A Maaneet Tale

Chapter 14

*** Two Days Later ***

I got ready in a red churidar this time and sat down in Maan's car.

He started driving and I could feel his eyes on me every 5 seconds. I was just as anxious about this report as Maan was. I bit my lip and didn't realize I bit too hard. Blood started to ooz out of my lip.

I looked away and turned my attention to the window. I didn't want to get Maan upset and worried just because of a bitten lip. I cleaned my lip up with a tissue, and pretended to blow into it afterwards so Maan didn't get suspicious.

I threw the tissue outside the window and settled back to my seat comfortably. The hospital came into view and I started to twist with my dubatta.

"Baabaji, give me strength" I thought to myself and looked upwards while thinking this. I turned to look at Maan, he nodded reassuringly at me.

We got out of the car and entered the hospital. We headed towards the ward which I was appointed in. We entered the room and I saw my doctor sitting in her chair with a file of documents in her hand. I sat down and Maan sat down beside me.

Doctor: "We have got your reports" she said and looked at me, and then at Maan. She looked at the documents in her hands. I was frozen in terror. I didn't so far as blink when Maan put his warm hand on mine. Instead, I held Maan's hand tightly as I awaited the news that might change my life forever.

I could feel a bead of sweat trickle down the nape of my neck as I awaited the news that might change my destiny forever.

Doctor: "She has..." the doctor paused and I could feel Maan tense beside me. I turned to look at him and saw he wasn't even breathing. He was so still, he looked like a statue.

Doctor: "She has brain tumor" the doctor announced and I heard Maan breath a sigh of relief beside me. He relaxed back against the chair and his tight grip on my hand instantly loosened.

I also relaxed back against the chair.

Doctor: "She has a very small tumor. It should be easy to treat" she said and handed me over an appointment letter.

Doctor: "Your operation will be on the day stated on the letter --" she paused and picked up the phone which started to ring between our conversation.

Doctor: "I'll be right there" she said and excused herself. I stood up from my chair and started to fiddle with my dubatta again. I was nervous for the operation. The operation was one week from now. I was about to say something to Maan when a hard pair of arms instantly engulfed me. I could barely breath as Maan hugged me.

Maan: "You don't know how much pain i've went through these past days. I'm so sorry for all the pain i've given you. Please forgive me please --" he stopped his sentence midway and started to cry on my shoulder. I hugged him back, feeling content.

"I love you" I whispered and hid my face in his chest. I finally confessed out loud. I felt slightly shy all of a sudden.

Maan: "I love you too Geet. Don't ever leave me please..." he said and trailed off. I just wanted to keep him to myself right now.

I felt myself walk backwards and Maan pull me even closer to him. So close, nothing could seperate us. My back hit the wall. His hot body temperature started to drive towards insanity as I struggled to control myself.

He put his arms on my left, and my right, completely trapping me. His face was dangerously close to me. He brang it even closer and trailed kisses on my collarbone to my neck. I bit my lip and I could feel more blood ooz out of it.

Maan: "Hey" he whispered and wiped the blood away with his finger. He gently kissed me, sucking all the blood out of my lip.

Maan: "How did this happen?" he said softly and his thumb went over my lips.

"It was in the car. I bit it too hard..." I said and trailed off. My heart was banging so loud against my chest, I was scared he could hear it.

He kissed me again and this time, it was mixed with different feelings. Like love, passion, pain, anger, and desperation.

He sucked in my lips and I closed my eyes, surrendering myself to him for once.

I looked at them both kissing each other. They kissed each other so passionately, it hurt to even look at them both.

I clenched my jaw so hard, it hurt my teeth. This was not supposed to happen. I wish Geet would die already.

I suddenly had a great idea in my mind as I looked at both of them kiss.

"If Geet doesn't die, then I swear, my name will not be Sameera Malhotra anymore" I thought to myself. Both of my hands had curled into a tight ball as I thought of the steps to my plan. I was clenching my fists so hard, I felt my long, sharp nails dig into my skin. It felt slightly wet and I knew there was blood oozing out.

I held my hand up and looked at the trickle of blood which slid down my arm.

Geet was going to die.

With my own hands.

I watched Geet towel dry her hair. After so long, I saw her smile to herself. I could hear her hum a tune I had no idea about, but still sounding beautiful from her mouth.

After so long, I saw her happy.

After so long, I felt happy.

After so long, there was happiness in the house. Daadima was also happy. She was phoning up the best doctors in the world to treat Geet.

"Maan, what do you want to have for dinner today?" she asked as she cheerily walked down the stairs. She began muttering to herself what Daadima's favourite food was, and what my favourite food was. She began muttering other stuff I couldn't hear.

I followed her to the kitchen and watched her set the pan on the stove. I watched her cut the vegetables.

Geet: "Can you please pass the water?" she asked me without looking at me. I immediately handed her a bottle of water and she mixed the water in with the vegetables.

Geet: "Kitna kaam para hua hai. Patani sab ho payga ya nahi" she mumbled to herself and turned to the lassi which she had half - finished making.

Just as she started mixing the lassi, I grabbed her arm and pulled her towards me.

Geet: "Maan what are you --" she said and paused as her eyes rested into mine. We continued to gaze at each other until she finally remembered that she was cooking.

Geet gasped and gently pushed me away. She returned back to her cooking which was obviously burning. I suddenly felt angry.

I turned the stove off and pinned her against the wall of the kitchen.

Maan: "What about me Geet?" I whispered and gently nibbled her earlobe. I could sense her smile and look at the ground shyly. I was about to kiss her when my mobile phone rang.

I pressed my lips in anger and reluctantly broke away from her. I picked up my phone, feeling irritated and annoyed.

"Hello?" I said angrily to my phone and waited for a reply

Adi: "S-s-sory to disturb you s-s-sir, but I need y-your help right away. We have l-l-ost the Shah file and I d-don't know where it is" he stuttered and I felt the grip on my phone tighten. How could they lose such an important file?

"I'll be there" I said and slammed my phone on the dining table in anger.

Geet: "Don't take the anger out on the phone" she said sweetly and went back to her cooking.

"I need to go. Adi needs me. I'll be back really quick" I added on when she started moaning like a little kid. I gave her a quick but passionate kiss and a tight hug before I left.

I watched him half-walk and half-run towards the exit of Khurana Mansion. I wish Maan could stay but I guess work is important.

I returned back to my cooking and decided to deal with him when we were alone in our bedroom. I sprinkled in the ingrediants and paused when I heard the doorbell ring.

I decided that Daadima could take it but when the door continued on rining, I was forced to abandon my cooking once again. I turned off the stove and half-walk, half-ran to the door.

"Coming" I said and opened the door, only to find Sameera there.

She was crying again and she instantly hugged me tightly, making me tumble backwards. I had no clue why she was crying, and suddenly I was worried.

"Sameera, what's wrong?" I asked and she broke the hug. She wiped her tears.

Sameera: "I just found out you had brain tumor? Are you okay? I'm so sorry this happened!" she said and hugged me again.

A faint smile appeared on my lips as I rubbed her back up and down soothingly.

Sameera: "I'm sorry for all the pain I caused you. I just realized... I just realized how wrong I've been" she said and hid her face in her hands. She continued to sob more and I patted her on the shoulder comfortingly.

"It's okay Sameera. Everybody makes mistakes" I said and smiled.

Sameera: "I was wondering... If me and you could be... Be friends. If you want" she quickly added at the end and looked at me.

I was suddenly touched.

"Sure, Sameera. Why not?" I said and she came over and hugged me.

The hug felt good, but I suddenly felt something stab me.

My breathing turned into gasps as I struggled to breathe.
