Chapter Fifteen

The morning was just portraying her, no life no mood. It was dark with heavy clouds outside and the heaven was pouring its heart out just like Geet. There was constant penetrating pain in her heart, it was unbearable. She was in her room, and was putting her future in plan, she decided to her earlier decision to busy herself in studies and to leave the country that's when her parent approached her. They greeted her and asked her what is she up to and that's when she spoke her mind. Her parents looked at each other with sadness. She noticed that and pursues to get the reason out. They told her how they got the call from Savitri Devi asking her hand in marriage for her grandson. The family is very well known in the society and the name is very famous across the country due to the nature of the business they do. She didn't pay any attention to the name that they mentioned all she remember was getting married.

Right then she took the pledge to herself. She decided to follow his footsteps, now she understood his decision to get married this soon and with other reason. He was punishing him for her distrust on him. She whispered only to be heard by herself, "If you could do this then she would too." She accepted the proposal; she told them whatever they decide she agrees to it and has no problem. They were surprised with her answer; they asked her again, if she was sure, after all it's a lifetime commitment. She assured them that she knows what she is doing. Reluctantly her father took an envelope out of his pocket and handed over to Geet. Her dad spoke then, "It contains the details on the prospective." She was staring at the envelope; her parents took as her shyness and left her saying to let them know what she thinks. She told herself then as if talking to the Man in the cover, "I'll not look at you or want to know who you are. If I'm destined with you then so be it I don't care I'm ready to take the punishment of the sin that I committed." She shoved the envelope deep down somewhere in the desk. And stood up and turn to follow her parents and announce her decision. She told them that she liked the person and her answer is yes. She laid the same condition as his, her parents were shocked to hear that. After few debates they agreed to her and got in to action to accomplish the task, less than two weeks to get their daughter married. They noticed that since last night Geet is more serious then her lively self and thought it was the strangest wedding they ever would witness.

The preparation started at both Mansions in full array. After all, it was their only child's marriage preparation. The Roka was done on the very same evening of the approval of the proposal in the morning. At Khurana Mansion, Dadima as she has been desperately looking forward to the most awaited day for her grandson Maan, Geet has added an icing on the Cake. The day she had laid eyes on Geet, she was one for Maan. She had said it loud only to be heard herself. It approved her thoughts, the way these two were going around at the event. She loved the way they danced, sang, compete, argued and teased. Geet was the perfect match for Mr. Perfect. Then she had the pleasure to talk with this beautiful lass and she was completely in awe with not only her beauty, but also the display of her best upbringing. It was decided then when she had kissed her forehead, that this is the one for Maan no one else. When she confronted Maan on this topic, he in his usual self stated that he is not interested, but Dadima was after all his Dadima she got what she wanted with less emotional torture. "Poor Maan" she chuckled. One thing bothered her that she noticed some good changes in him lately, he was going out more and seemed happy and all of a sudden from last two days what has happened that he is not himself at all, infect she has never seen this part of him ever. She forced herself to shade away those gray shadows only if somehow she can find out the reason behind Maan's grim mood, she thought of Geet that brought smile on her face. She thanked Agustiya's mother to get all the necessary details on Geet as she thought since it was Ayanna's side she met her and was pleasantly surprised to find out that Geet was Ayanna's cousin. Indeed, Handa name was one of the reputed surnames as known to many as well.

Handa family were nowhere behind then Khurana's. Geet was the only daughter left to get married in the whole Handa family unit therefore it was the entire family event. Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins they had their own agenda for the event to make it ostentatious and to remember for years. Geet's father Mohindra Lal was on top of the world, since he got the call from Savitri Devi Khurana. Until this point he couldn't believe that his daughter going to be a Daughter - in - law of Khurana's. He didn't jump to the proposal right away; he still wanted to ask her daughter's permission. Those days were long gone where girls were mere the piece of furniture that could be move around whenever one pleased. His Geet was all he had and he wanted the best for her. During Ayanna's wedding, he couldn't take his eyes off of the young man next to Agustiya. He was the center of attention more than the Bride and Groom. His thoughts were only shared to himself to wish him for his daughter. Less he knew then that his wish would be granted. He smiled to it, he still remembered the sight of Geet and Maan together at one point and it was a moment to capture they look absolutely made for each other. Who knew then that they would turn out to be a lifetime couple? Although there seem to be something that it disturb him, it was ironic the way Geet has accepted the proposal only if it could be as per her wish only. When he called back to confirm, that with Savitri Devi, she sort of had the same request. They didn't ponder on it too much and agreed with the plan ahead. Today was the Shagun, engagement ceremony that marks the beginning of the wedding celebrations. It was all set to be arranged in Gurudwara for Groom side as per Savitri Devi's request and the evening was at Handa's place for the Bride since couples didn't demand the confrontation it was like old days traditional wedding. Mohindra Lal was bit of modern and traditional that suites his style.

Roka

As soon as the couple agree to wed, the roka or saith ceremony, which is an announcement that the boy and girl have found their soul mates and will look no further for a life partner, is held. The girl's mama (mother's brother) gives her the nath (nose ring) which she will wear on her wedding. The origin of this ceremony lies in the arranged marriage norm where the parents would let out the world that they are looking for a suitable match for their son or daughter. And once they had found that match, their search had come to an end. Though rings are not exchanged, the couple stand unofficially engaged after this ceremony.

geet has to make maan fall in love with her again and make him believe she trusts him and is very sorry for what ever happened.............maan should also understand that anyone in her position would think the same abt sasha and him........

I figured I take my break now rather then later. ..:D so here I am!
When will they meet..and realize its each other they're marrying?
I really hope people don't say yes to proposals just like that in the real world!?!

Nothing much. There is this huge project that I need to complete soon so getting all the pieces together. Once I have everything organized, I should be able to map out the plan and brainstorm for ideas as well.
