Loved the update, Opti!! My thoughts regarding Geet accepting her parents has changed now.. I mean her parents are equally responsible and culprit in ruining Geet's life as Dev... but Maan doing the needful and her parents finally getting the courage to stand up for their daughter's happiness is admirable.

This is Shreya frm the username id Mayurrocks. 😊

Thanks Shreya. Yes, Geet's parents had wronged her in not standing up for her and letting her fight her battles alone. I still would not equate them with that crook Dev who deliberately set out to ruin a young girl's life simply because Geet's parents are not selfish, just cowards but Dev is out and out selfish being. In my fic they have redeemed themselves by at least realising their mistake and coming forward to bless her on her special day.

Continued from here:

As Geet came down the stairs of the Khurana house, she heard Dadi call out to her and quickly went up to her.

"Yes, Dadima?"

"I heard that your parents are here," stated Dadi.

Geet froze hearing this and wondered to herself, 'How does Dadima know that I have a family? Does she know everything about my past?'

As if to answer her unspoken question Dadi continued, "Maan had told me about how your brother tried to kill you because of some misunderstanding and you had to leave Hoshiarpur because your family had severed ties with you after you handed him over to the police. Although your relationship with your parents had soured after that, I felt that they needed to be present on an auspicious occasion like your wedding. So I had asked Maan to invite them for the wedding. Maan wanted it to be a surprise so I did not tell you where he had really gone and for what purpose. I'm glad to hear that they have come to attend the function. Are they comfortable at your place? "

Geet heaved a sigh of relief when she realised that Maan had not revealed the details of why her family broke ties with her. She wasn't sure Dadi would be able to digest that she was Dev's victim.

"Yes, Dadima, they are quite comfortable. Thank you for inviting them. I am really glad that they are here to witness my wedding."

"Good. Inform them that I'll be coming over to your place a little later to perform the ritual of chunni chadana. Normally the groom's sister or sister-in-law presents the bride the saree and the jewelry as a token of acceptance of the girl into their family. But since Maan has no sister and Naintara is not in town, I'll be doing the honours. Hope that's OK with you?"

Geet blushed and nodded her head.

A couple of hours later Dadi came to the outhouse with the 'kwar dhoti' which is a ceremonial gift to the bride. It contained a large brass tray on which was a red saree, traditional jewelry, lots of dry fruits and nuts and also the shagun mehndi for the ceremony to be held later that evening. Dadima handed it to Geet's mother saying that she wants Geet's hand in marriage for her grandson, Maan. Geet's mother accepted it graciously and said that it would be their honour and privilege to send their daughter as a bahu to the Khurana household.

Geet's mother dressed her up in the red saree and adorned her in the khaandhani jewelry presented by Dadi. Geet was then brought before Dadi who caressed her cheeks fondly, saying that Maan is indeed lucky to get such an innocent yet beautiful bride like Geet. She placed a red chunni on the Geet's head and blessed her. She then fed her boiled rice and milk as part of the tradition. Just as she was finishing up, Maan walked in, looking strikingly handsome in a bottle green sherwani. Geet's father applied tilak on his forehead to welcome him. Maan apologised for his late arrival but Geet's mother asked him not to bother, for she understood that he must be very tired after all the travelling he had been doing for the past two days. Geet and Maan finally exchanged rings to mark the end of the ceremony.

That evening they had the mehndi ceremony. Geet whispered something to the lady applying the mehndi, to which the lady looked back at her in puzzlement.

"But your would-be husband's name is Maan, isn't it? Should it not be 'M' then?" she asked in puzzlement.

"Sh...sh..." Geet cautioned her, turning to see if Maan, who was seated about 10 feet away, had heard her. Maan, who was busy talking to Dadi, turned in her direction just then and gave her a broad smile. Geet was relieved that he was oblivious to their conversation. She then explained to the lady that she wanted to play a prank on her man. The lady smiled at this and agreed to collude with her. Soon Geet's hands and feet were covered with beautiful motifs. Dadima then asked Maan to give Geet a dry date, half of which she was to have and the other half was to be eaten by him. This ritual, she explained, is said to increase the love between the two.

Maan sat next to Geet and offered her the dry date. Just as she bit into it right at the middle, he leaned forward and snatched the other half with his mouth. In the process his lips brushed hers lightly, much to her mortification. The people around them clapped and whistled encouragingly, further heightening her embarrassment. Maan seemed unmindful of the unwanted attention his public display of affection was getting them, as he arrogantly surveyed the crowd and smiled at them imperially.

Coming to Geet's rescue, Dadi tweaked her grandson's ear and dragged him away from her, saying, "Geet, I'll see to it that my grandson behaves himself at least until the wedding. After that it is up to you to tame him."

That night as her mother unbraided her hair and removed her jewelry, Geet decided to clarify something which had been troubling her for some time now.

"Maa, there is something I want to ask you."

"Yes, Geet beta, what is it?" asked her mother.

"Well..." She dragged not knowing how to broach such an intimate topic.

"Can Maan and I... can we....you know what I mean, don't you?"

Her mother shook her head in the negative. "No, dear. I don't know what you mean". Her daughter's convoluted and incomplete query left her confused.

"Maan and I are getting married tomorrow."

"Yes, you are. Why, do you still have some doubts whether you should marry him?" asked her mother teasingly.

"Of course not. I have no doubts that Maan is the man for me."

"Then what is your problem?"

"Can we behave like any newly weds?" she asked anxiously.

"Why not?" asked her mother, still not understanding what her daughter was hinting at.

"I mean, I am pregnant. How can we... you know...how can we be really close to each other? Would it not hurt the baby?" Geet finally blurted out what was troubling her mind.

Her mother smiled at her daughter's innocence.

"So that's what is bothering you? You are worried that physical intimacy with your husband can affect your baby?"

Geet nodded her head even as her face turned red in shyness.

"Do you really think that couples all over the world abstain from physical intimacy during the entire pregnancy period?" asked her mother in an amused tone. "Believe me, it is not easy sleeping next to your partner night after night and practice celibacy. Even if you want to, I don't think your man can stay away from you that long. And why should he, anyway? From what you have told me, you seem to have had a smooth pregnancy so far. There is no problem in being together like any normal couple. You baby is well cocooned in your womb and will not be harmed. Your husband just has to keep his weight off your stomach. I'm sure Maan will take care of that."

Geet's mother gently patted her cheek indulgently. She asked her to get rid of all such unnecessary worries from her mind and instead joyfully look forward to the wedding. As Maan had arranged for additional beds for her parents in the office room in the ground floor, her mother wished her good night and went down to sleep.

Geet changed into her night clothes and got ready to go to bed. She pulled out something from under her pillow and holding it close to her eyes so that she can see it in the dim moon light streaming into the room, she broke into a broad smile.

In the meantime at the Khurana House, Maan was getting restless. He longed to secretly meet Geet and spend some time with her in what would be their last night as singles. Since he wanted to escape the attention of her parents, he ruled out a straight forward entry by knocking at the front door, but instead opted for a more devious entry. Being the shrewd guy he was, he had disabled the burglar alarm system before he left the outhouse that evening after the mehndiceremony

He waited till Dadi had gone to bed and stealthily walked up to the outhouse. He dragged a ladder to her bedroom window and deftly climbed up. Thankfully the window was open. He parted the curtains and peeped in. He squinted his eyes but could not make out anything in the dimly lit room. He climbed through the window and took a step towards the bed when he was stopped in his tracks by her endearing drawl.

"Oh Maan, you look so cuuuuute, Mmmmmmwahh."

While he was pleased to be welcomed with a flying kiss by his lady love, he sure was not flattered to hear her description of him.

'Cute?' he thought to himself, 'How dare she calls Maan Singh Khurana cute?'

He was about to intervene and admonish her for using such a sissy term to describe him but was stopped again by her words.

'I looove your chubby cheeks too! Mmmm...waahh..."

While all the flying kisses she was bestowing on him were getting him warm, the words that preceded them left him fuming.

'Chubby cheeks?' he asked himself as he pinched himself. 'She considers these chubby?'

Oblivious to his thoughts, she continued.

"And these plump thighs. I simply looove them."

He looked down at his thighs in disbelief. 'Plump thighs? How can they be, when I do my tai-chi sessions twice a day?' he wondered. 'And wait, she thinks my thighs are plump and still loves them? Has she gone crazy?'

He opened his mouth to deny her assessment of his physique but she was in no mood to stop.

"And that piece of cloth you are wearing barely covers you. I can see part of your ...." she burst out laughing without completing the word.

By now Maan had turned red in embarrassment. He was mortified that she would comment about his vital organ. He looked down at himself, wondering whether she could really see what she was claiming to see through the track pants he was wearing. As he was closer to the window, he was bathed in the moon light whereas she was still in the shadows. So he couldn't be sure where she was and what she could see.

He jerked his head up and bellowed crossly, "Geet! That's enough!"

Geet, who was in a giggling fit, was stunned into silence on hearing his voice out of the blue. She quickly leaned across the bed and switched on the bed lamp. Seeing Maan standing next to the window, she got up from her bed in a start and exclaimed, "Maan!"

Just then they heard her mother call out from below, "Geet! What was that noise?"

"Nothing Ma. Go back to sleep." Geet assured her.

Turning to Maan she asked in a harsh whisper. "What are you doing in my room at this time of the night?"

"I... er..." he fumbled for words and suddenly struck by a thought he decided to take the battle back to her court."First of all tell me why are you pretending to have just noticed my presence in the room when all this while you were staring at me and making fun of me?"

"Staring at you and making fun of you all this while? How long have you been standing at the window?" she asked suspiciously, knitting her eyebrows in annoyance.

"Long enough to hear all your adjectives to describe my face and physique." he said grumpily."How can you refer to Maan Singh Khurana, your future husband, as cute with chubby cheeks and plump thighs? Do I look like some comic character?"

Geet finally understood the reason for Maan's anger. Laughing at his misunderstanding she said, "Yeh lo! You thought that I was referring to your present looks? I did not even know that you were in the room till now."

"I heard you address me as Maan. You cannot bluff me, Geet," Maan wagged his finger at her.

"Oh yes, I was referring to Maan but not you."

"What do you mean?" he asked in a confused voice.

"I was referring to him." she said and picked up a picture which was lying near her pillow.

He snatched it from her hands and examined it closely. It was a picture of him when he was a baby.

"I was talking to my sweet and cute baby Maan," she declared.

"Where did you get this picture?" he asked flapping the picture in his hand.

"From your family album which Dadima had shown me yesterday. I couldn't resist stealing this one. You looked so chubby and cute back then," she said and snatching the picture back from him, she kissed the baby in it once again.

Maan was jealous of the kisses that his baby picture was getting from her while he himself was getting none.

He held her firmly by her shoulders and jerked her so as to make her look into his eyes.

"You'd rather give those kisses to a picture of me than give them to me in person, would you?" he asked in frustration.

She smiled at him and asked him teasingly, "My, my! So now you are jealous of yourself?"

He did not answer her but holding her face between his hands, he pulled her face towards himself in a swift motion and covered her lips in a scorching kiss. By the time he released her lips a few minutes, she was gasping for air.

"Now, that was the trailer for what is in store for you once I make you mine before the world tomorrow," he said gruffly and without waiting for her response, he briskly walked up to the window. Stepping out over the ledge, he disappeared from her view. Geet slowly ran her finger over her lips where his lips were pressed just moments ago and smiled shyly.
