Congratulations on the new thread ...

God ... Am in a trance myself ...

" She was caught now in a place that was unfamiliar in its yearning while most of her was still clutched in the grip of some dread that was novel yet felt ancient and loomed beyond like the shadow of something hidden. "
"I think I will follow you to the Land of the Dead if you asked me to."

Arnav's words chill Kashi to the bone ... seeing him in such a state of unawareness really gives her a jolt and makes her realise their vulnerability to natural and super - natural powers ...

There is a fine line between reality and mysticism sometimes...every single time I read a chapter I am convinced that, just like Arnav and Kashi, I am caught in between two worlds...

I'm sorry I didn't comment on the previous chapter - real life has been hectic! I will say that point of view and knowledge lend a great hand in breaking through the almost layered skeins of the myths of family history and superstition. Perhaps there is some knowledge that none of the characters are privy to that makes sense of Unni's death? Then again perhaps not...perhaps all we know and all they know in the house is all there is...??

I felt so sorry for Devaki. Makes me laugh how women with energy, passion, who do not bend to the will of men in a patriarchal household, who have their own mind and aren't docile are vilified. It actually reminds me of the last time I was in India visiting relatives. I swear they just could not handle me at all and I...well let's just say their attitude made me want to be even more outspoken, belligerent and rude. Luckily I was a guest so they couldn't outright vocalise their disapproval, but they were scathing. Thank god my Dad is like none of them!

And now Arnav...will he make it to the end of the week? Even Kashi has her doubts. She is an intelligent woman who knows the world in some sense because of her education to be able to work through that fear. But even she cannot help be mired in layers of ancient legends, magic, seeing as it has resulted (as the neighbours probably say and their father may sometimes think) in family loss and the accursed title of 'maneater'...My heart went out to her when she cradled the baby...

Here's hoping she follows him to Dehli and all this talk of the 'Land of the Dead' is over! Bring on Pallavi's veena lol - they all need a moment or two! 😆 Oh and Arnav and Kashi are just...hot! No other word for it!

I didnt think I would want to proceed any further from :

''She wondered if all women had foolish hearts that melted at such emotional drivel as a man trying to correctly pronounce their dead brother's name. ''

all the rains, and storm, and banana leaves and vines around the strangely sacred ritual, men and women loosing sense of what God must be .. and it has to be the upheaval inside him that decided that only what he didn't understand could numb him.
there's aching tenderness in Kashi asking him to leave.. and an equally tender hope, that the man with all his vulnerabilities would be the one to bring the soul of the place to rest.
the cold brought about from the rains, the wetness, numbness and fear was so real.. i can almost breathe it in through my skin.
you write so well.
