Apologies for the late update, some people have asked whether I can continue writing after this ends - but I find it difficult to update weekly & I'm just finishing college 😆 Imagine what it would be like when I was at uni 😆
So unfortunately, the road for me as an IF writer ends when YTMQ ends

Chapter 19 - Destruction

Sasha snuck out of the room as fast as she could. Running with all her might, she scurried out of the house, casting a quick glance back from the gardens before escaping out of the estate.

Burning.

Something was burning.

Geet's senses alerted her to the strange, overpowering smell which was enveloping around her. Her eyes shot open, saw her wedding dress on fire & she let out an ear piercing shriek.

Her scream.

It was Geet's scream.

Maan tore the sheets off him & ran out of his room, down the dark corridors, throwing open the door to Geet's room.

His eyes widened in horror as Geet was sat in an upright position against the headres with her eyes flickering open & closing continously as the fire spread around the room, catching onto whatever it could.

Toxic smoke was steadily blurring Geet away from him, & Maan knew he had to get her out of there.

"GEET!" he called, moving towards her. Geet's eyes were half open, her body limp, she was coughing violently. She was about to fall unconscious any minute.

Madhuri & Yash came to the room after having been woke up by the smell of smoke & noises and Madhuri cried in horror. Yash moved into the room, trying to help Maan get Geet out of there.

The fire was in the far end of the room, away from Geet's bed. But they were aware it would soon catch onto her sheets as it was engulfing the curtains now.

Maan managed to lift Geet in his arms but was falling victim to the poisonous smoke himself & he was feeling faint. He staggered out of the room, guided by Yash who helped Maan put Geet down on the floor.

"Close the door!" Maan ordered, & Yash complied. Madhuri gave the cloth which she always kept over her shoulder & Yash placed it between the gap of the door at the bottom so the fire would remain inside.

"Mr Maan, the window will explode due to the flames," Madhuri trembled with fear.

"I don't care about the goddamn window!" he exclaimed. He patted both of his trembling hands on the side of Geet's face. "Geet, please wake up, please."

"It's all gone," whispered Geet as she drifted into a dark oblivion.

Geet blinked her eyes once, then twice, then closed them shut as she was blinded by a startling white ceiling, which was bordered with gold paint around the edges. The bedsheets were too soft, the atmosphere too alien.

Slowly, she raised her body, attempting to sit up, but a familiar hand & a soothing voice stopped her.

"Just rest, Geet," Maan ordered.

She turned her head to the side to find Maan, looking weak & beside himself, sat by the bedside.

"Am-am I in your room?" she croaked.

He nodded. Geet noticed his eyes were red, his face forlorn, his eyebrows knitted together.

She looked away, clutching at the sheets to prevent herself from breaking out into tears.

I did this to him, she thought, turning her back to Maan.

"Geet?" he asked, tenderly placing his cold fingers against her skin as he pushed her hair back & leaned over.

"Can I just rest, Maan? I'm tired," she whispered, her throat sore from the effects of the smoke.

"I'll arrange for some food for you in an hour," he said, placing a quick peck on her turned cheek & walked away, thankful she was okay after her many hours of unconsciousness.

Geet heard the door softly close as the tears escaped her eyes.

An hour later, she crept out of Maan's room. Her lungs ached, her head was pounding & she was so hungry.

But her heart was being pierced into with the thought that she brought this upon herself, upon Maan.

I must be cursed.

Geet peered into her burnt room.

I don't deserve happiness.

She glanced at the black burnt fabric on the floor which was supposed to be her wedding dress.

He doesn't deserve this.

She walked over to the section of the room which had been spared, thankfully it was the section where she kept a few spare pair of clothes in her small suitcase.

He doesn't deserve me.

Geet glanced at her reflection in the shattered mirror. A pale, ghostlike shadow peered back at her, making her shiver.

I'll only destroy him with the darkness I bring.

Blinking back her tears, Geet picked up her suitcase & turned for the door, when she stopped in her tracks.

"What do you think you're doing?"

The suitcase dropped, giving off a resonating thud.
