Part 5
All night Sidharth was thinking about how his life had turned out to be. He remembered the happy days when he and Abhay were humans; before they met Maithili. They were like two peas of a pod, ready to do anything for the brother. But that changed when Maithili came into their lives.
He still remembered clearly the pain he felt when Abhay started to drift away from him. At first he disliked Maithili for distancing his brother. He became jealous of Maithili and decided to break them up. He started to spend time with her for the purpose and was surprised to see that she liked the attention from him too. The more he spent time with her, the more he started to like her. He didn't know when that 'like' turned into 'love' or 'passion' or his 'obsession'.
He was now jealous of Abhay for winning her heart first. He managed to make Abhay insecure about Maithili. He tried to tell her that he was the better choice for her than Abhay, only to be rebuked. Then he decided to inform her father about her affair with Abhay, thinking that he 'll seperate the lovers. But to his shock, the King ordered her to be burnt alive. He and Abhay reached the place at almost the same time. But only Abhay could reach her while he was knocked down by a burning log. He could see Abhay crying over Maithili's body and understood that he too lost her.
But fate gave him another chance when the vampire couple Chand-Hasina offered him the life of a vampire. He readily accepted, thinking of reviving Maithili too. He saw Abhay being reluctant for the new life without her. 'What a loser ! Crying over her death instead of thinking how to bring her back.' he thought. They turned the brothers into vampires and took them along.
Later he had come back hidden and took Maithili's body to an old place and turned her into a vampire. He told her how he alone thought of bringing her back while Abhay had moved on soon after her death. She seemed to be easily convinced about Abhay's betrayal and his love. He convinced her to stay hidden till they gained enough strength to punish Abhay.
Staying with Chand and Hasina, it looked like he was getting a normal family life. But to his dismay, they were giving more attention to a "heartbroken" Abhay, while Abhay held him responsible for the tragedy. He felt insecure again and it started to reflect in his actions. He wished desperately for a chance to show that he was better than Abhay in something.
As time went by, he realized more and more about the power of a vampire. He searched for more information on vampires and came to know that human blood gave more strength than animal blood. He felt that this could help him show that he was better. But this led to a conflict between him and his vampire 'family' who preyed only on animals. He rebelled more and ended up getting kicked out.
He and Maithili went away, preying on unsuspecting humans, for many years. She had him around her finger and he wasn't complaining either. But he knew somewhere in her dead heart, Abhay still existed. He wanted to get rid of that and what better way than to prove to her that Abhay had forgotten her completely. He felt that it would serve as the best revenge against Abhay for being everyone's favorite.
He found out a year back that his 'family' was in Dehradun. He landed there in style, meeting Panchi on the way. He wasn't interested in her but she was fun to deal with. He had become a charmer through years and could easily make any girl fall for him in the first sight. So it amused him that she didn't fall for his charm in their first meet. Then he found that she had applied as his secretary. He had to agree that she was different from Maithili. While Maithili enjoyed his attention right from their first meet, Panchi wasn't flattered a bit. He had fun after a long long time, dealing with Panchi. Soon he found out why she wasn't impressed by him - Dhanish the "Radish". 'Silly humans and their silly emotions.'
He found out that she was friends with Abhay. 'What a pleasant surprise !'. He started acting more nice with her. Then he met Chand and Abhay one day at an auction. Their reactions were funny according to him. Only Hasina was glad to see him back.
He noticed that Abhay was worried about him meeting 'someone'. He even learnt the name - Piya. He couldn't understand why Abhay was always messing up his meetings with her. He wanted to see what was in that girl that made Abhay to finally move on. That would help him prove his point to Maithili. Finally he met the girl and was surprised to see her resemblance to Maithili.
He informed Maithili about Abhay falling in love with her lookalike. She wanted to finish her off but he stopped her quoting what he had read a long time back.
"If she drank her lookalike's blood on full moon night, she 'll get immense power to rule over the vampires."
Just the thing they were looking for.
Now his task was to bring Piya to Maithili. He tried to seperate Piya and Abhay by framing Abhay in murders but it had the reverse effect. He tried to make her fall for him but that "silly girl" thought he was interested in Panchi. He decided to play along, not bothered about Panchi's feelings. He made sure that Piya spent time with him to plan how to impress Panchi, which made Abhay insecure. The lovebirds had fights over it but to his dismay they patched up every time.
Whenever he planned to lure her away, Abhay always spoiled it. So he decided to expose Abhay's truth to Piya. But it backfired with Abhay biting Piya accidently. He managed to use the situation to create another fight between them.
Meanwhile he got trapped in his lies regarding Panchi. He was forced to get engaged to her in order to stay near Piya. It wasn't difficult for him to flirt around her, now that she had fallen for him.
But then things got difficult with Hasina interfering. He had managed to fool her into believing him earlier but his impending marriage to a human alarmed her. Then that Radish got involved along with Panchi's father. 'What a nuisance !'. He wanted to kill Radish but Hasina and Abhay stood in his way at different times. He managed to blackmail Arnab into silence using Panchi. But it was only a matter of time before he opened his mouth.
Full moon night came and he was successful in taking away Piya. As a backup, he made a treaty with the sworn enemies of vampires, the werewolves. Everything was according to plan but then everything went wrong. Right from Piya to the vampire trio Chand-Hasina-Abhay. Piya escaped from his capture, Maithili was exposed, Abhay killed the werewolf and a vampire hunter was after them.
The vampire hunter was taken care of. But he didn't expect Abhay to pierce his heart with a stakewood, without any remorse. He died burning to ashes, seeing Maithili screaming over his death.
Next was the purgatory. He was made to pay for every murder he committed. He could only scream in pain but there was no escape. Until now...
His mind went over what Hasina had told about Maithili. He couldn't believe that even after spending 200 years with him, she was only thinking about getting Abhay. Here he was obsessed about her and she was obsessed about his brother. 'How pathetic !'
His thoughts went to the three women in his life.
Hasina - the woman who gave him the vampire life. Who treated him as if he was her real son. She was ready to take him back after all his actions when he returned after years. Yet he used her for his goals, instead of accepting the love and care she offered.
Panchi - the woman who loved him despite his casanova image. She forgot her heartbreak in his company, enjoying every moment with him. She was fun to deal with, but he didn't think twice to use her or her emotions for his bigger plan. She was only a means to fulfill his plan.
Maithili - the one woman for whom he illtreated the other two. He was ready to sacrifice anything for her love. Yet she never loved him. She only treated him as her pet. She was only using him to get Abhay.
'Poetic justice.'
And now here he was, back and with a shelter, not because of the woman he loved, but because of the women he had betrayed.
'What an irony !'
He had to win not only the Dobriyals, but his own 'family' too. Family - It sounded so weird after all this time; after getting kicked out, after betraying them, after all the revenge business.
He may not be able to forget his love but he could help Panchi to move on. He could help his family to get rid of the trouble he had created, the werewolves. Where that left him, he had no idea. But he owed atleast that much to Panchi for saving him from the purgatory and to Hasina for hiding him from the werewolves.
Lost in thoughts, he didn't notice that the morning has arrived. He still hadn't figured out his course of action.
