Its not that Life is simple for some people and difficult for others, life gives equal opportunities to all... some grab onto them and find their soul mates while some are too scared to cross the bridge... for those who do find love their stories are like sweetener enriched jalebies for the world...however difficult they actually might be...

FOREVER, maybe'

Chapter 9

K: "Arnav Singh Raizada, you ruined my life'."

A: "Khushi'.please Khushi'"

M: "Arnav just leave'leave I said'.."

K: "Yes'leave'leave 'you are leaving now aren't you'after ruining my life'you idiot'.you are leaving'don't you dare leave'.Arnav Singh Raizada'"

Arnav bolted out of the room and took in a deep breath.

'patience God, patience'..give me patience..'

It was their 3^rd wedding anniversary and there was a room full of people downstairs waiting to surprise them with a 'surprise' party. But the problem was that Khushi was totally freaking out and Arnav could not find a way to calm her down. He opened a can of soda to take a breather and remembered the last time he had surprised her like this.

It was Momo's parents' 'royal' themed anniversary party and Arnav had decided to make a day out of it. He had planned to propose her at the party. 'Was he moving too fast' or 'does Khushi even want this' thoughts had invaded his mind time and again but he had finally decided to do it and also because backing out had not been an option. He had pleaded, threatened and emotionally black mailed Momo to let him do it there and if he backed out he would have had air knocked out of his lungs yet again'he was pretty sure of that.

Khushi had entered the banquet hall alone after Arnav went to park the car and found it totally empty and dark.

'What the''.Arnav'

'Khushi'.'

She heard the voice echoing in the room and there was this projected screen on the wall in the far side of the room'and it was Arnav who was on screen.

'What's going on?...' Khushi whispered.

A: 'Khushi'I know this is all a little over the top but I didn't know what else to do and I really wanted to make this special'so please bear with me till I make my case''

clearly it was a recorded piece'.and Khushi felt a tight knot of apprehension growing in her stomach.

A: 'Do you remember this Khushi?''

There was a picture of a hair band on screen.

K: 'It was mine wasn't it?'

It was from high school. Khushi always tied up her hair and it was on the parent's day function at school that Arnav had wrenched open her hair from the band and run away with it after she had clearly refused to keep her hair open. She had been furious 'but she had never gotten her band back. She was surprised he still had this.

A: 'I had taken this from you back in high school. I couldn't convince you to keep your hair open that day Khushi but all I had wanted to say was that you looked beautiful in the sari'..'

A: 'Think while you see this'.'

There was a picture of a black eyed Arnav on screen standing in front of the principal's office. There was another kid in the picture. It had been taken by Momo, she had put herself in the foreground to make sure she could not be challenged of faking it later on!

K: ' This is Vishal'.isn't it?'

A: 'Remember this Khushi'this was after me and Vishal had fought'we got a week's detention each'. Now I have Vishal on skype'.he wants to say something''

Yes. Khushi remembered this. Both the boys were given a week's detention for fighting. Actually it was Arnav who had got beaten'.Vishal used to be a big kid for his age. But she had never known the reason for the fight.

There was Vishal on screen now.

Vishal: 'Hi Khushi'.This is Vishal...well its really weird seeing Momo on screen and pretending that I'm talking to you'but the girl has threatened me to knock my teeth out if I don't speak'..so anyways'..Hi to you'and you feisty friend Momo'never liked her much..or you or Arnav for the matter'but my teeth are under threat so I better do as I am said'just kidding'.look all I want to say is sorry for what I had said back in high school'. You remember the fight I and Arnav had...it was regarding you'I had called you fat earlier and Arnav had threatened to beat me up if I didn't say sorry'.I used to be an ass back then but Arnav really cared for you'.so that's my part'talk to you later 'bye'

Khushi was stunned. The fight had been for her. She had never known that. Why would he do that?

There were pictures from their childhood passing through the screen, one during the school trip to a wild life sanctuary, another during one of Momo's year end parties (which showed Arnav staring at an unaware Khushi) and Arnav was saying things but all Khushi could think about was that fight. It had been way back in high school. They had been good friends for a long time but was that all? Why would he fight for her? Was there something else for a long time that she had missed? Could it be that Arnav too loved her? He had never said that he loved her...not ever, not in the last week. Why had he never told her anything? Why hadn't he stopped her when she had fallen in love with that jerk Rahul?

She was lost in these thoughts when she realized that there were no more pictures on screen and Arnav was standing right behind her. She turned around to see Arnav kneeling on ground on one knee.

A: 'I love you Khushi'I have always loved you'I never thought I was good enough for you'I always thought you deserved someone better' I have always tried to put your happiness before mine and I have ended up messing things'.so for once today I am going to put my happiness before yours... I am going to be selfish and ask for what I want in life'..

You have everything I could ever want'. you speak to my soul like you have known it before'.. and I just can't stop loving you'. I can't stop myself now '.I am losing sleep over you and I don't know what I have gotten myself into'you just have something that I want... and I can't get enough of you and I need your love'. Will you make me the happiest man on earth? Khushi Kamini Gupta, will you marry me?'

Khushi had once asked Momo''When do you know that a man is in love?' Momo had replied' 'when he acts like a fool and looks like a donkey'.he is in love'

And Arnav Singh Raizada clearly qualified for both the adjectives right now'

K: "Yesss'..yess'yess'a thousand times yes''

Khushi had seen the lights come in the room through a curtain of tears and felt Momo take both of them in a tight embrace while she said ' I never thought this would work Arnav, she indeed finds your foolery endearing.'

Arnav had slipped in the diamond ring in Khushi's finger that his Mother had send him earlier in the day. It once belonged to her Grandmother, them her mother till she got divorced, it was a mark of being a Raizada and Khushi was definitely one now. His happiness was indefinable.

Arnav sighed as he came back to the present. Those were simpler days. His wife was now in the third trimester of her pregnancy. Men often say that they wished they could take away the pain, that they wished they could get the pain instead'it should never be mistaken for sympathy'it is a cry of desperation from being shouted at, things being thrown at them and being made a punching bag for all mood swings for nine months.

Arnav just couldn't take it anymore and there was a room full of people waiting downstairs to congratulate them for their happiness, If only they knew'.
