Part 10

Anjali came back to Jodhpur. She went to Hyderabad to attend her friend's wedding.Her husband is very busy, he couldn't manage to take leave for ten days.She entered to check her mother-in-law, she was lying on bed, the wheelchair was kept aside.

"Mom..."..Anjali called..

Garima opened her eyes, "Arre..how was the wedding...you called Adhiraj?"

" Let him come on his own time...you tell, how are you?"

"Fine..."..Garima took a pause..

"And..."

"Ramchand died two days ago...Khushi got married to Arnav six days ago...it happened on a very short notice.."..

Anjali got the point. Khushi is a very delicate nerve of her mother-in-law.

"You went there?"

" Hmm..they took our blessings..."

"Adhiraj...what is he saying now?"

" Things are getting better..he personally called Arnav to know whether shraadh and shantipaath arrangement are on track...or not,.if he needs any help.."

"What about Dad?"

" As usual...it's okay..you must be tired..why don't you get fresh..?"

" That is okay...but when will you welcome your daughter and son-in-law in your home?"

Anjali didn't miss the deep shade of pain on Garima's face. She shared a love and hate relationship with her mother-in-law. Garima never liked Anjali's funky lifestyle..she never bothered to be a traditional Solanki Woman. She has been married to Adhiraj for five years and she declined to give grandchildren to Garima till now. She finds the hue and cry of Garima about Solanki blood lineage highly melodramatic and irritating.

At the same time, she is the only listener to Garima's all complaints about life, grief, pain. Garima never hesitated to share the facts about Khushi.Initially Anjali thought that Garima is an obedient Solanki woman who accepted her husband's infidelity. But gradually when she came to know about each and every details about Khushi's birth, she realised that her mother-in-law has a broader mindset than the so-called modern people.Eventually Anjali accepted that Solanki family has two children, one is her husband Adhiraj and other is her half sister-in-law, Khushi.

" Mom..I asked you something..."

" She will not come..."

" She will come..you want to have a bet?"

" She may come..but from Arnav's attitude, I am getting a clear idea that he is not liking our presence in Khushi's life.."

"Please..I also know him, he is a certified sadist...nothing new in his attitude.."

Garima smiled...

" I think Mom..you want to meet Khushi..you want to go there? I will go..after all I haven't congratulated them..and I must pay the condolence ,too.."

" Right now you came back..go and take rest..."

" No..we will go..right now..I am sending the servant..she will dress you up.. meanwhile I will also get fresh...come on.."

" Do you always need to be that stubborn Anjali?"

" Yeah...see you in half an hour.."

Things were done in a normal way.Payal resumed her work, so as Ambar. Everything was normal except the relation between Arnav and Khushi.

Khushi couldn't find any language to communicate with her husband.All time, Arnav speaks and she listens.

" You don't want to come with me to Khemkaran???"

" Yes.."

" What about your work?"

" Why? Is there nobody a lawyer in Himachal?"

"No..but..your work is so set here..again there..and any other place..eventually I will get transfer..."

" Then..I will stay here only..whenever you feel like, you call me..I will go there...is that okay with you?"

"Yes"..said Arnav because he had no other option as he only started this discussion..

"Khushi..."...Arnav called again...

" Yes..."..

" You will not cut my phone this time..right? Like before?.."

Khushi stared at him...

" No I mean...I am not that disgusting , by now if you have realised that ...means ...you are not that angry ..with me..I mean.."...

Khushi kept silence..."See, I never talked like this..to anyone..means...Khushi..I don't know what to say.When I met you in Khemkaran...I thought, I will convince you gradually..I felt you are not angry with me anymore..but suddenly..and we got married.."..said Arnav and paused..

" But, you are under no such obligation to..accept me wholeheartedly all of a sudden...I know , you need time..actually we both need time.."..Arnav said.

" I am not angry with you, initially I was upset...but...I never thought that you are disgusting..whatever happened...we both were younger.."..Khushi said..

" You don't have to be that considerate Khushi..."

" No, I mean it...anyways..."..she rubbed her eyes..her eyes were red...

" I did not intend to upset you..don't cry..."..Arnav came closer...

" I am not crying..my eyes...I am consulting an eye specialist...let me take my eye drop.."..

" You sit..where is your eye drop..sit..I am fetching it..sit.."

He made her sit on the bed..found the eye drop in her office bag. Khushi asked for the eye drop.Instead of giving the potion to her, Arnav took her spectacles off, lifted her chin..carefully touched her forehead, and dropped the medicine in her eyes.

" Thank you.."

Later, at night, when Arnav was lying beside her...

"Khushi.."..he called.

"Hmm..."

"Is it still hurting?"

" No, it happens..it is normal when we need to wear spects...or power is to be raised of the glasses.."

" You power needs to get raised?"

"Hmmm..+3...can't see things which are near to me..studying without glasses are impossible..."

Arnav got up in great hurry..."Get up..please..Khushi..."

"What happened..?"

Arnav switched the light on..waved his hand before her..."Can you see me? I mean am I clearly visible to you?"

"Yes..."

" Then..you told..."

" Yes..you look a bit hazy..so looks Jijee...and everyone...it's normal when someone is having problem with near vision..."

" When you got the problem?"

" In my graduation days.."

" But..I look hazy...you will not have any problem to recognise me..without glasses?"

" That would be a problem if you were stranger to me...I know you for a long time...I mean...I didn't need glasses to recognise Bapu..or Jijee...it's okay...stop panicking.."

" Shall we consult another doctor..who knows this problem can be bigger.."

" Now you are irritating me..it's normal..."

" I don't find it normal if I look hazy to you..."

" Your eyes are good..if someday..I really don't recognise you..then you recognise me.Simple..what is main..recognising..so I recognise you..or you recognise me.. doesn't make any difference.."

" But...your eyes.."

" To hell with that..."..Khushi said and left the bed...

" Listen..I just meant..."..said Arnav but she didn't bother to look back..and opened her laptop to work. But she was having problem to see.Her spec wasn't there..

" I think you are looking for this..."..hearing this Khushi turned and her spec in Arnav's hand...

" Give it to me..."

" No..you shut down your laptop..it's 12 in the night..you are having problem in eyes...and you will not put any stress in your eyes...and you will come to bed now...you can get your specs only up to 11 in the night..after that it will be in my custody..."

"What?"

" I thought you have problem only in your eyes..your ears are in order.I guess..."

" You will not give me then..?"

" No..."

Khushi shut her laptop down..and went to bed. She was dead angry .

After half an hour, when she was sure that Arnav was in deep sleep and she saw her glasses on Arnav's side she stretched her hand over Arnav to get them ...then she heard..

" Don't even think about that...Army taught me very well..how to be full alert even in sleep..."

Khushi was dumbstruck..."You can't do this to me.."..she said..

" If wife is hell bent to become blind by excess working and excess reading, then husband has every right to stop her from doing so..."...said Arnav and switched the light on, again. And he looked at her.The shock was much visible on her face.

Arnav smiled..." Forget whatever my father has told you..that you will be free, you can do whatever you want..I never promised such things to you..."

Khushi remained silent.

" I know very well that something is going on ..in your mind, you are finding ways...but let me assure you..you will not win..."

Later Khushi found herself in his embrace while sleeping, and she didn't struggle to get herself free.Then she heard his whisper," You are very intelligent...you understand things very soon..."

Nice bond Anjali and Garima share. True meaning of being modern...beautiful. Aha...Arnav and khushi nok Jhok continues...that was cute..hubby exercising some rights..lol

Hmm, so Anjali is Garima's daughter-in-law, not a very obedient one though. I did not get any idea of Khushi's and Arnav's thoughts about the marriage and the new situation between them. Would be good if you can add their thoughts and monologues.

whats up with anjali? something doesn't seem right.

and what's adhiraj's ulterior motive, he must have one...
