Epilogue
He lay the world at her feet. They went travelling around the world for three months, retracing the steps he had taken many years ago when he went backpacking as a callow youth. Khushi was delighted to see new places and meet new people, but was ecstatic to be back home by the end of it.
He did take her shopping for new clothes – he seemed to delight in decking her up with the latest fashions off the ramps of the world's fashion capitals. Her inner diva delighted in the exercise, after her initial inhibitions were banished. She refused to show her legs in Delhi around family though – which was just another excuse for ASR to whisk his pretty wife off to unknown destinations every now and then.
But the gift she probably appreciated the most was Khushi's. He took her blindfolded in the SUV one fine morning after they came back from the honeymoon. She didn't like surprises and protested vociferously along the way. He thrust a pair of scissors in her hands and had her cut the ribbon and then opened her blindfold.
They were at the entrance to a building housing ultra-modern kitchens and an office area. Aman was waiting for them with a folder of resumes for her perusal. Khushi's bewilderment turned to sheer joy when she realized Arnav had built a company for her – a corporate catering service in the heart of the Central Business District. [Part of the AR Group, the company was owned 49% by Khushi and 51% by Arnav – testament to his desire for control!]
Khushi's quickly gained repute for delivering tasty, wholesome, customized meals to officegoers. www.khushis.com was launched within two years, to the delight of their ever-expanding customer base. Our heroine's waistline was expanding by then as well, as Arnav and Khushi prepared eagerly (on both their parts) and apprehensively (on his part) for their first-born. Said first-born came early, with a fierce frown on his face and fists tightly closed, protesting loudly at being separated from his mother – so like his father! He entranced everyone with his big hazel eyes (so like his mother) when he calmed down. The brood of Naniji-Anjali-Mamiji couldn't be happier at taking turns to cuddle little Anand Singh Raizada, for what else could the son of Khushi be called? She called him "Princeji" however, much to the bemusement of the proud father.
Everyone lived long, happy, fulfilling lives, basking in the love and security that only a close-knit family can give. Arnav and Khushi's love endured, grew and flourished in this warmth. When it was time for them to bid adieu to the world, after many decades, they did so together on their bed, her hand tucked between his palms, under his cheek, as was his aadat, and her leg flung over his waist in a tae-kwon-do position, as was her aadat.
