Self mutilation is a major problem with youngsters. I hope Arnav never stoops to that level, tho' i know in the state of mind he is in he cannot really reason out the pros and cons. I don't want to see Arnav lose touch with reality and become so weak. But you depicted the emotions and desperation very well.
