOVE!" she cried.
He froze. "Well, maybe you want to go spend time with someone who loves you then…? HIM I suppose?" he asked stiffly.
Her eyes grew wide and suddenly the fire in her was put off. "You never will understand… And believe me, when you finally do… I won't be around…" she said sadly and wiped a tear from her eyes.
Sighing, she walked upstairs.
Arnav stared at her retreating form for a few seconds in confusion, wondering what in the world she had meant.
Moments later, he followed Khushi upstairs.
Both of them didn't notice Payal's troubled face as she looked up at the two of them going upstairs from the sofa, a magazine in her lap, hidden by the pillar under the shadow of a dim table lamp.
#2
*covers face and squeaks* Aaahhh! Don't hate me for this please! 😭
Arnav leaned back on his chair, with a sadistic sneer on his face. "Well, well, well. I would like to see your face Khushi Gupta, when you find out that your beloved Shyam Jha was the one who got your darling Bhabhi killed…."
