CHAPTER 11
Young Love... Trampled!
'You know the answer' he had said before walking out of the room! She stood their frozen to her spot, as the pain of heartbreak crashed down upon her, and the past memories weighed her down. He had said, she knew what went wrong, but the truth was she only knew something went wrong, the reasons were unknown to her still. And as much as she convinced herself she had had a closure, even she knew she was only fooling herself. Why was she behaving in such an immature way with him? Why was she day in and day out professing her hatred towards him? Why was she affected by him? Who was he to her? A family imposed husband, and a temporary one at that! Marriage was supposed to be a lifelong commitment for her, and now it had been ridiculed into a pity contract. Her life was a mockery of her dreams. When as a seventeen year old young girl, her dreams had shattered into bits and pieces, she had been heartbroken.
~~~~~~~~~~~Past~~~~~~~~~~
Geet=17, Maan=19
Call her a smug, for all she cared! But damn right she was looking heavenly, in the light blue full length off shoulder gown. Her curls cascaded down her shoulders, with a few tendrils falling by the side of her face giving her a classic look. Her slight mascara accentuated her big round eyes, and the natural blush which was now creeping up her cheeks, as she stared at her profile in the mirror thinking how it would feel to have him look at her in awe, made her l0ok nothing less than an angel incarnate . . . Wait! Slight change there . . . HIS angel.
*****
She heard the alarm clock click and instantly a smile flickered at her face. It was time! He would be here any moment now, and they would for the first time go out together as a couple and that too in a ball. Fairytale! Her life was turning out to be one. She couldn't have been happier than she was at the moment in time.
Ten . . .
Twenty . . .
Thirty . . .
Thirty five minutes had passed by, and he hadn't yet come. He was so dead! Come on, late for the first date! Ok he didn't really say that they would go out on a date but he did ask her to accompany him to the ball. That meant she was his date . . . Well, least kind off. Regardless, she would definitely give him a lecture at punctuality once he came. 'Gadha' she muttered under her breath.
Another five minutes went by in waiting and eventually she decided to go to him. The mansion was just five minute walk from her house, big deal.
She then once again checked her outfit, making sure everything was in place and once done with that she proceeded out of her room.
******
She watched as he stepped out of the mansion, looking like a Greek god . . . With a girl by his side. Her hand went around his arm, while he walked towards the car. It took Geet quite a few long moments before she realized just what were her eyes witnessing. She was too shaken to react, and so she quietly stared as he opened the car gate for the girl. She bit the inside of her cheeks as he got in the car, going round to the other side. And as the car sped away, a solitary tear fell down her eyes and onto the back of her hand, while her heart gave a flinch.
******
She got off the bed as she heard him enter the room. She turned around to face him. His shirt was pulled out from one side and coat was slung over his one shoulder. He looked absolutely worn out. She ran towards him without realising it. 'Are you alright' she asked in concern.
She heard him grunt before he walked pass her.
'Why are you here?' he spat, stopping by the window ledge.
It was then that her eyes fell at the lips tick mark near his earlobe. All the care and worry now went out of the window, as she felt anger laced with hurt course through her, sapping out any rationality there was in her at that moment. She hissed, 'Who was she?'
'Nothing to you' he replied, whipping around to face her.
'Who was she?' she asked again.
'Get out of my room' he bit out.
'Is she more important than me' she whispered thoughtlessly. Ever since childhood, she had been his closest friend. She knew almost everything about him, then how could she not know the girl about whom Maan wasn't ready to tell her. He never hid things from her. She wasn't angry at him for not going with her even after the promise; rather she was hurt for him not telling her about the girl. Did he think she would stop him? No she wouldn't do that . . . Ever! Indeed, she felt for him but that in no way implied that he was obliged to feel the same. Besides he did not even know about her feelings. Then why did he refuse to tell her?
'Who was she Maan?' she repeated.
'Don't you get it once' he roared, 'Get out'
'Fine . . . Don't tell me' she yelled back, 'But I am so not going out. You want then you leave the room'
'This is my room if you need a reminder' he breezed, 'Mind it Geet. You're standing in my house, inside my room. Amd you may leave for you are unwelcomed'
'Unwelcomed' she rasped in shock, 'Did you just deem me as an outsider'
'You are an outsider' he replied.
'Since when' she mumbled.
'Why are you here?' he demanded.
'What it's to you?'
'Nothing'
'You could have told me you wanted to go with her'
'Oh so you here to demand an explanation'
'No I only want a few answers'
'I refuse to give any'
Geet chose it was best not to leave it at that. And so she turned to leave only to stop cold in her tracks as he spoke, 'who are you anyway that Maan Singh Khurana would bother answering you'
'Who am I' she mumbled to herself. Then she became violent as his words sank in and she thundered, 'Who am I'
'Huh Maan, you have the god damn nerve to say this! Was it not you who claimed me his best friend?'
'You were never my friend'
'She who was I?'
'Somebody'
'Are you implying that I am no one to you?'
'Does that bother you?'
'Am I really no one' she hissed in a low tone.
'I went with her because she matches my standards while you don't' he stated out of the blue.
'What' she mumbled in shock.
'You're not beautiful enough for me. You are not Ms Popular in college. You are average in studies and in everything else. You're merely any ordinary girl and Maan Singh Khurana Doesn't settle with ordinary'
'And all these years you were friends with this ordinary girl... Why'
'Why are you crying' he spat as tears ran down her face and she made no effort to stop them.
'Why tell me now about your opinion of me'
'Leave my house NOW and go cry in some whatever corner or better in the arms of some ordinary scoundrel.'
'Stay in your limits Maan' she shouted.
'Don't you dare raise your tone with me' he warned.
'You know what! Go back to your EXTRA-ordinary girl and yell at her or at anyone who would gullibly listen to your bullshit because I am not buying any of it. I am not some random girl you could snub'
'Shut the heck up'
'No you shut up'
'Is your ego hurt that I ditched you... that I chose her over you' he retorted advancing towards her
'Maan you're crossing the line' she bit out.
'I chose her over YOU' he rasped spitefully, as he held her by the shoulders.
'Let go' she squirmed under his hold.
'You are nothing without your family name' he spat looking in her eye.
'So are you' she bit out staring at him with fury that matched the fire within him.
'You wanted to go with me... Why'
'Because I love you' she replied, 'I bloody am in love with an overbearingly conceited brat that you are. Thank you so much for making me realise that'
'I don't need your shitty love' he huffed.
'And I don't need you' with that being said, she walked away from him, salvaging the last bits of her self-respect. That night the friendship which till yesterday was seemingly imperishable, ended right the moment she stepped out of his room.
******
She wiped her tears angrily as she pulled out her ear rings, plonking them onto the dressing table. Her hands went around her neck as she tried unhooking her pendant. Frustrated that the clasp won't open she tugged it around and brought in line with her throat. She looked at it, with puffed eyes as her trembling fingers tried to unclasp it. She sobbed haplessly, as her hands fell to her sides. 'How could you' she cried as she slumped onto the ground. 'Why did you do that to me?' she snivelled.
'I am not going to cry' she shook her head fervidly. 'I will not cry!'
'I am not that week' she whispered, 'I won't cry'
Her tears kept falling down her eyes, while she continued to wipe them forcefully. Perturbed at the defiant tears, which wouldn't stop falling down her now sore cheeks, she charged towards the washroom. Fighting back her sobs, she stood under the shower, as the cold water washed away her tears. But damn the warm liquid wouldn't stop brimming over in her clouded hazels. She moved away from the running shower as she stood in front of the mirror. And once again, as she saw fresh tears make their way along her cheeks, she rubbed against her skin in a violent assault. He was not worth it! He wasn't worth her tears! He bloody did not deserve her or anything that belonged to her . . . Not even her tears.
'Meri kya galti thi' a stifled sob left her throat. She gave up fighting as she slid down to the floor. And then she cried till her sobs muffled into mere hiccups and . . . eventually died out.
~~~~~~~~Present~~~~~~~~
But she had come through that heartbreak, weaving new dreams and hopes for a beautiful future. And now, even those had been crushed!
'Geet' she heard a soft voice. And without so much as a thought she threw her arms around the person now standing in front of her.
So sweets... Bring it on! Ah I am so waiting for comments against Maan! Everyone disliked Geet for being harsh or whatever with Maan (in present), Now what say people? I realise some of you may even want to strangle me! BTW there is lot more to the past!😛 A LOT more!
