Part 48

Somebody clearing their throat made Amar blink….. he looked up to find Dharmesh leaning on the door, with his arms crossed in front of him.

Dharmesh- wow... she really does live up to her name.

Amar hung his head down again to see what was he staring at since the past few hours….. or was it the whole night?….. he realized it was the broken pieces of glass….. the one she had thrown at him….. he wished it had hit him.

Stepping inside, Dharmesh walked up to where Amar was sitting in the farthest corner of the room….. kneeling in front of him, he grabbed Amar's hair and lifted his head to inspect his swollen eye.

Darmesh- you have to go see a doc.

Amar- thik ho jayega.

Darmesh- jaanta hun.

He waited for Amar to say something else….. but Amar got back to staring at the broken pieces again….. like he was finding some solace in knowing it was not just his life that had shattered in pieces.

Darmesh- God dammit, Amar aisa kyun kiya???!!!

A loud clatter of some books falling on the floor made Shakti wake up with a start.

Kirti- crap!!... I'm so sorry di…… did I wake you up??

Shakti- no….. I wasn't getting any sleep…… you just scared me.

Kriti- sorry di.

Shakti- kya hua?

Kirti- mere room ka dvd player nahi chal raha….. so I thought main tumhara le jaaun.

Shakti- ya ok….. take it.

Kirti- would you like to watch the movie with me?

Shakti- no that's ok.

Kirti- it's a wonderful Hollywood flick….. a romantic drama….. it'll be fun….. please?... it's not like you're getting any sleep either…. its been more than a month you've been back from Pankti's wedding, but you've never spent any time with me (puppy face)…. And in a few days, aap wapas chale jaaoge.

Chale jaaoge... gone... why do these words hurt?... he was gone too….. and as Kirti said for over a month now….. ab tak toh she should have come back to the real world from that fateful night... she knew she should go see a Shrink….. and soon….. before it got too late….. before those haunting dreams ate her alive.

Kirti- Di?

She shook her head.

Shakti- (sigh) acha baba thik hai….. hop on.

She indicated Kirti to join her on the bed.

Kirti- (grin) great!!

Shakti- Muks ko nahi dekhna?

Kirti- she said no……you know, she's still mad at you for not telling her about what happened the other day.

Shakti- I know…. I can't help it….. I'm sure she'll come out of it soon.

Kirti- and you?... you really don't want to tell us how this happened?

Kirti pointed at Shakti's almost healed bruises.

Shakti- I would appreciate, if you'll would stop asking me about it again and again.

Kirti- ok….. don't spoil your mood now….. let's watch the movie.

She slid the disc in the player and joined Shakti in her quilt.

Shakti- what is it about?

Kirti- it's about 2 best friends in love with the same girl.

Shakti- toh iss main naya kya hai?... har Bollywood movie main aaj kal yahi toh hota hai.

Kirti- sush!!... no expert comments please….. just watch.

Angel- because I loved you dammit!!!

Mark- hey, what the hell is your problem??….. how many times do I have to tell you that I don't feel the same way about you….. why do you keep coming back?... doesn't he satisfy you well in bed?... Well princess, I offered to help you out the other night….. but you've always been the one with high morals….. never to disappoint your daddy dearest and your fiance ofcourse…… so why come to me now?... I'm the bad boy, remember?….. from the wrong side of the road….. you cant put your family's name at stake for me….. but if you're still open for that offer, I'm ready to help.….. David never has to know.

Angel- you know Mark, you're a f**king d*rk!!!... I said loved….. 'ed'….. past tense….. I really don't know why I ever had feelings for you….. and I have no clue as to why I haven't told David about that night yet and thrown you, 'his so called best friend' out of our lives….. and no, I can never forget that night….. I've seen animals more sophisticated than you….. thanks for reminding me about it anyway.

David- Angie, he's always been in love with you.

Angel- oh really?

David- yes!!!... he plot that night at the motel for you to start hating him….. he never wanted to hurt you, Angie…..I don't know why but love makes people do stupid things, just to make that one precious person happy….. even if it kills them to do so….. Angel, he really loves you…… He says he doesn't deserve you….. and I couldn't agree more, because how can someone be so foolish to let you go?….. just because he thought he owed me for saving his life back in college?... I would have rather let him die then, than see him die every second of his life.

Angel looked around, searching for Mark in the crowd…. Finding him, she walked down the aisle of the church to him.

Angel- I wasn't wrong about you, Mark….. you really are a big Jerk!!... always had been…… always will be... no wonder everyone in this town hates you……congratulations, you just ruined 3 lives!!…… you're damn well right, you don't deserve me.

She turned and walked back to David….. Removing her engagement ring from her hand, she tossed it at him.

Angel- thanks for all the fun boys…. But the game is over.

She walked out of the church.

David- Angie wait!!

Angel- for what???!!!... haven't you both friends played enough?

David- Angie, you love him!!

That made her stop in her track.

Angel- no David, I thought I did….. and thanks for proving me wrong that I had found love in you again….. from now on, I live on my own terms…… no one runs my life….. not even my father.

She glared at her father who was standing at the church door, before turning around to walk away.

David- Angel!!!... You can't leave like this!!!!

He called after her….. without looking back she barked a loud grunt.

Angel- watch me…..

And they all did.

Kirti- (frown) The end?... yeh kya tha?... she dint pick any of them?

But Shakti was unaware to what had happened in the movie….. she had stopped watching it quite some time back.

The line kept playing in her head over and over again….. Wiping the tear, threatening to spill out…… she heaved a long sigh.

Shakti- (whispered) he did that on purpose?

Kirti- (frown) huh?... who?... did what?

Shakti blinked and shook her head.

Shakti- nobody.

Kirti- oh well anyway, so what do you think of the movie?... I wish she had chosen someone atleast.

Shakti- toh fir sequel kaise banegi, Kirts?

Kirti- (laughs) ya true.

Shakti- but I feel she did the right thing…. She really doesn't deserve any of them….. yeh ladke apne aap ko samjte kya hai?... jab chaha apna liya, aur jab chaha thukra diya?... kya kabhi koi humain poochta hai ke humain kya chahiye?

Kirti- relax di…. Tum itna offend kyun ho rahi ho?

Shakti-hmm….. acha sunno... I'll just be back…..

Kirti- arre?... kahan…..?

Shakti- yahi hun baba….. I just have to get some facts right.

She leaned towards Kirti to plant a kiss on her cheek.

Shakti- thanks for the movie.

Kirti- huh?

Grabbing her cell phone Shakti ran out to the balcony…… while Kirti started after her….. confused.
