Chapter 4: A Proposal

"Maan you are really very sweet" she said smiling.

He loved that smile, because he was the reason and the cause.

"Today, I got a call from dad" he said playing with his ice-cream.

"Really-they finally called you?" she asked surprised.

He looked at her smiling, joy reflecting in his eyes.

They had been meeting each other for the past month now and had gotten along really well. She just kept a safe distance and he just wanted to see her smile.

His usual bar routine continued and her usual two-jobs and mailing money home continued.

"Wow so what did they say?" she asked curious.

"They said that they want me to join business there" he said looking at her eyes.

"Oh, so your going?" she asked taken a-aback from this sudden news.

"Yes, I am going because my exams are this month so I'll be going the beginning of month" he said now taking a bite out of his ice-cream.

She just tried to dissolve the news in her. She was happy for him.

"Okay" she managed to say.

He looked at her sad smile appearing again.

"Nope, don't gimme that sad frown. I want to ask you something and listen carefully. Promise you won't shout?" he said holding her hand.

She looked at him and smiled.

"Okay, so since I will be the boss I have a proposal for you. No not that type of proposal'..(he said looking at her confused expression)'..I want you to come with me, because I'm offering you a job, you are qualified and the pay is much better than what you get here with both jobs combined" he said looking at her'

She was stunned.

"I make sufficient amount Maan. A Bartendar at Club 99 makes a lot" she said taking a spoonful of ice-cream.

"I know but you'll get to be with your parents too" he said winking.

"What are you saying? I don't believe this! You want me to leave Chicago and come to Delhi with you to work at your place" she said squinting her eyes and furrowing her brows.

"You know when you get old you will have to get a lot of Botox treatments. I swear women every 15 seconds you change your expression''." He said chuckling.

"Not funny" she glared.

"Tell me" he sad holding her hand again.

"Why do you always hold my hand am I a 2 year old?" she said smiling.

"No, I don't even know why myself" he said shrugging.

"Maan I don't know. I don't think so" she said turning away.

"No'.think about it please" he said pleading with his eyes.

"I don't understand why you want me to do all this" she asked him facing him again.

He knew the answer. He couldn't see the sadness anymore.

"I'll think about it" she said turning away.

"Besides you have until my exams are over to think" he said assuring her.

She smiled at his persuasiveness.

"Maan, this house echoes" she said walking beside him.

He chuckled.

"Geet thanks for offering to help me study" he said pulling her into a hug.

She froze. The moment they touched a shock went through her body.

He pulled away looking at her dazed expression.

"We are friends don't worry I remember'..you are not that type of girl" he quoted.

She smiled. She had been doing that often. He was the one who could always make her smile.

"Maan less drinking coffee and more focusing!" she snatched the coffee cp away from him.

"Hey that's my energy" he said putting.

She looked into the cup and slapped his hand playfully.

"Pepsi! Real mature Maan!! During studying you drink pepsi?" she said laughing.

He looked down embarrassed he had been caught but then both broke into laughter.

"I love this mini-library of yours" she said tying her ponytail again.

"hmmm" he nodded while going through notes.

"Geet could you pass me the blue book over on that shelf?" he asked.

She got up and went to get the book but it was high. She struggled on her tip-toes reaching for it when suddenly she melted with the touch that was just behind her.

His arm reaching up to get the book and she stood there now cold as his breath tickled her neck. He got the book and she remained in that position.

"Geet I have it" he said bringing her back to reality.

"Haan-oh okay" she said sitting back onto the arm chair in the library.

As she was about to sit down she suddenly bumped her foot onto the table'

"Ouch!" she cried loud.

He rushed over to her side and made her sit down. His hands on her waist made forget the pain because his touch tingled her and everything else tuned out.

"Are you okay?" he said worried rubbing her foot.

"huh? Uh yes" she said dazed.

"Okay Maan I'm fine go study those so I can quiz you"

"Yes Maam" he winked.

As he did his homework she looked at him and thought'

People come into your life and they make a huge impact, then one day they leave. No one stays forever. She shouldn't have met him and gotten even this close.

She then looked at him smiling while studying a smile crept onto her face.

She mentally punched herself for that and then she closed her eyes.

But as soon as she closed her eyes his image appeared. She kept blinking to get rid of it but it never went. Giving up she dozed off unconscious.
