Part 32

Rathore stops the car infront of a construction company. Geet gets down from the car and looks around. She is shocked to see the nameboard, 'Khurana Constructions'

Rathore also gets down from the car and comes to Geet and gestures her to come inside. Geet is dying to see Maan. at the same time she is scared of Maan's reaction on seeing her. so she hesitates to go inside.

Rathore: arey Geet! tum yesa kya soch rahi ho? chalo beta

Geet: woh...uncle...i think we have to go to some other construction company

Rathore: Geet! Mr. Khurana is the right guy for you.

Geet's heart skips a beat.

Rathore: Mr. Khurana is a very nice guy. When i told him about the children's home, he has readily accepted to do the project. He is the right person Geet

Geet: don't you know any construction company in Amritsar itself?

Rathore looks at Geet suspeciously

Geet: woh...i mean...it will be difficult for this company to co-ordinate the project from Delhi. hai na?

Rathore: it is not at all a problem beta. Khurana constructions is doing projects all over India. they are even involved in some foreign ventures. Ab andar aao

Now geet has no other choice but to go inside. She nodes her head and follows Rathore silently.

Rathore tells the receptionist about his phone call to Maan. The receptionist asks a peon to escort Rathore and Geet to Maan's room. geet keeps checking the office while she is following the peon to Maan's room. as she is approaching Maan's room her heart is beating fast. She tries to control her excitement, fear, apprehension, anxiety everything. But she fails miserably. She didn't know how Maan will react. To be precise, she didn't know how she herself will behave in front of him.

The peon shows Maan's room. Rathore knocks at the door and walks in. Geet is too scared to go inside. Rathore didn't notice that Geet is still standing outside.

Rathore: hello Mr. Khurana

Maan gets up from his seat and shakes his hand with Rathore

Maan: hello Mr. Rahore. How are you?

Rathore: i am fine Mr. Khurana. Here meet Miss...

Rathore turns around to introduce Geet to Maan. he is shocked to see that Geet was not there. Maan looks at Rathore puzzeled

Rathore: arey! Where is she?

Maan: Mr. Rathore! Any problem?

Rathore: ek minute Mr. Khurana

Rathore rushes to the door and opens it. Geet is still standing there

Rathore: arey beta! tum yahan kya kar rahi ho?

Geet tries to cover up

Geet: woh..uncle...i am just checking this office. very beautiful office. hai na?

Maan didn't see her yet. But he hears her voice. His heart skips a beat. without his realisation he mouths her name, "Geet". he looks at the door

Rathore: ab andar aao beta. you can check this office later

Geet: nahi

Rathore grabs Geet's wrist and almost pulls her inside. Maan couldn't believe his eyes. when Rathore told Maan about the children's home, he didn't have any clue that Rathore was talking about Geet. Maan keeps looking at her without blinking his eyes. on the other hand Geet didn't have the guts to meet his eyes. she keeps looking at the floor.

Maan couldn't understand what he is going through right now. he is seeing Geet after 15 days. He was thinking that he will not see her until 11 months later. but now she is standing right infront of him in his office. he wonders what brings Geet back to him again and again...is it their fate or their love.

Instantly the words of the Newspaper company owner Mr. Sharma comes to Maan's mind, "have faith in your love. your love for her is so pure and strong and it will bring her back to you"

Two months ago, when Mr. Sharma told those words, Maan couldn't understand the true meaning of those words. now he could realise how true his words are.

Geet keeps looking at the floor and wondering how maan is going to react now.

Rathore: Mr. Khurana...meet miss Geet Handa.

Maan didn't reply. he keeps looking at her.

Geet: (st) why he is not saying anything?

Maan: (st) how did she come here...knowingly or unknowingly?

Rathore: Geet beta! he is Mr. Khurana

Geet didn't lift her head up.

Rathore is confused by the silence of Maan and Geet. he calls Maan little bit louder

Rathore: Mr. Khurana...

Maan comes out of his thoughts and sits back on his seat

Maan: haan Mr. Rathore...please take your seat

Rathore smiles and sits down. Geet is still standing looking at the floor as if she is standing in front of her college principal

Maan waits for her to sit. but there is no signs that Geet will sit anytime soon. Maan looks at Rathore questioningly. Rathore is damn confused by Geet's weird behaviour.

Rathore: Geet beta...come and sit

Geet shakes her head for a no. Maan rolls his eyes. Rathore throws an uncomfortable smile at Maan.

Maan couldn't understand what is going on Geet's mind.

Maan: (st) why is she behaving like this? is she feeling guilty or is she hating to be here?

Rathore gets up from his seat and whispers in Geet's ear

Rathore: yeh tum kya kar rahi ho Geet? ab baito

Geet refuses. Maan has lost his patience and he calls her in a stern voice

Maan: Miss Geet Handa...

Instantly Geet lifts her head up and her eyes meet his. that is it Maan couldn't talk beyond that. he is lost in her eyes.

Geet is hurt by Maan's words. she never felt this much bad for someone calling her 'Miss Geet Handa'. She keeps looking into his eyes.

Maan realises what he is doing. he breaks the eyelock and turns his gaze away from her. Geet is still looking at Maan.

Rathore again whispers in her ear

Rathore: Geet! it seems that Mr. Khurana is not as nice as i told. i guess he is very short tempered person. Now stop trying his patience and sit down

Geet still hesitates

Maan: i am not a Hitler. You can sit down

Geet again looks into his eyes. Maan turns his gaze away from her and says in a cold voice

Maan: i don't have whole day for you. if you are done with your standing practice, shall we talk about the project?

Geet couldn't believe herself that Maan is ready to talk to her about the project. Again she looks at him unbelievably. Maan is little bit embarrassed by geet's non stop starring

Maan: Mr. Rathore! Is she going to open a children's home or going to get herself admitted into one? she is behaving like a kid

Geet is provoked by Maan's statement. She gives him a stern look. Maan turns his gaze away from her

Rathore has also had enough. he again whispers in Geet's ear

Rathroe: beta! now stop embarrassing me in front of Mr. Khurana. please sit down.

Maan: Miss Geet Handa! Let me remind you onething. This is not a nursery school and you haven't come here for nursery admission. Am i clear?

Geet nodes her head in agreement and sits down. Maan is surprised by her response.

Rathore is relieved like anything and he also sits back.

Maan: yes Mr. Rathore! What do you want me to do?

Rathore: as i told you on phone, it is Geet's father's wish to open a children's home. When he was on his death bed, Geet has promised him that she will fulfil his wish. But poor girl...she doesn't have any idea what to do.

Maan recalls what Geet told him the other day in Amritsar, "i am a career oriented person. I have some commitments. I never thought that i would get married. Marriage never had a priority in my life. Till this moment, i couldn't believe myself that i am falling for someone. Now i am confused about my priorities. I fear that i will fail to fulfil my duties as a wife"

Maan: (st) was she talking about this commitment?

Maan looks at Geet. but she is looking down.

Rathore: Mr. Khurana! actually Geet wanted me to help her in this project. But unfortunately i am leaving for Australia next week. I am helpless. That is why i brought her here.

Maan keeps looking at Geet as Mr. Rathore talks

Rathore: i hope you will help her

Maan : won't she talk anything?

Geet lifts her head up and looks at Maan

Rathore: before her parents' death, she used to talk like anything. but after that...

Maan notices that tears are gathering in Geet's eyes. instantly he cuts short Rathore and diverts the topic

Maan: teek hai Mr. Rathore. I am ready to do this project.

Geet looks into his eyes. she didn't expect that Maan will agree to do this project.

Geet: (st) did he just say that he is ready to do this project? Hai babaji! mujhe yakeen nahi ho rahi hai

She is happy by his agreement. Though Maan didn't fail to notice the sparkle in her eyes, he prefers to ignore it

Rathore: thanks Mr. Khurana

Maan calls adi on intercom and asks him to come to his cabin. silence prevails there for few seconds.

Few seconds later, Adi comes there. he is so excited to see Geet there. he screams in excitement, "Geeettt".

Rathore is confused while Maan and Geet are shocked.

Adi: Geet! how are you?

Geet didn't reply

Rathore: Geet beta! do you know him?

Geet didn't know what to reply. she keeps quiet

Adi: i am her friend's husband

Rathore: oh..

Adi thinks that Maan has called Geet to office to talk about divorce. He points to Rathore and asks

Adi: yeh kaun hai? Advocate hai kya?

Rathore: what?

Geet looks at Maan and he in turn gives Adi a stern look. But Adi didn't notice it.

Adi shakes hands with Rathore

Adi: hello sir! i am Adi. nice to meet you

Geet keeps looking at Maan as if she pleads him to do something to stop Adi. Maan wonders how to stop Adi.

Rathore: hello

Adi: waise...how many divorce cases you have won till date?

Rathore: divorce case? Execuse me!!!

Maan and Geet both are shocked.

Geet's words,"Adi talks like a stupid" come to Maan's mind and he feels like killing Adi with his bare hands.

Maan: (shouts) Adi!!!!

Adi : (scared) ji...ji sir

Maan: ek aur shabd nahi. ab chup chap baito

Adi sits silently. Maan points to Rathore and introduces him to Adi

Maan: he is Mr. Rajat Rathore, MD of the erstwhile Virat Constructions

Adi smiles at Rathore and apologizes to him for mistaking him for an advocate.

Maan: Mr. Rathore...Adi is the Person In-charge Mega Projects. He only handles these kinds of projects. Hereafter he will take care of everything

Rathore nodes

Geet is disappointed that Maan will not handle the project. She looks into his eyes. But Maan deliberately avoids her gaze.

Maan: adi!

Adi: ji sir

Maan: Miss Geet Handa wants to build a home for street children

Adi is touched by Geet's plan and he looks at Geet proudly

Maan: now take them to your cabin and discuss about the project details

Adi: ji sir

Adi gets up from his seat. Rathore thanks Maan and gets up from the seat to go with Adi. but Geet didn't get up. she keeps looking at Maan. He notices her hesitation.

Maan: Miss Geet Handa! hereafter you need not be in touch with me. Adi is the one who will work with you in this project

Geet fights back her tears and says with determination

Geet: i don't want Adi to work in this project

Maan is surprised by her sudden withdrawl of the mauna vrat. Since the time she came into Maan's cabin she didn't say even a single word. Now only she talks.

Maan: kyun?

Geet: he talks like a stupid

Her reply cracks Maan up. But he controls himself.

But Rathore literally bursts out into laughter. Adi is embarrassed.

Maan composes himself and talks in a stern voice

Maan: i won't allow anyone to talk ill of my staff

Geet: in that case you have to train your staff how to talk to your clients

When Maan is about to say something, Rathore interferes

Rathore: geet beta! what are you doing? Mr. Khurana is a successfull businessman. He knows how to handle his employees.

Geet didn't say anything

Rathore: Mr. Khurana! i apologise to you on Geet's behalf

Geet: uncle...you don't have to do this

Maan gives her a stern look. Rathore looks at Geet questioningly

Geet: i am the one who talked to him like that. i myself will apologise to him

Maan is surprised

Geet: Mr. Khurana! i am sorry for whatever i did

Geet herself didn't know what she means by the words 'whatever i did'

Maan's heart skips a bit

Maan: (st) what does she mean by 'whatever she did'?

Geet composes herself and turns to Adi and apologises to him

Geet: Adi bhaiya! i am sorry for talking like this.

Adi: koi bath nahi Geet. after all you are like my sister

Geet smiles at Adi. Maan sees her smile after a long time...of course...very long time. In their four to five meetings, Maan had seen Geet's tears more than her smiles. Geet had cried almost in each and every meeting between them. Maan tries to recall the last time she smiled. He recalls how she was making fun out of him and enjoying herself when they met at his bedroom in the mansion. Since the very second dadi had mentioned about Maan's so called fiancee, he didn't have the opportunity to see Geet's smile. He keeps staring at Geet's face.

Rathore's phone rings. He excuses himself and goes out of Maan's cabin

Geet turns to Maan and talks candidly

Geet: Mr. Khurana! i don't deny that all your employees are talented. But i want the best

Maan: matlab?

Geet: i want you to work in this project

Geet herself didn't know why she insists that Maan himself should work in this project.

Maan didn't think that it is a good idea to work with Geet. He is not sure how he will behave when she is with him. not wanting to make their problems more complicated, he tries to avoid working in this project.

Maan: i am the boss of this company and naturally i am the one who is supposed to decide who should work in which project

Geet knew that Maan is deliberately avoiding her. but she is not ready to leave him that easily.

Geet: but i am the client here. i have the rights to demand for the best service

Adi is watching the arguement between Maaneet. It appears to him as if Maaneet are fighting like a typical husband and wife.

Adi: (st) hey bhagavan! Is this a domestic fight or business fight?

Maan thinks that the situation may take any turn. Not wanting to take any risk, Maan asks Adi to leave his cabin and the latter leaves.

Now it is only Maan and Geet. an uncomfortable silence prevails there for few minutes. Geet breaks the silence

Geet: Maan

His heart skips a beat. but he ignores it immediately and says in stern voice

Maan: Maan nahi...Mr. Maan Singh Khurana

Geet is hurt by his cold behaviour and she apologises to him

Geet: sorry

Maan: i can't work in such projects. Adi will work with you.You can leave now

Geet: can you explain to me why you can't work in such projects?

Literally Maan didn't have any explanation for that. but he tries to cover up

Maan: company rules

Geet couldn't help herself but to ask him

Geet: are you trying to avoid me?

Maan is shocked by her straight question. He composes himself and says in a cold voice

Maan: Miss Geet Handa. yahan professional jahan pe apni personal bath math keejiye.(courtesy: GHSP) Wohi sab ke liye acha hoga. Waise bhi... i am busy in some foreign projects. i can't concentrate in small projects like that of yours

Geet is hurt as well as angry

Geet: what did you say? small project?

Maan curses himself for tagging Geet's father's ambitious project as a small one

Geet: ab mujhe sab kuch samaj aarahi hai. being an IITian and a graduate of London Business School, you won't waste your time and talent in building a stupid home for street children. Hai na?

Maan understands that Geet is badly hurt by his statement

Geet: now let me tell you something. I will somehow accomplish my father's dream even if you don't help me. I will live and die for this small project.

Maan keeps looking at her blankly. Geet turns around to leave his cabin.

Somewhere deep inside his heart Maan feels that he should support Geet in fulfilling her father's wish. In reflex he stops her

Maan: rukho Geet

Geet's heart skips a beat. He is calling her 'Geet' instead of Miss Geet Handa for the first time since the time she came to the office. she was badly missing his possessiveness. Instantly she turns to him

Maan: do you think that i can work in big projects only?

Geet : i guess, that is what you said

Maan: i will prove to you that i can work in small projects also

Geet looks at him questioningly. Maan says with determination

Maan: is children's home project mein Adi nahi balki main khud kam karunga. Samji tum?

Geet is happy. she looks deep into his eyes and says softly

Geet: thanks

Maan is lost in her eyes
