THE HEART KNOWS

CHAPTER 26

The show was near its end. The proud owners of the new fashion collection were called on to the stage. Arnav got up from the chair and extended his hand towards her.

"Shall we?" he asked.

"Me?"

He nodded.

"My dress does not suit this occasion."

"Your red sari is perfect. People will drool over you and I am going to have a tough time protecting you."

"I don't want anybody else looking at me like that."

"I'll take care of that. Chalein?" [Shall we?]

She accepted his hand and they walked to the back stage where Siddharth waited for Arnav. He saw the two walking hand in hand and smiled.

He gave Khushi a big hug, kissed her forehead and said, "Love you, sweetheart."

"Love you too, Siddhu."

Arnav cleared his throat and the two looked at him.

"Looks like some one is jealous," Siddharth told her.

He pulled Arnav closer and hugged the two of them together.

"Don't ever make her cry again," he warned Arnav. "You will have to answer me and my father."

"Don't worry, sasurji," Arnav told him. "I will take care of your daughter very well."

"Sasurji…?" Khushi said. [Father in law…?]

Siddharth and Khushi looked at him and then at each other in surprise.

"Aap ko kaise patha?" Khushi asked him. [How do you know?]

"Pathi hoon tumara. Sab jaantha hoon." [I am your husband. I know everything.]

Their names were called again and their small reunion was cut short. Both the men extended their hands towards her and she accepted both their hands. The three walked down the ramp. Arnav on the left, Khushi in the middle and Siddharth on the right. Cameras flashed continuously as they walked down the ramp.

The crowd gathered in front of them murmured among themselves as they did not know who the woman in the middle was.

A man gave the two men a microphone and the crowd waited for an answer from them.

Siddharth spoke first. "Thank you for coming here for the launch of our latest collections. This is the first time AR and SR designs has come together for a show. Thanks to you for helping us make this show a success."

Arnav spoke next. "This is the first time two rival companies have joined together for a show and this won't be the last time either. Thank you."

"A man of few words," Khushi told herself. She had thought that he had finished his speech.

He had more. "None of this would have worked out if not for our combined effort. A big round of applause for Mr. Siddharth Raina, please."

Everybody cheered Siddharth.

"I have seen the looks on all your faces when you saw today's stage. The credit goes to the beautiful woman standing beside me."

Khushi's mouth nearly fell open in shock. Her husband flirted with her in public.

"Put your hands together for Khushi Raina Singh Raizada," he introduced his wife to the whole world.

Siddharth and Khushi couldn't believe their ears. Had he really said Khushi Raina Singh Raizada?

Arnav noticed the look in their faces and squeezed Khushi's hand.

The crowd was silent for a couple of seconds and then clapped.

"Khushi Raina Singh Raizada, the Art Director for this show," he said. "My wife," he added possessively.

Once they returned to the backstage out of everybody's view, Arnav said, "I am proud of you, jaan."

"Jaan?" Siddharth asked in surprise.

Khushi turned red. "I thought you would say that when we are alone."

"Only between the three of us," Arnav promised her.

Arnav kissed her cheek and Siddharth chose that exact moment to kiss her other cheek.

"Love you," both said together.

Khushi laughed and the two men were lost in her smile. Both of them wanted her to be happy and they loved it when she smiled.

"Keep smiling forever," Siddharth told her.

"Jab aap dhono mere paas ho, mujhe koi problem nahi hai. I will be happy hamesha hamesha ke liye." [When the both of you are with me, I will have no problems at all. I will be happy forever.]

Akash saw the three behind the stage and said, "Welcome back, Khushi bhabi."

"Bhabi?" she asked in shock. "Aap tho mere jeju hai. Aap kyun mujhe bhabi bula rahe hain?" [You are my jeju. Why are you calling me bhabi?]

"Aise hi bholna chahiye," Arnav told her. "Umar mein mujhse chota hai. So Akash will call my wife bhabi." [He has to call like that. He is younger than me.]

"Jeju, don't listen to him. Call me Khushi." She saw Arnav's sad look and said, "Once in a while for his sake you can call me bhabi."

Arnav smiled and said, "That's my Khushi."

Prakash joined them and said, "I think congratulations are in order." He hugged Khushi and said, "Always be happy, Khushi. And if Arnav says anything, tell me. I'll take care of him."

"Okay, papa."

"Okay?" Arnav asked in shock. "You are okay with your father scolding your husband?"

"Nahi. Nahi. I am okay with my father scolding his damad."

"Khushi!!!"

"Arnavji!!!" she said with the same modulation.

"What will I do without you?" he asked as he put his arms around her waist and hugged her from behind.

Aman called Siddharth aside and spoke with him for a while.

"Ghar chalein?" Arnav asked Khushi. [Shall we go home?]

That was when Khushi realized her situation. She was Arnav's wife. She wouldn't be able to stay with Siddharth any more. She looked at Prakash and Siddharth and tears filled her eyes.

"Khushi?"

Arnav did not know the reason behind her tears. When he saw her looking at Siddharth, he understood. He slowly removed his hands from her waist and stepped aside.

She walked towards Siddharth. He said something to Aman and stopped mid sentence when he saw Khushi. He noticed her tears and excused himself from Aman.

"Khushi sweetheart, kya hua? Arnav ne kuch kaha?" he asked with a lot of concern in his voice. [Khushi sweetheart, what happened? Did Arnav say something?]

She shook her head and hugged him tight. He gently rubbed her back until she calmed down.

"Mujhe darr lagta hai," she said in a very low voice. [I am frightened.]

"Darr? Lekin kyun?" [Fear? But why?]

"I don't want to choose between you and Arnavji."

He pushed her a little so that he could see her face. "Kis stupid ne kaha ki tume choose karni hogi? [Which stupid told you that you have to choose?] You don't have to choose."

"Par tum…? [But you…?] I can't leave you and go with him. I am selfish. Mujhe aap dhono chahiye." [I need the both of you.]

"Iss mein selfish hone ki koi baath nahi. Waise where am I going to go? It is true that I can not be near you every second. Lekin ek waada kar saktha hoon. Jab bhi tum mujhe yaad karogi, main tumari saamne aasaktha hoon. I promise that I will be with you when ever you need me. And as far as choosing is concerned, don't even think about it. Arnav aur main choose the best option ki tara a, b, c options nahi. Hum dhono fill in the blanks ki tara. Humari bina tum adori hai aur tumari bina hum." [There is nothing selfish about it. However where am I going to go? It is true that I can not be near you every second. I can make you a promise. Whenever you think of me, I will be in front of you. I promise that I will be with you whenever you need me. And as far as choosing is concerned, don't even think about it. Arnav and I are not the a, b, c options present in choose the best answer. We are like fill in the blanks. We are incomplete without you and you are imcomplete without us.]

"You have become an integral part in my life and just thinking of staying away from you is frightening."

"Don't worry, sweetheart. I have been thinking of expanding my base in Delhi. Kuch reasons ki wajaa se, I stopped those ideas. Ab tum Delhi mein rehne waali ho. I'll start those ideas again. Jab mann chahe tum mujhse mil sakthi ho." [I stopped those ideas due to some reasons. Now, you are going to live in Delhi. I'll start those ideas again. Whenever you want, you can meet me.]

"Promise?"

He placed his hand on her head and said, "Meri Khushi ki khushiyaan ke liye kuch bhi." [Anything for my Khushi's happiness.]

"Waada?" [Promise?]

He wiped her tears and said, "Haan. Ab rona dhona bandh karo aur tumari Arnavji ke saath ghar chalo." [Yes. Now stop all this crying and go home with your Arnavji.]

"I love you so much, Siddhu."

"Main bhi, sweetheart." [Me too, sweetheart.]

A pair of eyes watched all that had happened during the past twenty minutes. Those eyes were filled with hatred. It belonged to Shyam.

He stepped put of his hiding place.

"I will get you back, Khushi."
