APPARITION'S PROTOCOL
Chapter One: Naina
Furious was an understatement. For Arnav Singh Raizada had never experienced an anger so potent in his entire life. Her words rang in his head over and over again, growing louder as he stepped harder on the accelerator.
"You're nothing. Just a man who has nothing to his name but his money and his ego"
The same image kept flashing in his brain. Naina, naked in bed with his roommate, the man he had once thought to be his well wisher, his best friend.
Arnav had returned to his room early; today was no ordinary night. He had booked the hotel, bought the ring, ordered the roses and he was on his way to pick out the perfect suit and tie when his entire world came crashing down in an instant. Naina, his Naina, turned out to be nothing he imagined. Her promises of love and inseparability dissolved in an instant, as he walked in to witness her moaning a name that did not belong to him. The ring in his pocket, that he hoped would change his life lost all its meaning, and like an anchor, it brought his knees crashing to the ground.
It did change his life. But not for the better. It completely demolished him.
"Stop it Arnav. Naina is over." He tried to stop the images of her from retreating back into his thoughts, yet his attempts only suffered in vain. Her black, curly tresses and the chime of her angelic laugh seemed perfectly engraved in his memory. He could smell the spearmint on her breath and the fragrance of sandalwood of her skin. The glint of her deep black eyes and the flush of her cheeks were mocking him, tempting him to go back to his room and take her in his arms once more.
"Maybe it was Dev. He could have messed with her emotions. Instigated her"
No. He knew Dev all too well. Dev could never be serious enough about a girl to make an effort to claim her. If he found Dev and Naina in that position, Naina had to have been willing to compromise with their relatioship. He tried to deny the circumstances, yet the sharpness of her words kept stabbing him, "You're nothing. Just a man who has nothing to his name but his money and his ego."
"DAMN IT ARNAV".
He hit the brakes and began hammering the steering wheel, bellowing at the top of his lungs, until he lost all control and collapsed against his dashboard, crying at his fate, crying at his circumstances.
"Don't let her get to you like this. If she can sleep with Dev, don't hold back. Show her that you're nothing less."
With that, Arnav quickly turned the key in the ignition and drove a few more blocks until he found exactly what he was looking for.
