Chapter 76: La Verdad – Part 1

"Ms. Thalia, you have a visitor." She heard Raju kakka relay the message from outside her bedroom door and paused, placing her hands over his lips. He moved them aside and went for her neck again and this time rather than attempt to restrain him – which was nigh impossible when he was determined on a course of action – she covered her own mouth so that no sound would escape to alert Raju kakka. Her action made him pull back from where he was nibbling on her neck to smile.

"I will be right out, Raju kakka." She called out then and heard a small "Alright" before his footsteps receded.

"Do you think he knows?" She asked now in a whisper.

"Know what?" He asked as he resumed what he was doing before.

"This?" she made a gesture with her hands pointing to the space between them.

"You are going to have to be a little bit more specific, miss." He now switched to the other side of her neck, pulling down the sleeve on her nightgown.

"About this grope-fest that we are constantly engaged in like we are newly minted teenagers."

"Grope-fest? Is that what this is?" He asked, pulling back and raising an eye-brow.

"Isn't it? I haven't had this much foreplay since… since never!"

"See, that's the problem. Foreplay is the best part." He grinned now.

"I don't know how you can go on for hours upon hours without…" she didn't finish as she looked away.

"Without what?" he whispered in her ear now.

"You know! That first night when I was on Gauri's concoction, it was only self-evident why you wouldn't. But it's been four weeks of making out every day whenever there's a free moment. Don't you…" she petered off again, unable to finish.

"Don't I…?"

He was determined to make her say it.

"Shaan, I adore that you are all about this prepping part. But it's backfiring now. I can't focus on anything because all I think about is this…"

"I think it's good for you to feel this – and I am going to use your own word now – "longing" for a while. I don't think you have really enjoyed sex in the past. And maybe it's because there was not enough of this before that."

"How do you know that I haven't enjoyed sex in the past?" she asked, her eyes wide. The thing was that she was a hypochondriac of the n-th degree. For all her sexual bravado and legendary experience, she has only had two partners in the past; no one else ever got past her requirement that she needed to see a medical certificate showing that they have gotten tested and cleared for all STDs on the planet. After all that and even with the unfailing use of protection, she had been too anxious to ever really enjoy it, although she wanted to very much. But there was something about it that made her overthink the whole process while it was actually happening… am I doing it right? is he? Okay, focus Thalia… no don't focus too much… just feel… no, not like that… tell him… no, it's not going to change anything… okay, next time will be better… when would it be over? Do I have to stay and cuddle? No, of course not… I can leave… I will leave… how long has it been anyways… by then of course, any eagerness that she may have once had would have dissipated and all that would be left was this feeling that this was the most overrated activity on the planet.

This time with Shaan was the only time that she actually felt true desire for someone… but she was still nervous. What if she didn't enjoy it? What if she found it to be the same mildly pleasurable-but-not-worth-all-the-hassle that she had always thought it to be in the past? That would break her heart. Because, with him, she wanted to give everything… and that included allowing him to give her the greatest pleasure that she had always denied everyone else… but the anticipation was killing her. If there was bound to be disappointment – and she knew that he would pick up on it quickly – she wanted to know soon before she fell even deeper in love with him. Sex was important to men. And the last thing they wanted was to be stuck with a woman whose sexual appetite was all show, but seriously lacking in delivery.

"It's just a feeling I get…" he answered her question now, just when she had almost forgotten what the question was with all her wild ponderings.

She looked up at him.

"This may be harsh, but we won't do it until we are married." He said now with conviction.

"What?" She looked at him in dismay.

"What what?" He asked.

"But…" she started.

"But…?"

"What if it's not good? What if I am no good at it?" The words tumbled out of her mouth quickly before she could stop herself.

"Well, if you are no good, then I must not be any good either. And if that's the case, we'll still have other things." He said easily and she drew back in puzzlement.

"You think that now Shaan. But it becomes very important once you are married and you realize that this is it for life."

"You think I would marry you for sex?" He asked now. "If that's the case, why should I marry you? I can just have sex with you and remain unmarried forever. And besides, your pain-in-the-ass factor is so high that no amount of glorious sex would ever make up for it." He grinned as he added.

"You're purposely misunderstanding my point!" she said, feeling confused and agitated.

"No, I am accidentally understanding your point. Even if sex between us sucks, I still want you. Only you. Does that answer your question?"

Her eyes filled with tears quickly and he put his index fingers under each of her lids. "This has got to stop." He said as a few drops fell onto his fingers. "I am starting to believe the worst of myself given how often I make you cry."

She shook her head as she hugged him tightly.

"Ms. Thalia" she heard from outside the door again.

"Oh yes, I am sorry Raju kakka. I will be down in two minutes." She said as she quickly looked back at the door and then back up at him.

"Go…" she whispered.

"Alright… I will come later in the evening." He whispered and she nodded. She was finding out that sleeping in his arms – making out, cuddling, and sleeping that is… - had cured her of her aversion to her big bed. Now she could only fall asleep if he slept in the same bed with her.

And then before she knew it, he had jumped over window ledge and out of sight.

When she walked out of the room dressed, Raju kakka had come back.

"I put her in the west wing, just like the last time." He said to her now and she looked at him in surprise.

"It's Gauri?"

He nodded and she walked quickly towards the tea room in the west wing.

"Gauri? This is a surprise!"

Gauri turned around to watch Thalia walk in to the room, saying something very similar to what she had offered in greeting the last time she had been here. Except now, the tone was different – there was no smirking, sarcasm, or caustic humor – she seemed genuinely surprised. Also, she was not dressed in her satin nightgown wrapper, but had actually changed into a long dress.

Was this guilt that was making her nice and decent?

"I know. It's been some time." Gauri finally replied.

"Raju kakka is having someone bring us tea. Have you had lunch?"

Just the mention of food made her feel nauseous and she clutched her bag tightly to let the feeling pass.

"What's wrong? You look a bit green…" Thalia came over to her side quickly. "Are you alright?"

Okay, it was a major case of guilt then if the woman was acting concerned! Her heart sunk lower than she had thought possible.

She nodded before she finally said what she had come here to say. The sooner she said it, the better.

"I have come to keep my end of the bargain now that you've kept yours." Her voice came out hoarse as she made the proclamation.

"Come again?" She heard Thalia ask in confusion.

"You have kept your end of the bargain…" she started again.

"Meaning what?" Thalia interrupted.

"Have you lost your memory? You managed to successfully seduce Shiv with that potion… so…"

"What the hell are you talking about, Gauri?"

"The aphrodisiac…"

"Let's not even get started on the highly inconvenient and completely unanticipated effects of your brew! I might be tempted to do you bodily injury if I recall that again. And I did not manage to seduce Shiv. In fact, I think he has become pretty un-seducible."

It was Gauri's turn to look perplexed. "What are you talking about? He told me himself that he spent the night with you."

"No… I left the hotel room about an hour after he came in, just when your unholy water started giving me hot-flashes and I started pouring buckets of ice over myself. But wait a minute… he did say that he was going to keep the room for the night… in fact, I think his exact words were, "my wife will get what she wants" right after he told me that he was going to keep the room for the night."

Gauri felt a chill in her chest at Thalia's words.

"What do you mean he said that I will get what I want? How did my name come up?"

Thalia had the good grace to look a bit chagrined.

"Oh yeah… Sorry, in the heat of the moment, I started cursing you out saying that you are trying to kill me by giving me this poison."

"What? You told him?" Gauri's face blanched.

"I am sorry, I couldn't help myself! Besides, I am glad I did, because thankfully he knew what this thing was going to do to me and explained it all in great detail. Actually, he didn't really explain to me so much as he did to Shash… I mean, my friend. He said that it was going to make me a slave to my body's sensations and that I would be increasingly uncontrollable for like 8 hours and for my friend to take care of me and all that jazz that you conveniently left out. By the way, I have wanted to ask you this since that day." Thalia stopped and looked back at Gauri before asking, "Are you crazy? Why the hell would you ask me to seduce him when he is in love with you??"

Gauri was having trouble taking in all the nuclear bombs that Thalia was dropping at rapid speed. She grabbed onto the last and most significant thing she heard.

"He is not in love with me…" she said in a quiet voice.

"Oh God! Are you sure you are getting your doctorate? Because I am starting to doubt that you are as smart as Shashank says you are!"

"What? Shashank?" she looked up in surprise. She knew that Shashank knew Thalia… knew her very well in fact, but he had discussed her with Thalia? But that was neither here nor there… what was she saying about Shiv?

"Okay, that's neither here nor there. What I was saying about your husband…" Thalia started, seeming to read her mind.

"I believe he said something about a machete and… oh yea, he said, hold on, let me see if I can get it right with just the nonchalant heart-break with which he said it." She cleared her throat as Gauri waited with her heart pounding in her ears.

"He said, "Don't ever get married. Especially if you are in love with the witch. Because she will abuse the knowledge and find some way to take a machete and whack the shit out of your heart and not even blink an eye while doing it." Isn't that something? I have to say, it had all the romantic angst you want in a man without being cheesy and corny. Very dashing and roguish." Thalia smiled now as she met her eyes again.

"Oh God…" Gauri said, her pallor indicating that what little blood supply had been left on her face had finally abandoned her completely.

"Gauri…" she heard Thalia's voice from far away as she lost consciousness.

oh mannnnnnnnnnn I duno wat Garui is planning but I'm hoping whatever it is revolves around the idea of forcing Shiv to listen to her before he gets to it - because if Shiv has his little rant.....then Gauri will think he's doing it to prove a point against her and he doesnt want to be in this relationship other than for the baby and the fact he dnt wanna have to lost against Shashank

but if Gauri talks first then at least Shiv will know her true intentions and how much she loves him yet doesnt know of it yet
