CHAPTER 7 (PMs later)

Khushi's POV

I glanced around the wedding shop that we had just entered... Hoping to find a chair, or any sort infrastructure which could suggest that the next 3-4 hours of shopping would not be as bad as I expected it to be. Shopping could excite any girl, no doubt. But here, I was shopping with THE SUNAINA. I could not even start to describe why shopping with her was so tiring, when I heard another scream from her.




I looked at Sunaina once again, who was, without doubt, the person who had screamed her lungs out for the second time today.. But what was surprising was that this time, it was not because of a shop or a dress that she had seen... She was just staring at this man at the door of the shop...




I didn't think twice before starting to walk towards the door... Well I had half a mind of asking him to shop with sunaina, so that I could go home now, but decided to introduce myself to him first..




"You must be Suraj right?..." I asked him as I approached the door of the shop




"And you must be Khushi.." He said, while smiling at me politely.. I nodded, before he continued to speak




"Oh god. Sunaina has told me soo much about you... You are without doubt her most favourite person.. I hope I come a close second!.." He said... He was a really nice person, I concluded.




Sunaina has always had a good taste.. And Suraj was probably the perfect guy for her... He was nice, looked good... He wasn't the best looking person around, but he was a perfect gentleman..! Sunaina was one lucky person!


"Not fair guys. Its my job to introduce you guys to each other..You cannot do it yourself!" Sunaina whined, as she approached us...


"Guys.. You have to meet this one person...! He like a perfect dukhi aatma.. All work, no play..!.. I'm tired of trying to even bring a trace of happiness back into his life.. Its as if he is devoid of all emotion..! He is like the person who you would call a rational fool.. I toh gave up now.. Can you guys try please? It will be a huge favour! " Suraj said, looking at the two us with a very hopeful expression..


Even though bringing back happiness in people's lives was not a part of my job description, I could not say no to that hopeful expression of his... For my friend's to-be groom, I'd give it a shot... After all, there are very few things that Khushi could not succeed in.


As we approached the man who Suraj was talking about, I could see a faint figure of a man who was roaming around aimlessly... That brought a smile to my face.. He may be a dukhi aatma, but he was definitely cute!


When we were close enough to be able to the face of the man clearly, I froze.


It seemed like the world was spinning around me... I just could not make sense of anything that was happening.. All I could see in front me was the face of the man who was my life 10 years ago.. Back then, I could not have even imagined a moment without him... But now.. I just did not want to see him... And there he was.. right in front of me... as if telling me that nothing in life goes the way we want it to...


I came back to life when sunaina pinched me on my arm.. "He looks great, I know... But you can't just freeze like that.. Thats the last thing you should do when you're meeting a man for the first time" She said softly, as she continued to drag me towards Him...

Like in a Bollywood Drama movie, each step towards him felt like a big mistake... My brain was telling me to run away.. fly back to germany or to any other country so that you never see him again! But my body was not listening to my brain.. It kept taking small steps towards him...


When our eyes first met, I saw him stiffen too.. He remembers.. He remembers it all.. I don't know why that made me happy.. but any sense of happiness disappeared when I remembered the last conversation we ever had.. I closed my eyes as my tears threatened to spill..

"Will you let me explain for heaven's sake..?"



"Please.. Lets end this with some sort of decency... I swear if you say anything more, I do not know if I can keep my cool"


"But this is a huge misunderstanding..."


"Look this is what is best..."


"I'm going to miss you.."


"Bye"

Sunaina brought me out my thoughts once again, and I realized that I was now standing face to face with him...




10 years had changed him... He looked like an angry young man now...His eyes seemed distant and cold.. He was still in shock, but his indifference to the world, as I remember Suraj mentioning, was clearly evident in the way he dressed and looked.. He was not the same person who I had fallen in love with..




I looked at sunaina, who looked back at me expectantly. Ofcourse she knew nothing..




"Hi... you must be Arnav" I said, while extending my hand towards Arnav...


My hands were visibly shaking...and my heart beat had sped up by atleast 3 times...


Arnav recovered from his shock about a minute after I extended my hand towards him.. I looked into his eyes once again, and something had definitely changed.. something I could not put my finger on... but this change somehow had me shivering..


He extended his hand towards mine and shook my hand... Neither of us bothered to withdraw our hands from the hand shake.. It had been 10 whole years since I had felt his touch.. And somehow... It still felt right..


When I looked around again, I noticed that sunaina and suraj had gone missing... I closed my eyes again as I realised that this was the storm after the calm...


"So we meet again Arnav.." I said, trying to start a conversation


"Not the way we expected things to unfold huh?" He said after a 2 minute pause...
