Chapter 6 - Keeping Faith

"Interns," Dr Keerti said, giving one of her rarest and choicest smiles. "I'm sure you'd love to welcome Dr Armaan back to Sanjeevani." Riddhima nearly had a heart attack at those very words. Her head shot up to see Armaan smiling slightly mischievously at the shocked faces of the others. Wow! No one had seen that coming! Involuntarily, a smile crept up on her face. What had Keerti said? Back to Sanjeevani? Did this mean Armaan was permanently back to Sanjeevani? Yes, there he was in his labcoat, grinning at their stupefied faces.
"Armaan..you're really back? As in for good?" Muskaan squealed.
"As in till we all finish? Abhi rephrased her sentence, and Armaan nodded.
"WOWW!!!" Nikki screamed, then covered her mouth, almost knocking Dr Keerti aside in an attempt to hug him.
"Welcome back buddy!" Rahul exclaimed, and hugged him next, while Sid just grumbled,
"Haan, aarti uttaro uski. Jaise World war 3 se wapas zinda aaya hai." Then smiled showing he was just kidding around, as he welcomed Armaan back.

Armaan glanced at Riddhima. For the first time since he had come back, he had seen that natural glow on her face! And didn't she look utterly divine! He smiled back at her as he stared deep into her eyes, to find the source of this happiness inside her. Obviously, it was with his return. She looked away, her smile not leaving her face, after she motioned him to turn to face Keerti.

"Dr Armaan, just because you're back I don't expect you to take things lightly. In fact, night duty, for the rest of the week with Dr Sid." Sid grinned at Armaan evilly, who narrowed his eyes back and grumbled inwardly. Trust Hitler to spoil it for him! But nothing could take away the elated feeling inside him after seeing Riddhima's eyes shine like that. "Everyone else, usual duty. Dr Armaan, come to my office in half an hour for a detailed briefing."

Riddhima watched everyone head off for their duty and Armaan at his locker, across from hers. He was really back! Now she could sneak glances at him across their lockers, like she used to before. She felt her heart beat faster with this new sense of positive energy that was rushing through her veins. No, she shouldn't be feeling this happy! But she frowned, not wanting to let anything disturb this mood of hers. It was the best she had felt in ages!

Armaan was done rummaging inside his locker and looked across to see her lost in her thoughts. He shook his head as he thought whether or not she would ever stop day dreaming. He loved her so much! The entire day of his could be spent by just looking at her this way. Somehow, she still loved him. But why? Hadn't he ruined her perfect life? But clearly, that shine on her face on hearing about his return suggested otherwise. He remembered the previous night. Everything Nikki said was coming back to him. Still he couldn't be with her.

"Riddhima.." she snapped out of her trance as she looked around to face him. He stepped closer to her. "Tujhe duty ke liye daer nahin ho rahi?"
"Yeah.." she whispered and turned to leave. He watched her go from the locker room, and unknowingly a smile spread across his face. He was back! And it felt wonderful, truly amazing to be back home!

"Yaar, Hitler hasn't changed has she?" Armaan grumbled as he pulled a chair out next to Atul in the cafeteria.
"Haan yaar.." Atul replied, tired to the core. He did a double take when he saw Armaan. "Armaan! Labcoat mein kya kar raha hai?"
"Armaan tune phir se Sanjeevani join kar diya?!" Ajnali screamed with excitement, and hugged him. "Papa ne mujhe bataya!"
Atul, after hearing this and making sense of the situation, was also over the moon.
"Mere bhai!!! Amazing! Simply superb decision!" Atul knocked the wind out of Armaan as he almost wrestled him on to the floor with a massive bear hug.
"Haan..Atul..can't.. breathe.." Armaan tried to get in, choking.
"Atul get off him!" Anjali reprimanded her husband, who let go off Armaan immediately.
"Anjali jal ne ki koi zaroorat nahin yeh mera bhai hai." Atul replied casually as Anjali raised her eyebrows.
"Shut up Atul. Poor Armaan couldn't breathe!"
"Oh haan..sorry bhai."
"It's ok.." Armaan replied, a little warily incase Atul decided to jump onto him again. He finally sat down on a chair opposite him, with the table acting as a barrier just in case.

"Yaar, itne saare Doctors hain iss hospital. Lekin Hitler ko main hi ek mila hoon. She cut my lunch time in half thanks to extra duty!" Sid complained as he came and sat next to Armaan. "Oye Raj! Jaldi mere liye sandwich le aana! Aadhe ghante main phirse Hitler ke paas jaana hoga!"
"Kaunsi Hitler? Junior ya senior?" Muskaan asked as she also barged into the cafeteria.
"Senior! Junior ki itni himmat?" Sid scoffed.
"Junior..?" Armaan asked.
"Ridzy, aur kaun. When I first came.." Sid didn't finish before he heard Atul,
"Meri saali ji ko aise matt bulao! Dr Keerti ko kahunga extra duty de voh tujhko!"
"Yaar..Atul. Give me a break! Anyways, for the first week while I was here, I can guarantee you she never smiled!" Sid glanced sideways, to see Armaan looking down at the table, guilt and pain screaming out on his face. He tried to hide it but unsuccessfully.

"Rahul, Riddhima ko dekha hai?" Armaan asked as he looked inside the locker room.
"Haan, voh toh ghar gayyi. Duty time is over right?" Rahul replied, busy looking into his file. Great! He had to talk to her about her patient, Sara. The case seemed really delicate and they had to transfer her as soon as possible. Even though Sara wasn't Armaan's patient, Armaan had taken it upon himself to check her after Riddhima had discussed her case with him. He went back to check on Sara, who was awake. Thankfully, she was stable at that moment.
"Ridzy kahaan hai?" she asked. "I thought she was my attaining doctor." Armaan smiled.
"Voh ghar gayyi hai. She needs her rest."
"Wait, so are you trying to say that by spending time with me, she's not having fun?" Armaan frowned. Now when did he say that?
"Why would I say that?" to his surprise, Sara laughed suddenly.
"No you wouldn't. I was just trying to act filmy. Meri poori khandan bohot nautanki hai. Waise have you seen Rahul?"
"Haan, voh toh locker room mein tha."
"Rahul locker room main kya kar raha tha? I thought he's not allowed there!" she sounded aghast.
"Wait, which Rahul are you talking about?"
"Tch..mera chotta bhai. He's 13 years old. Uska birthday tha kal.But he went on some school trip and was supposed to return today. He said he'll see me first thing. Shayad Mummy daddy ke saath aayega.."
"Sara.." he sat down on a stool beside her.
"Bad news?" she asked slightly concerned. He shook his head.
"Don't stress over littlest things.."
"Dr..Mallik.."
"Armaan."
"Dr Armaan, if I don't look after my younger brother on his special days, who will? Anyways, who knows whether or not I'll be around for his next one? So I'd better make his present memorable."
"What rubbish of course you'll be around.."
"Don't lie to me." She blatantly argued back. "Anyways, why live in fear and fake hope? That way I'll never be able to enjoy life as I've always wanted to."
Armaan stared at this 17 year old girl. She really was special! Now he could see why Riddhima had grown so fond of her over time. She was so frank and to the point! He needed to be like that. Maybe that would cut him and Riddhima a lot of trouble.
"By the way, Rahul always wanted this locket kyunki it's got a picture of Mum and Dad in it. I could gift it to him. Oh and he loves chocolates. Could you organize a box of that? He loves Cadbury products most..but sometimes prefers nestle. Lekin usse Ferrero Rocher bhi bohot pasand hai. What do you think? Mujhe lagata hai.." Sara rambled on about her brother's likes and dislikes while Armaan could not remove his eyes from her. For someone who was really sick, she could still talk non stop without breathing? No wonder she was on a hospital bed!
"You know Riddhima still loves you a hell lot." Sara suddenly said, which snapped Armaan back to reality.
"What did you say?"
"Arre bhuddu." Sara replied, sighing. "I think you should go and tell Riddhima you love her! She won't say no, if you're scared of being rejected."
"I'm not scared of that. I just don't want to take advantage of her love for me. Anyways, I don't deserve it."
"Tch..I'm the one going to die soon and you're the one who's acting like your life is over! Who are you to decide what you deserve and what you don't? Believe me, accepting everything with open arms is the best life you can have.."
"You're 17 and you're talking as though you've seen the whole world!"
"Well, not really, but the parts I have seen, I have loved tremendously. Actually, I've always been protected and stuff by my parents, happy with the life I had. But here you are, sulking in your misery. Ridzy used to do the same."
Armaan's brows scrunched up in confusion.
"I mean, she used to be so happy before you made the huge blunder." Armaan closed his eyes. Even Sara knew about the 'blunder', as she put it, but close people like Anjali had no idea.
"Exactly why she deserves much better."
"Doctor, if she did, then she would have gotten over you LOOONNGG before. Everyone has their weaknesses, and you know yours. If you look carefully, you might see hers." Armaan pondered over what this 17 year old told him. She made sense in some way.

"Dr Riddhima there's an emergency. Your patient just had a major relapse."
"Which patient is this.." Riddhima asked over the phone as she quickly grabbed her bag and put her essentials inside it.
"Ward number 105" the nurse read off. Riddhima froze for a moment. That was Sara's ward!!

She rushed to the hospital, taking her father's car. The house was full again, and her dad was at home. She almost ran to the ICU as soon as she got there and saw that Dr Shubhankar was already working on Sara's case.
"Sir, how is she?" Riddhima asked. She hadn't had time to change from her white and blue chooridar. Heck, even her dupatta was missing. Her heart was racing at the thought of losing Sara. No way. This couldn't happen. Sara was way too special to be lost like that! She glanced outside at Sara's parents and her brother, who looked like they were hanging on the final hope. The heart and liver machine, which Shubhankar had just attached to her, was beeping as it was trying to do its work.
"Dr Shubhankar, don't we need to operate on her?"
"Haan, lekin it's a very delicate case. Chances of survival are minimal." Riddhima looked at Sara who was breathing heavily through the mask and quickly injected her to stabilize her condition. She monitored Sara's heart beat, and to her horror, the rate was decreasing! She glanced at her family outside and could see only one solution.
"We have to take the chance don't we?" Shubahnkar nodded.
"Payal, get the OT ready now!" Shubankhar ordered, and a nurse rushed outside.
"Any allergies?" Shubhankar asked Riddhima.
"Yes sir."
"Inject her with suitable anesthetics then we can wheel her out."
Riddhima did the necessary and called nurses over to wheel Sara out. As soon as they stepped out of the ward, her father came to Riddhima with tearful eyes.
"Sara..?"
"We're trying our best. Main poori koshish karungi. I promise." Riddhima looked around at each of Sara's family member, trying to get them to believe her. After she said that, she saw hope increase in their eyes again. Please don't make them lose her, she prayed within herself, to the Almighty. Rushing to the Operation Theater, she got ready and entered in moments after Shubhankar to assist him. She had to try her hardest.

"Yaar, Hitler wants to kill us from over exhaustion!" Sid mumbled as he looked at the time. It was 1:00am, and he had taken a break from being at work. He sighed, wondering if this was life, what kind of a life was it? Then again, he had it easier, as he remembered about an operation being conducted. It had been an hour and a half since Shubhankar left rounds with Sid, for an emergency. Maybe he should go check just to see how things were going. As soon as he got there, he saw Riddhima walk out of the operation theater, dump her gloves and clothes and rush past him. What was she doing here?
"Heyy..Ridzy!" he called but she didn't turn back. Running, he caught up with her and turned her around, to find her eyes moist.
"Riddhima kya huwa?"
"Nothing Sid."
"Kuch to huwa hai.."
"Sid leave me alone! Can't I be alone for a short while?!" she said, exasperated, and at that moment her eyes caught Armaan coming towards her.

Armaan had been working continuously for ages on end. He was in the general ward when he heard about the operation. Out of curiosity, he inquired further and found out it was on Sara. Praying for the best, he continued with his work. Obviously, Sara's transfer had been near impossible. To begin with, the costs were sky high just to transport her, and despite all that, Armaan continued to try and make it possible. But the documentation had eaten up so much time that in the end Armaan had called Dr Harold and asked him for the best advice. Buy time for her. Therefore, she had been on the machine quite frequently to prevent her heart from overworking. He glanced at the clock. His duty was over and at least now he could head home. Damn it had been a long day. Before leaving, he went to check up on Sara's condition.
"Dr Armaan!" Shubhankar saw him when he came out of the OT.
"Yes sir..Sara? Were you operating alone?" he observed as Shubhankar was the only doctor present.
"Riddhima was assisting in the operation. However, Sara is in a very critical condition." Just that line made Armaan's mind kick into 5th gear. If Sara was in a critical condition then..
"Riddhima!" he whispered, and rushed from there leaving a bewildered Shubhankar staring behind. He saw her in the corridor, on the verge of crying, as Sid was having a question answer session with her, while she refused to reply.
"Sid," Armaan came closer, took one look at Riddhima and knew she needed someone. But if Sid was there, then why was she refusing to pour her heart out to him? She stopped struggling against Sid and watched Armaan. He motioned at Sid to leave as she stared at them horror struck. Was she some sort of a doll that they had to come and take their chances to throw their pity on? She didn't need this! As soon as Sid left her hand, she turned and ran away into the first empty place she could see. The fire-escape.
Sid was about to go after her, but Armaan stopped him.
"Main dekhta hoon." In response, Sid just smiled and let Armaan do the honours. She needed him the most at the moment. Though he didn't know the problem, he was sure Armaan was the only one who could make her feel better.

Armaan slowly swung open the door of the fire-escape and the sight in front of him wrenched his heart out. Riddhima was gripping the railing with her eyes closed and her back leaning on it. She was recalling how much Sara meant to her. Obviously, the loss of a friend was difficult to bear, but being there and not being able to do anything about it was worse! Sara was alive, but only just. She was sinking at a horribly fast pace. And no matter how much they tried, it was pointless. It felt as though Sara had finally lost the will to live. If she herself had given up, there was nothing much doctors could do about it. And it hurt.

Slowly, he made his way towards her and was now standing on the same step in front of her. He saw a tear make its way down her cheek and brought his hand forward, wiping it off. Upon his touch, she opened her eyes to find herself directly looking into blue oceans which held so much care, so much love, so much emotion, that she would never ever be afraid to drown in them. Her lips parted, but words failed her. She observed him putting a few strands of her hair behind her ear, and her heart screamed out for him!

"Sara.." she broke the silence, finally saying one name which occupied her mind. The pain, the fear, the desperation in those green marbles that were shining with water, were easily read by him. He shook his head in response, trying to comfort her through his eyes. Swallowing, she closed her eyes, and leaned forward, putting her head against his shoulder. Armaan couldn't see beyond the fact that she needed him right now, and without giving a damn to a voice inside his head which reprimanded him, he put his hands on her back then slowly pulled her closer into a hug. Riddhima's eyes shut tighter as she felt what she longed for in ages! Nothing felt so right in like years, like this did! She felt herself break down in his hold. It was the only thing that could ever make her feel so secured and safe. Her tears soaked through his shirt and in response, he just pulled his arms tighter around her, showing her he was there for her.

She gripped his shirt and turned her face to hide it in the crook of his neck. Feeling her shudder in his arms was like torture to him! He wished he could do something, anything, to rid her off this pain! But right now, all he could do was hold her close to himself and promise that with time things would get better. They had to.
She was already feeling like a load was off her heart. Sniffing, she thought of splitting apart, but then the realization of being in his arms stopped her. So she held on.
"Armaan..she's sinking. She's given up." Riddhima whispered. "Isn't there anything we can do?"
"We've tried our best. You tried your best. Just have faith, she might pull through."
"But..that wasn't enough. Armaan, her family had so much hope in us!" Riddhima recalled the scene just after they came out of the ICU. She put her arms around him, bringing him closer to her, as though he could erase those memories by his mere presence. Armaan just shut his eyes while his chin was on her head, and stroked her hair. "I can't tell them Armaan! It will be too hard!" she said tearfully.
"Ssshhh.. Riddhima. They'd much rather hear it from someone who's close to their daughter, than a random Doctor. Right?"
"No, Armaan mujhse nahin hoga. How can I tell them she has less than 12 hours? Aur voh bhi kyunki she's surviving on a heart and lung machine?" He pulled her apart, and cupped her face in his hands. Bringing his face closer, he kissed her tears away, as she closed her eyes on the feather touch of his lips on her skin.
"Riddhima look here." He said softly, his hands still framing her face. She opened her moist eyes and looked into his. "You are a doctor. This happens. It's life. It's your responsibility to tell her family. And the Riddhima I know will never back down from her responsibilities. You can do this." The faith in his eyes for her gave the courage and strength. She had to face up to reality, no matter how cruel it was. She had to tell Sara's family.
"You'll be with me?" she barely whispered.
"Always," he replied and kissed her forehead once, letting his lips linger there. "Abh chalein? Yahaan chupne se kuch nahin hoga." She gave him a watery smile and nodded, letting him lead her out.
"Doctor, Sara theek toh hojayegi na? Paise ki fikr matt keejiye. Please. Main kissi bhi tarha dilwadunga." Sara's father came up to Riddhima as soon as he saw her. Riddhima stopped in her tracks, but as soon as she felt Armaan's hand squeezing hers, she asked to see Sara's whole family. They all gathered outside the ICU, Sara had been wheeled back there, and Shubhankar gave her the go ahead. She looked to the side, at Armaan, who blinked once to assure her she could do this.

"Uhmm..Uncle. We tried our best. Maine, hum sab ne, poori koshish ki. Lekin.." she looked at their faces which were prepared for the worst blows. Closing her eyes, she felt a lump form in her throat again. No she had to tell them. Armaan gripped her hand in his and urged her to continue. "Lekin Sara is sinking. I'm so sorry. She's..she's not fighting anymore. We can't.. do much if she's not responding to the treatment. I'm really..really.. sorry." It felt horrible! Seeing their hopes come crashing down in front of her and not being able to do anything to help!
"But, Doctor, kuch toh hoga na.." her mother stuttered.
"It's the 21st century damn it!" Riddhima heard her brother speak for the first time, in a broken voice, and it was not because he was hitting puberty.
She tightened her hold on Armaan as she saw Sara's father silently look through the window at his only daughter. He was shattered.
"Sir, you have to be strong." Armaan said as Riddhima clutched his arm and silent tears dropped from her eyes.
"She was my strength.." the man mumbled, broken at seeing his life lying on her probable death bed, dependant on some machine to live. "Can we go inside?" he asked looking at Shubankar, who immediately nodded and opened the door for them. After that scene, Armaan felt his eyes well up for the first time since hearing this piece of news. Before he knew it, the dams had broken and he felt his cheeks getting wet. He pulled Riddhima closer to himself. Somehow, they were each other's comfort and they stayed in that position for what seemed like ages, looking at the scene inside. Sara's family was broken after seeing her condition. So weak, so fragile.
"We should go in right?" Riddhima mumbled and Armaan nodded.

"Doctor, are you sure, kuch nahin ho sakta?" Sara's father asked again. "Main kuch bhi karne ko tayyar hoon. Kuch bhi.." Riddhima let go of Armaan and went over to him.
"Uncle, aapka bharosa tootna nahin chahiye. She might pull through. It depends on her. Please Uncle, kuch bhi hone se pehle aise haar maane se kuch nahin hoga."

Armaan stared at Riddhima. This was the woman that was crying her heart out moments ago outside! Why was he surprised? This was his Riddhima. His basket. For some weird reason, she needed him as much as he needed her. He was done trying to stay away from her! He would take things back to the way they were. Slowly be it, but they would be back to the way they used to be. And he was going to make sure that happened.

"Sara meri patient kum, dost zyaada thi. Usko khone ka darr mujhe bhi hai. Lekin humme himmat rakhni hogi." Riddhima held Sara's parents' hands. "Aapko thoda aaram karna chahiye'"
"Nahin. Hum yahan se nahin niklenge." Sara's mother announced and somehow, Riddhima didn't have the heart to force her. "Theek hai. Main kuch laa sakti hoon aapke liye? Canteen se, ya kuch aur?"
They all shook their heads. Slowly, Riddhima went back to Armaan and linked her hands in his. He smiled proudly and guided her to a sofa at the far end of the room. Riddhima looked at him. She didn't only have to have hope for Sara. She had to believe in her love as well. That love which would one day claim her. She had to trust him to always be there for her. And after the events that just took place, that wasn't a hard thing to do.

The whole room was filled with silence and due to that, the beeping of the machine seemed magnified to ten times. But no one cared. They each watched Sara, hoping against hope that she would fight. After all, faith was all they had to rely on now. Words were only voiced when necessary. Otherwise, the hush prevailed. Amongst the taciturnity, one by one they all fell asleep in their positions after the exhaustion of emotions that overtook them. Armaan being the last one, as he made sure Riddhima was comfortable lying down on the sofa. He sat himself on the floor and finally dozed off, with his head near hers and their hands still linked, for quite some time before the sun could break through the horizon and bring with it a new start.

4 real - Avril (Goodbye lullaby)

If I show you get to know you
If I hold you just for today
I'm not gonna wanna let go
I'm not gonna wanna go home
Tell me you feel the same

Coz I'm for real Are you for real?
I can't help myself It's the way I feel
When you look me in the eyes like you did last night
I can't stand to hear you say goodbye
But it feels so right
Coz it feels so right just to have you standing by my side
So don't let me go Cause you have my soul
And I just wanted you to know

I don't wanna look back coz I know that we have
Something the past could never change.
And I'm stuck in the moment and my heart is open
Tell me that you feel the same

Coz I'm for real Are you for real?
I can't help myself It's the way I feel
When you look me in the eyes like you did last night
I can't stand to hear you say goodbye
But it feels so right
Coz it feels so right just to have you standing by my side
So don't let me go coz you have my soul
And I just wanted you to know

Hold (Hold) me down (me down) Hold (Hold) me now
I'm safe (I'm safe) I'm sound (sound) When you're around (x2)

Coz I'm for real Are you for real?
I can't help myself It's the way I feel
When you look me in the eyes like you did last night
I can't stand to hear you say goodbye
But it feels so right
Coz it feels so right just to have you standing by my side
So don't let me go coz you have my soul
And I just wanted you to know

So Chapter 5 inst 1..I'm being too nice aren't I?? Giving you guys updates everyday..!! 😆
Chapter 5 (A) - Drama Drama Drama..

"Armaan puttar, aao baitho." Muskaan's Dad called them over. Riddhima came out of her thought. For once she had had other things on her mind apart from Armaan. Sara's condition. She looked up at Armaan, who was smiling hesitantly at Muskaan's parents. He looked amazing in his black and blue checked shirt. Just his arrival lifted up her mood so much. Then why couldn't she tell him what his presence did to her? She closed her eyes.

"Enough Riddhima!" She reprimanded herself. "He probably doesn't give a damn about you and here you are.." But somewhere, some part of her mocked her at that thought. Yeah right! After seeing the amount of care and love there was in his eyes in the parking area, this afternoon? She opened her eyes and looked up at him to see him staring at her.

Armaan's eyes had been drawn to her the moment he entered the place. Obviously, the tension of the situation was beyond his control, however, as soon as he saw her, his heart lifted. She looked breath taking (what was new?) in her green and white, slightly fancy, chooridar. It was sleeveless and had heavy embroidery down the front, leaving the rest plain. He could get lost in her forever. Feeling his heart beat increase pace, he couldn't tear his gaze away from hers as much as he wanted to. If only they were together. But it was now almost impossible. Why? A small part asked him. Because he wasn't worthy of her, came the straight blunt reply in his mind. And didn't that hurt.

Riddhima looked away after a few seconds of their gaze. She didn't want to be caught staring at him 24/7. Fumbling with her dupatta, she took out her mobile pretending to text someone, but the only thing that came in her mind was a racing game. Well, she needed entertainment, and here it was.

"Toh Armaan, tujhe humse zaroori baat karni thi?" Asked Dalraj, looking directly at him. Rahul was sitting opposite Muskaan and tried to catch her eyes to tell her not to worry. Heck, he himself was about to have a heart attack as he felt his heart beat rate increase by the minute.

"haan, voh..why don't we order first?" Armaan replied and nudged Rahul, while smiling at Muskaan's parents, to straighten up since he looked like he was about to wet himself!

"Tumhaara dost ka naam kya hai?" Muskaan's mom asked politely.

"Jee Rahul." Armaan replied sweetly then added in a small voice, simultaneously giving a fake smile across the table, "Saale mera plan chopat kiya nah, toh main sach mein Muski se shaadi karlunga!" Rahul cursed under his breath and then smiled at her parents.

"Main Rahul Grewal. Punjab se hoon."

"Grewal, naam toh sunna huwa lagta hai."

"Amandeep Grewal. Voh jo Doctor hai!" Gurpreet reminded her husband.

"Oh haan ji yaad aaya. Bada accha Doctor hai na? Aur uska puttar bhi Doctor? Achchi baat hai."

"Rahul, tujhe bukhar hai?" Gurpreet asked kindly.

"Nahin kyun?"

"Voh aapko paseena aa rahe hain."

"Main theek hoon thanks." Rahul replied. The others sniggered into their drinks they had already ordered.

"Toh kuch order karein hum? Waiter!" Dalraj called in a booming voice, making the rest blush in embarrassment as the other customers' heads turned to look at the source of disturbance. A waiter came rushing forward for their demands. After the food was ordered, they sat making small talk with each other. Armaan was busy having a question answer session with his potential in laws, while Muskaan and Rahul kept stealing glances at each other.

"Toh Armaan puttar kya zaroori baat karni thi?"

Armaan closed his eyes. He had to tell them the truth.

"Main.." he swallowed closing his eyes. Immediately, Riddhima's smiling face came in front of him. Opening his eyes, he looked across at her, and she was staring at him with so much depth in her green orbs that it pierced his heart. But it was as though it gave him courage to come out right and say it. "Main Muskaan se shaadi nahin karsakta."

Muskaan looked up at Armaan, shocked at this sudden outburst, as everyone else's eyes turned to him.

"Yeh kya keh raha hai tu? Koi problem hai?" Dalraj asked Armaan in a caring voice. Armaan felt his heart sink at that. "Paise ki problem ho ya kuch bhi, humko bataa sakte ho."

"Haan puttar." Gurpreet added.

"Voh kya hai, main..main..voh" and the stuttering and fumbling started again. Armaan get a grip on yourself and say what's true! He thought to himself. "Kyunki main..Muskaan se pyaar.. nahin karta." There. He'd said it. A shocking silence filled the table. At that moment, the waiter came with their orders. The whole table was silent as the waiter did his job. Muskaan looked up at her father, whose anger seemed to be mounting by the second, in proportion to the colour of his face. This was not good. As soon as the waiter left, Dalraj asked in a slow, but threatening voice.

"Toh tu Muskaan se pyaar nahin karta?"

Armaan found his voice stuck at his throat and just shook his head. Any guy in his place would be forced to fall in love with Muskaan then and there, else there would probably be murder taking place! Riddhima looked across at him, wishing she could hold his hand and tell him everything would be fine. She wished she could do something but she was tongue tied at the wrong moment. Armaan's eyes were fixed on his plate, but the fork in his hand was not moving. She looked at Sid in hope of doing something, but Sid looked constipated at that particulalr moment. What the hell? It was then she realized how hard he was trying to control his facial features to stop grinning away like an idiot at the situation! Cursing him under her breath, she looked at Atul for help, whose eyes met hers and gave her a reassuring nod, asking her to let Armaan handle it. Fine. She glanced back at Muskaan's parents, who had not touched their food as yet. In fact, no one had. Some just had their cutlery in their hand, and were staring watching what looked like a tennis match between Dalraj and Armaan.

"Toh tu Muskaan ke saath khel raha tha?" Dalraj raised his voice, and Armaan looked up at him in shock. What the hell?

"Shant ho jaaiye.." His wife pleaded him but,

"Kaise shaant ho jaun! Aaj kal ke ladke aise hote hain. Main pehle se jaanta tha! Lekin phir isse milne ke baad, mujhe laga Muski ki pasand itni bhi buri nahin hai!" Riddhima's eyes darted towards Armaan who was back to staring down at his plate. She wondered how he was taking all this insults thrown at him, even though he was not a fault. Her grip on her fork tightened as she felt her own anger mount. How dare they insult Armaan like this! They didn't even know him for crying out loud!

"Kya kammi hai meri beti mein? Main batata hoon .Kuch kammi nahin hai. Aaj kal ke jawaan ladke! Sab batameez hain! Ladki ko pyaar ke chaal main phasa rahe hain sirf raat bitane.."

"Papa jee.."

"Muskaan tu chup reh! Mujhe bolne de! Aise tumhaara dil tod diya!"

"Lekin.."

"Maine kahaa na." Dalraj stood up, and so did Armaan. Riddhima's heart was beating at a furious pace. "Pata nahin kaisi parwarish kii hogi maa baap ne joh itna ghatya ladka.." Armaan's face was filled with horror as it turned white. That was no way to go!

"Uncle aap ghalat samajh rahe hain." Riddhima stood up stating this fact clearly so it was heard. She would not hear a word against Armaan. Now everyone on the table was looking at her. Anjali was motioning for her to sit down and not get involved. Like Riddhima gave a damn! How could someone just insult Armaan like that! They were attracting quite a bit of attention thanks to Dalraj's loud voice.

"Kya ghalat samajh raha hoon?"

Armaan was staring in amazement at Riddhima, who was defiantly looking at Dalraj. She stood up for him? He felt his heart go out to her for the millionth time. However, a tiny part of him screamed in guilt. That was how much she still loved him and what had he done? Not trusted her?

"Gussa thand rakhiye.."

"Nahin! Kya chahiye isse humaari beti se?"

"Uncle.." Riddhima started.

"Tu kyun iski taraf daari kar rahi hai? Koi beech main NAHIN bolega! Ya phir aap dono..Kaisi dost hai tu? Muskaan ke peet peeche uska pyaar cheen rahi thi tu?!" The words came out louder and boomed across the silent murmurs of the crowd in the restaurant. Riddhima shut up, startled at that outburst. This man seemed to be flying to conclusions and enjoying the mount of anger he had pulled up on himself! But Armaan frowned.

"Uncle Riddhima aisa soch bhi nahi sakti! Aapko chilaana hai mujhpe chilaaye. Riddhima ko kuch matt boliye." Armaan spoke up. He could not bear to see anyone even glaring at his Basket. And how could Dalraj judge Riddhima on such a baseless argument?

"HAAN KYUNKI POORI GALTI TUMHAARI HAI! Kyun Muskaan se pyaar karne ka naatak kiya? Theek hai, aur agar nahin karta toh kyun nahin?" Armaan spoke up, saying the first thing that came to his mind.

"Kyunki main kissi aur se bohot zyaada pyaar karta hoon issilye." Riddhima's eyes shot to Armaan, while his gaze flickered towards her. The rest of the gang on the table remained silent, watching Armaan and Riddhima. They were both staring at each other, oblivious to the surroundings. Did he really still love her that much? She could see it in his eyes. Then why didn't he tell her? If only things came out in the open, making her sure of everything. Her eyes had so many questions behind them, but Armaan was unable to answer any. He wanted to name her. Tell the world that he loved Riddhima and only Riddhima!

"Papa galti meri hai!" Muskaan had had enough. Everyone turned to look at her. She was the one that got herself in this mess, and everyone else was being blamed for it? She knew her dad could get very hyper. But this was beyond limit! Afraid to face her dad's anger, she had been quiet but by shutting up, baseless assumptions had been formed in his mind, horrifying her all the more. No one could question others' character especially when they were doing everything for her good!

"Haan puttar! Ghalti teri hai. Jo tu iss NAALAYAK SE PYAAR KAR BAITHI!" Ok, Riddhima thought to herself. This did it!

"Muskaan Rahul se pyaar karti hai, Armaan se nahin!!" Riddhima spoke up again. What was with this man insulting Armaan over and over again? What did he get? Riddhima's anger had reached the peak. Normally, she was not one to stand up and speak out to adults like that. But somehow with Armaan she could not tolerate a single word against him. At least not in her presence. Dalraj's shocked face turned to Muskaan, who had her head hanging down.

"Haan Papa. Main sirf aur sirf Rahul se pyaar karti hoon."

"Yeh Rahul?" Dalraj's voice suddenly quietened down. Rahul finally stood up. After seeing Muskaan openly confessing her love for him, he suddenly found the strength.

"Main bhi Muskaan se behad pyaar karta hoon. Usne Armaan se kabhi pyaar kiya hi nahin. Naahi Armaan usse. Yeh baat sach hai ki Armaan do mahinein keliye Melbourne gaya tha."

"Papa maine jhoot bola aapse. Aur Mummy ji se. Voh aap dono.."

"Puttar tune humse jhoot bola?" Gurpreet asked Muskaan in shocked voice, while Dalraj seemed to have lost his voice and pride as the truth sunk in.

"Voh aapko meri shaadi karwaani thi, aur mujhe tabh shaadi nahin karni thi, aur mujhe pata nahin tha Rahul ko shaadi karni thi ya nahin issilye jo mere mann main aaya maine kehdiya. Kyunki Armaan toh waise hi Australia jaa raha tha, aur mujhe laga do mahinein mein aap bhool jaoge..toh phir maine"

"Toh jhoot ka sahara liye tune?"

"Papajee please mujhe maaf kardo. Sach mein meri majboori thi.." Dalraj looked away from his daughter, hurt at her confession.

"Uncle please isse maaf kardeejiye. Usne sirf apne pyaar ke liye yeh sab kiya." Atul spoke up, as he was the eldest of the gang.

"Pyaar saccha hota hai. Jhoota nahin. Aur abh maine naa jaane kaise kaise ilzaam sab pe lagaye, meri jhooti beti ke liye.."

"Papa mujhe nahin pata tha Rahul shaadi ke liye tayyar hoga ya nahin. Main khud shaadi karne ke liye tayyar.." Dalraj put up his hand to silence her, as a few tears fell down her cheeks.

"Uncle, agar aap ne Muskaan par shaadi ka dabaav nahin daala, toh shayad yeh sab kabhi nahin hota." Atul bravely put in, talking diplomatically. Dalraj looked up at him, as Atul's words sunk in. Maybe he was right. However,

"Haan shayad ghalti humaari thi. Humme isse door bheja."

"Aap meri baat ka ghalat matlab nikaal rahe hain. Pyaar sabko hota hai. Haan Muskaan ne jhoot ka sahara liya, aur nahin lena chahiye tha. Lekin agar aapne uspar shaadi ka dabaav nahin daala hota, toh shayad use jhoot bolna hi nahin padta." Atul reasoned, while others nodded and gave similar opinions, sans Armaan and Riddhima who remained silent and took their seats again.

Rahul however, got up from his seat and took a flower from the middle of the table. Everyone's eyes were glued onto his back as he walked around the table towards Muskaan and her family. Slowly, but surely, he knelt down on one knee as all three of them turned around to face him.

"Main Muskaan se bohot pyaar karta hoon. Pichle do din mein jo ghalat fehmi huwi hai uske liye main sab ki taraf se maafi maangna chahta hoon. Uncle maine kabh Muskaan se pyaar kar baitha mujhe pata nahin. Lekin kal, jab mujhe Muskaan ko khone ka ehsaas huwa, tab samaj mein aaya ki aapki laadli beti meri zindagi bann chukka hai. Kab, voh bhi aapko bataaa nahin sakta. Toh agar aapko aitraaz na ho, aur Aunty aapko, Muskaan, kya tum mujhse shaadi karogi?" Rahul looked directly into Muskaan's eyes as he said the last line. Silence took over the table. Muskaan, speechless, looked at her father who had a sort of weird, expressionless look plastered on his face. She looked at her mother, who was now smiling and wiping a tear from the corner of her eyes.

"Papa.." Muskaan whispered.

"Oh jee, iss bande ko kabh tak intezaar karwaayegi. Pyaar karti hai, toh haan bolde!" Her father replied with a hint of the old pride and happiness in his voice. The dams broke and Muskaan pulled Rahul into a crushing hug, while Rahul was knocked out of breath at this sudden movement. She started slapping him on his back.

"Oww Muskaan, maar kyun rahi hai?"

"Kitni der laga di!" she replied furiously. Rahul was amazed. They had only been together for around 4 months and she was saying he was late? Either way, he shut up as he looked at the rest of them behind Muskaan. They were all beaming at him positively after the outrageous events that took place moments before. They split apart and Rahul was welcomed broadly into Muskaan's family.

"Armaan, I'm sorry. Meri wajah se tu bhi iss jhoot main phas gayya." Muskaan mumbled, looking down.

"Haan Armaaan, Riddhima puttar. Humme bhi maaf karde. Naa jaane gusse mein kya kuch bol diya."

"Gusse mein they aap. It's ok." Riddhima smiled at them, thinking she'd forgiven them for they said about her, but when it came to darkening Armaan's character like that, she wasn't too sure.

"Unlce it's ok." Armaan replied. "Voh aap kya kehte hain, alls well that ends well!"

Dalraj and Gurpreet laughed. Dalraj's voice boomed over the crowd attracting more attention than they already had.

"Voh toh hai. Alls well that ends well jee. Arre, aap sab kyun humme dekh rahe hain." Dalraj called to everyone, who immediately looked down at their plates.

As no one had touched their food, the waiter was called to take it away and warm it up. The atmosphere settled down, and Dalraj was back to his usual joking self, this time making fun of Rahul, who hadn't the courage to answer back to his joking taunts as he did to Muskaan.

Chapter 5(B) - Drama Drama Drama..
"Armaan! Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!" Muskaan squealed as soon as her parents left them.

"Haan haan bass." Armaan replied, clearing his ear as Muskaan was hugging him. "Abh please aur museebat main matt dalna. Varna sach mein tumse shaadi karlunga."

"Oye!" Rahul intervened. Everyone laughed at that and resumed to their small talks.

Riddhima glanced at Armaan who was joking around with Rahul and Muskaan. That was what she had wished for right? If anything happened to them, then she should always see Armaan like this? Smiling lightly to herself, she averted her gaze away from him and started up a conversation with Sid.

"Riddhima what do you think of that girl there?" Riddhima looked to where he was pointing. There, a girl stood by the bar all alone in a short flashy dress. She had an 'all the single ladies' look, however Riddhima was sure behind that farce was someone else.

"Too desperate." Riddhima replied.

"All the better!" Sid grinned, and was slapped by Riddhima on his shoulder. "Ouch, yeh kissliye?"

"She's desperate! Look at her drink..or drinks! You deserve better."

"Agar aise sab ko meri side se reject karlogi, phir zindagi bhar kunwara rahoonga main!" Sid grumbled, still rubbing the place Riddhima had hit. "Aisa hai, ya phir tumhe mujhse pyaar hogaya hai, aur tu jalti hai main kissi aur ko dekhun toh.." Riddhima's muth dropped open. Surely Sid knew what she felt for Armaan was nowhere near what she had ever, or could feel for anyone else. She saw his teasing eyes and shook her head.

"Ohk fine. Go to her. Have fun. Acchai ka toh zamaana hi nahin raha!" Riddhima gave up and Sid patted her back.

"Don't worry, what about that one there?" he looked towards a group of girls who had just entered and were sitting together. He picked out one in a white and turquoise saree. Riddhima looked carefully, while a wicked glint shone in her eyes, and shook her head.

"Nahin pategi tujhse. She's wayyy out of your league."

"Tu bhi na..Armaan what do you think?" Sid asked as he noticed Armaan was paying close attention to them. Armaan glanced at Riddhima then turned to look at the girl, while a smile formed on his face.

"Nope. Nahin pategi tujhse yaar. Tu rehne de."

"Kyun nahin pategi. Hot hai, sexy hai, confident hai. Haan zara short hai..lekin chalega." Sid replied. "Aur main itna smart, cool.."

"She's too good for you Sid." Armaan said nonchalantly and had a sip of his drink.

"Nahin pategi? Abhi dikhata hoon. Voh 5 minute mein meri baahon mein hogi." Sid grumbled and got up, alerting the others, while Riddhima wished him good luck and Armaan gave him a thumbs up.

The girl also got up at that particular moment, while Sid made his way towards her. Purposely, he bumped into her.

"Oh I'm so sorry." She said.

"No I'm very sorry. It was my fault entirely."

"Really? How can you say that? But it's Ok."

"Voh kya hai, I go temporarily blind when I see a beautiful face like yours. By the way, I'm Sid." Sid flirted openly. The girl raised her eyebrows, seeing the hint, and smiled.

"Thank you Sid." She led him a couple of steps to her table and introduced him to her friends.

"This is Naaz, Tracy, Priya, Kate."

"And your name?" He asked as he glanced at Riddhima's calm expression. The next second, Sid's shocked face was dripping with maroony liquid!

"What the F***?" Sid shouted astonished, then toned down after getting glares from the people nearby. Riddhima and Armaan had been quiet spectators of this whole event, and burst out laughing when the girl threw her drink on him. She waved her hand in front him, showing him a gleaming pretty diamond ring.

"And MY name is Kripa Sharma, engaged to Angad Khanna!!" She replied furiously, waving her hand, with a ring on it, in front of his face. "Next time, be careful who you try hitting on, Jerk! Akeli ladki dekho nahin chalu hogayye. Naa jaane kahaan se aate hain, yeh sab anpar, gawar!"

"Hii Kripa!" Riddhima exclaimed as she came over. Sid frowned in confusion.

"Hii Riddhima!" Kripa exclaimed equally excited and hugged her, while Sid's eyes widened in shock.

"So, Kripa Sharma, soon to be Khanna, here of all places!" Armaan announced, making Kripa turn and squeal in excitement.

"Armaan! Wow. Angad would be so happy to see you! We still haven't forgotten our time in Lonavla, and he still talks about you so much! Lekin voh kaam mein busy hai, aur waise bhi, it's a girl's outing only."

Sid confusion deepened and he couldn't hold himself as he asked,

"Aap ek doosre ko jaante ho?"

"Tu abhi yahaan kya kar raha hai?! I told you I'm engaged, back off Mister!" Kripa answered back narrowing her eyes in anger.

"Chill Kripa. Akeli aayi ho, people are sure to hit on you! I'm sure you've met our friend, Siddhant Modi? Or whom we refer to as Sid." Armaan said, as he shuffled himself next to Riddhima. It was Kripa's turn to be shocked.

"Yeh tumhaara dost hai? Oh my God. I'm really sorry! Please mujhe maaf kardo. You should have told me that you're their friend. Shayad thoda chillati. Lekin I wouldn't have spilt that drink on you." Sid wiped his face with a handkerchief.

"Dost nahin. Inn dono ka dushman lagta hoon!" He grumbled, glaring at them.

"Heyy we warned you. Kaha na tujhse nahin pategi." Riddhima replied still giggling. Armaan and Kripa laughed along with her. "He fell completely into it." Riddhima and Armaan hi-fived at their victory, still laughing with each other. Out of habit, Armaan put his arm around her waist and brought her closer to him. Riddhima felt the touch and shivered as her smile faltered. Being brought closer to him quickened her heartbeat. She looked at Armaan. Armaan however hadn't noticed anything and was still laughing at Sid's grumbling and complaining face. So she let his arm remain there. It felt so natural!

"Sid, main koi setting karwaleti, lekin everyone here is booked." Kripa was telling Sid, who smiled good naturedly and sighed at his luck. He excused himself, to go clean up and Kripa turned to the two.

"Waise, Angad and I are getting married in 3 weeks!" Kripa couldn't contain her excitement. "Shaadi Bangalore main hai kyunki main vahaan se hoon. So please do come if you can! Jaanti hoon, Doctors hain aap dono and what not. But please do try! Invitation toh mill gayaa hoga na? It would mean a lot to us!"

"I don't know, kaam bohot hai. But we'll see."

"So still together? When's the engagement ceremony?" Kripa asked, teasing them. Armaan realized where his hand was and was about to withdraw it, when Riddhima held it there, automatically. She smiled her brightest smile and replied,

"Don't know about the engagement yet." Armaan looked at her shocked. She was blatantly lying by indicating they were still together! He was left speechless.

"Invite toh karoge na?" Kripa joked and both laughed, while Riddhima nodded.

"Achcha..humme chalna chahiye. Say hi to Angad from us." Armaan said finally ending the conversation and almost dragging Riddhima away. She frowned as he turned them away from their table and took her to a far end.

"Armaan.."

"Riddhima yeh kya keh rahi thi?" Riddhima realized what it was all about.

"Uhmm..voh Armaan..main .. it was" she paused, sighing deeply. "I don't know." She finally ended up saying, burying her head in her hands.

"Riddhima kab tak aise sab ko jhoot bolti rahogi?" he asked tenderly. "Ek na ek din in sab ko sacchai pata chaljaayega!"

"Kaise?" she defied him.

"How about, when we don't actually get married?!" he asked and her face fell instantly, but she hardened her features. He realized what effect those words had on her but didn't regret it. Not this time. She couldn't get married to him. She deserved better. "Why have you hidden the truth from Anjali? Why haven't you told Muskaan? Why didn't you tell Kripa the truth, or at least let me tell her?"

Riddhima felt a surge of anger go through her. He didn't know what it was like! Having all those hopes, all those dreams, everything, shattering in front of your eyes! Did he really know what it was like spending 2 months away from someone he loved? If he did, then why the hell was he asking her these questions? Why was she supposed to be the one to tell everyone everything?!

"Why Riddhima? It's going to be worse when they actually find out.."

"It was hard Armaan!" she almost shouted. "By the way, I wasn't the one who put your arm round my waist the first time. Don't you think that gave her a big clue? Plus, I don't know what guys talk about, but two girls, madly in love, talk about their future whenever they're together! That was what me and Kripa talked about in Lonavla whenever we went for those small coffee breaks. And I.." she looked down as she toned her voice down. "I talked about US Armaan. My dreams.. with you! My future, the way I saw it!" Armaan shut up as he stared at her. Her eyes were fixed on the ground beneath them and he wanted to pull her into a hug and promise her a lifetime of happiness! But he couldn't. He just couldn't. He looked down at his fists which were clenched, to stop himself from holding her. She looked back up at him with undefying coldness in her eyes.

"It's easy isn't it? Staying here and answering people's never ending questions!" she asked sarcastically. "Wait, you wouldn't know. After all, you ran away! Watching people smother you with pitying looks is not my cup of tea Armaan! Hence I didn't tell Kripa the truth!"

"Riddhima.." Armaan was speechless.

"Leave me alone Armaan." Was the blunt reply.

"No. Basket..I .." He desperately wanted to tell her his feelings.

"Armaan please! Don't make me hate you any more than I already do. Just let me be!"

After hearing that, the words that were in his mouth were swallowed in a second.

"Riddhima.."

"Please Armaan.." she begged, and he finally nodded and stepped away, making sure to keep an eye on her. When he was a good distance away, she whispered,

"Because I still had hope Armaan. For you and me. But you didn't spare that either."

Regaining herself, she took a deep breath and caught up with Armaan as they silently made their way to the table. They saw Sid talking with Abhi and Nikki. The others had gone to the dance floor and were dancing slowly.

"Finally aap dono aagye! Kahan they?" Sid demanded. "By the way, I'm still pissed off! I expect a million hugs and gifts from you guys to make up for hiding the truth from me!"

Both smiled appreciatively at Sid's baby talk as they sat down.

"Yaar, abh mujhe samaj main aaya Muskaan itni filmy kyun hai!" Nikki exclaimed.

"Arre yaar baap aisa hoga toh beti kaisi niklegi? Over reacting and jumping to conclusions at littlest situations!" Abhi replied making them laugh.

The music changed and Muskaan and Rahul came and sat down, still clearly over the moon about their marriage. Dalraj and Gurpreet had already re-instilled their conditions before they left. To get a court marriage done ASAP. Sid winked at Nikki and asked Riddhima for a dance. Armaan felt his heart pierce with arrows at that vision. Riddhima, after a small glance at Armaan, politely refused but Sid pulled her along with Abhi. Nikki asked Armaan to help her make Abhi jealous, and he led her to the dance floor.

Aaj din chadeya from Love Aaj Kal had just started and couples were mainly on the floor dancing to this slow, romantic beat.

During the introduction, Abhi danced with Riddhima slowly and talked non stop about everything. All Riddhima had to do was smile back and agree with him. She got bored all too quickly and concentrated on the lyrics and the beat of the song instead.

Phul sa hai khila Aaj din

Rabba mere din yeh na dhale

Woh jo mujhe khawab mein mile

Use tu lagaade abb gale

Tenu Dil da Vasta

Nikki was dancing with Armaan, and Armaan didn't bother keeping up with the conversation. He looked over at Riddhima who looked lost in some space barely paying attention to Abhi's on going mouth.

Rabba aaya dar de yaar de

Sara jahan chod chad ke

Mere sapne sawar de

Tennu dil da vasta

Armaan stopped paying attention to the song and continued looking at Riddhima. He stared at her facial features that were quite a distance away from him, having the sudden urge to go and touch them. Nikki clicked her fingers in front of him and he came out of his trance.

Baksha gunaho ko

Sun ke duwao ko He watched the exchange between Abhi and Sid take place

Rabba Pyaar hai Muskaan and Rahul were back on the dance floor lost into each other, as Armaan watched them

Tune sab ko hi de diya

Meri bhi aahon ko He glanced at Riddhima

Sun le duwao ko She was smiling half heartedly at Sid's chatter

Mujhko woh dila mene jisko hai dil diya Her gaze suddenly met his, and their eyes fixed on each other

Aasmaan pe aasmaan usko de itna bata

Woh jo mujhe dekh ke hase She looked away from him, afraid of the slight lump that was forming in her throat

Pana chahun Raat din jise But he could not remove his gaze from her

Rabba mere naam kar use

Tenu Dil da Vasta

"Agar tu usse itna pyaar karta hai toh kehta kyun nahin?" Nikki suddenly, bringing him back to Earth as he realized his gaze had drawn back towards her.

"I can't.."

"Kyun?"

"She deserves better. Aur voh mujhse nafrat karti hai." Was his simply reply to which Nikki scoffed at.

"That's impossible! Voh kabhi tujhse nafrat nahin kar sakti." Armaan looked at her slightly confused.

"She told me she hates me a little while ago. So your match making skills won't come in useful."

"Armaan, kehne mein aur mehsoos karne main bohot fark hota hai. I was here for the two months you were in Australia. Even though I know why you guys broke up - and trust me I wanted to murder you for being such a dimwit! - I never saw her talk about it at all. And no one else knows, otherwise they'd all be talking about it. Except I think Sid and Rahul. She just pressed it inside herself and changed completely."

"What do you mean?" Armaan asked, concerned.

"She used to be so happy, so free, when you guys were together. But when you left, she sort of.." Nikki sighed trying to find the right words to describe Riddhima's condition. "..Retreated into this self made shell that no one could get her out of. Hardly laughing or smiling." Armaan glanced at Riddhima again and saw her laugh at one of Sid's stupid jokes. "Oh, when Sid came, she used to hate him. Well hate is a strong word, dislike him."

"Kyun..?" Nikki smiled as she had the perfect answer to that question.

"His antics and behaviour were like yours completely."

"You see, she even hates anything that reminds her of me. I don't blame her." He said quietly, but Nikki shook her head.

"You're getting it wrong! She used to hate him because yes, voh tumhaari tarha hai, but then he wasn't you!"

"I still don't get you."

"He wasn't you Armaan. She wanted to see you! Talk to you..be with you. But all she had was a replica of you! Phir apparently after their trip to Lonavla they became good friends after she split her heart out to him."

"How..how do you know all this?" Armaan asked flabbergasted as he made sense of Nikki's words. Nikki looked away, slightly ashamed of herself.

"Voh..mujhe..Anjali ne bataya tha. She came across Ridzy's diary."

"She read her diary?! That's supposed to be personal!" Armaan exclaimed, as though they had opened his diary. Not that he had one, but..well. It was Basket's stuff!

Before they knew it, the song was over and people were heading back to their tables. Armaan looked around for Riddhima, but she wasn't there. She had probably gone to the bathroom. When he got there, Sid was talking to Anjali and Nikki interfered.

"Anjy do you have Ridzy's diary?" Anjali almost spit out her drink, and gave Nikki a 'SHUT THE HELL UP' look!

"It's important. Iss gadhe ko kuch samjhana hai!"

"Tap it Nikki! Gadha hai yeh bilkul!" Sid replied, guffawing with laughter, and holding his hand out for a high five. Nikki looked skeptically at it then at Sid, whose smile was wiped off as he put his hand down without another word and looked away.

"Oye chup reh! Nikki I'm not going to read anyone's diary!" Armaan announced.

"Lekin.."

"No!" Armaan put his foot down and refused to listen.

"I wouldn't even give it to him. Anyways, it's in her room." Anjali replied. "Aap dono ke beech chal kya raha hai?"

"Nothing Anji." Armaan replied honestly. Anjali looked like she was about to argue, but thought better of it as she saw Riddhima heading to the table.

"Armaan can you drop Riddhima please?" Anjali asked purposely as soon as they were out of the restaurant. Riddhima's eyes shot to Anjali, who busy searching in her hand bag for her mobile. How could her own sister set her up like that?! That was outrageous! If she got her hands on Anjali, alone, murder would be an understatement of what she would do to her! How much more awkward would things get between them? A car would be the first thing she would beg her dad for as soon as her Mom agreed! At least she didn't to beg for rides from people. She glanced at Armaan who was staring at Anjali.

Was Anjali barking? Why would she send Riddhima with him? Anjali gave him a 'sort it out' look and dragged Atul into their car after their choruses of goodbyes. Rahul, Muskaan, Nikki and Sid left in Abhi's car (showing it was full) which left Riddhima and Armaan alone. Armaan went towards the passenger seats and held the door open for her, gazing intently and trying to meet her eyes. She got in without looking at him. It was one of those habits of his that she loved immensely, but now it hurt too much.

"AC?" he asked as soon as he got into the car.

"Tumhaari gadi hai." She replied. He remembered the days when she would act like she owned everything of his. Nodding, he switched it on but at its minimum. She looked outside for the rest of their journey home. She could feel her heart beating at a faster pace than normal. She wanted to talk things out with him. She wanted to ask him what he meant when he said he loved someone else, to Dalraj. She wanted him to tell her he still loved HER! She wanted him to apologize for the way he behaved after their meeting with Kripa. She was sure she would tell him the real reason behind not telling Kripa the truth, if only he told her he still loved her. If only he would express his heart to her! She wanted to tell him how much she had missed him..but she shut up. It wasn't like her to act on her heart. Especially when she felt that her heart was weak. Especially when she thought she was wrong in the way she felt.

Thanking him, she walked inside her house, without looking back. Each step was torture. What would happen if she just told him? Just that once? Her heart was beating wildly. Would she ever get over him? Then again, did she want to? She looked under her pillow for their photo. Sure enough, there it was. Clutching it, she hoped against hope that those days would return. What was wrong in having faith? After all, that was all she had for now.

Armaan sighed as he drove on. He was sure she had a million questions to ask. Heck, he had seen them in her eyes! But could he answer them? When she had been in the car he had wanted to hold her hand, caress her face, tell her how much he loved her, how he had changed so much thanks to her, how it was so bloody difficult having a distance of miles between them. Tu jaane na, which was playing on the radio reflected his situation perfectly. He wished he would come out of his guilt and be able to embrace her. But damn, her life was perfect before he entered it. He had ruined her life. Or so you think, a small voice replied. Damn, he banged his hand on the steering wheel. Why was everything so complicated?

Anyways, tomorrow would be his first day back, in Sanjeevani. And he had to prepare himself for Keerti. Unknowingly, a small smile made its way onto his face. Things had to get better one day wouldn't they? After all, he thought to himself, a storm never lasted forever. Even if he lost his Riddhima for good? He did not have an answer to that question.

NOTE:
Hi guys..this is a note to everyone who's waiting for an update soonish..
I'm touched that you guys really adore my fanfiction, that it makes you (quote) greedy for updates..!! 😆 But I'm leaving tomorrow on my holiday..and I KNOW it's a short notice but I myself couldn't help it. See it was very undecided..a maybe..so I didn't think I should inform you guys too soon..incase it doesn't happen and I'm stuck at home..🤢 But now it's confirmed, like 99% unless something MAJOR happens obviously..(Please don't pray for it Coz I've been looking to get out of my home town for AGES 😆 and something major also normally means something Sad..so please don't pray for that..I love my happy go lucky life so far..😊)
So basically..uhmm..That means, no updates for like a month..I'll try and look for ways around it..and maybe give you guys chottu sa installments..like once in two weeks, that is if I can hold of a laptop or a pc without people looking over my back..(Trust me NO ONE I know knows about me writing fanfictions..) for a good time..like an hour or two with internet to post it up for you guys...because yes..even installments take hours to write up..especially for someone like me who loves everything to be to the best of my ability..
So I'm extremley sorry to make you guys have to wait for so long. I thought it'd be in a few days ..but it turned out tomorrow..so I have quite a bit to get done too..so Goodbye, Sayonara, Alvida - nope, Alvida matt kaho. Phir milne ki umeed mar jaati hai (SRK style - well more like Rani..but hey SRK was there too..😆)
I'll miss you guys..!! Don't worry..I'll be back..!! 😉
Love,
Sanaa
PS - That means no updates..and VERYY short comments if I can sign in through my mobile..which keeps giving me problems anyways..partly coz the format isn't too great from my phone and partly coz it's sooo freaking SLOW! 😆
So PLEASEEE all FF writers..(specially Shru, Aanya, Maitree, Simmy and Debu and Rachna - if you're reading this..) please do send me PMs even on the tiniest installment..and on any problem..- though I hope not - which occurs..😃 Love you all..!!!

Okay, I don't come online regularly for 2 weeks, and its all upside down! 😆

LOL!

But yeah, coming to the comments issue. Lol, I've dealt with this issue so many times now, its become very predictable of me! But I can't help it. And I agree with Sanaa on every word.

I don't know if you guys are actually unaware of our efforts, or you guys are just genuinely ignorant and rude, but whatever it is, it is about time you guys come around. What is it about a few readers that they just refuse to comment? In spite of all the requests for comments, the threats, seriously, what, you guys turn a deaf ear to EVERYTHING? Then seriously, quit reading our work! I mean I don't know how great we are in writing and stuff, but we do put in a lot of effort, and you can't spare 2 minutes for writing 3 lines? Then frankly, you don't deserve to read our stuff, be it good work or not, either way, you guys just don't deserve it!

I repeat, some people who don't comment on just some selective work, are writers themselves! I see their comments everywhere, but on our work, its 'Likes'. So it can't be that they're 'busy' or they're swamped in work. Frankly, I used to love reading these 'writers' FFs, but now, I don't even bother checking those threads! Why should I? A 'writer' themselves is not acknowledging another writer's efforts? Classic.

And yeah one more thing, just so you silent readers know, we writers have a life too! We have work, academia, exams, personal lives, all sorts of things too! But we still slog it off just so you guys can enjoy some nice read! So please do NOT give us, me at least, the crap about being busy. Busy 365 days a year, 24 hours a day? What are you guys, Presidents of the world? And seriously, you guys don't seem very busy to read our updates. And trust me, being a regular commenter, commenting takes less time than reading the long updates we put up!

Coming to Sanaa's case, guys don't you think, such a great FF, with 3 whole Seasons, 24-25 updates in each, and this FF is still stuck on Thread-2? C'mon guys, see it for yourself, how unfair you're being! But of course, you guys must be super busy! Its not like we have a life beyond IF, so we wouldn't know!

And Sanaa, trust me, I've been there, done that, but nothing seems to work with those special cases! The silent readers, after our threats, do come around to commenting, but disappear soon after, all over again!
But also, even if people do write 'Awesome update!' and stuff, hey at least they cared enough to write something right? So don't be too upset about that! Not everyone is used to putting their thoughts into words, so they just write down a few words, just as an encouragement! They wouldn't have cared to do so if they wouldn't have read and liked your work right? So that's fine!

And oh, of course, I apologize, even if I know I'm not wrong, for offending anyone! But when you guys refuse to comment on just our work while they keep flourishing on every other FF, then we think you have something personal against us (I can't think of what, but hey, you would know the answer to that question! 😕), so we're allowed to get personal too! After all its our donkey-burden isn't it? Or you guys just think we are not worthy of your precious words of encouragement and time? Oh, then let me tell you, you aren't worth our efforts and updates either!

SO I support Sanaa in this. If she doesn't get comments, then well, I give her full permission to stop her FF! Obviously, Sanaa, you'll have to PM me the parts then, because I still won't stop pestering you! Haha! 😃 😳

*Phew* this was one heck of a note, eh? But I mean every word of it, and I'm not even sorry! I don't care if people think we're wrong, I don't care if people think we're over-reacting and being rude! But hey, what would you know?

Cheers!

To everyone who's reading this,

First off, once you finish this, move to Page 17 and see Shru's [a.k.a Castle-Beckett's] post! It's SUPER important!

If Sanaa takes the pain [I wouldn't call it pain...it's her summer hols after all, but that's a whole different thing ;)] to update DAILY, the LEAST people can do is comment!!!!

Do you guys have ANY idea whatsoever as to how utterly annoying it is to see people hitting the "like" tab and not commenting? Or better still, giving comments like "Awesome update"??? Two word comments like that make the writers blood boil :P Trust me.

And then there's the silent readers. Do you guys have keyboards at home? Then use 'em and TYPE. If you're busy or maybe not that good with words then inform the writer! Most of the time we feel that you just read and then don't comment! :P

Sorry for being so blunt and I apologize if I've hurt any of you, but I'm not taking back anything I've said.

Life Out Of Control is one of my favorite FFs and I want more of it! Point is, COMMENT!

Sanaa - You're awesomee <3 🤗

And and,
this chapter is among my favourites :) its like, so touching that it completely gets to your heart. and the way armaan and riddhima act together proves the fact that love like this is hard to find :)

NOTE/REPLY
Hahahaha..she's right guys..!! 😆 The more comments I get and the faster they come equals to the more updates I give..I could also give you guys three updates a day..so for those who've read it on the blog and feel too.."lazy"..(there's a reason I've put it in quotiations because I find you commenting on other ffs fine..!!) to comment..it's a give and take situation..!! If you guys give me the comments and opinions..(detailed ones..not one or two worded ones..!!) then you can have an update faster of the next chapter after the blog..!! It's up to you guys..
If not then I'll wait as long as I want on the blog as well..and think of it..it's not fair on those people who don't have IF accounts and aren't part of this..😕
