ooooo....so sad that after writing such a long part it has just disappeared
but no problem....

Armaan was lying on his bed, deep into his slumber and lost to the world. He had been sleeping for about an hour or so when his eyes opened of their own accord, and he looked around groggily, trying to understand the urgency with which he had woken up. Then he realized that his phone had been ringing next to his ear and that's what woke him up. He looked at the time, it was 5.30 in the morning. He had barely been asleep for the past one hour.

He picked up his phone and put it to his ear even without looking at the caller id.

Armaan: hey basket….(sleepily)…kia hua? Neend nee arahi kia??

Riddhima: Armaan…? Tum so rahay thay…? (in a quiet voice)

Armaan: hmmmm…tumhare phone ka wait kerte kerte so gaya…

Riddima: oh…I am sorry, who actually meri ankh lag gayi thi…

Armaan: jhut kyun bolti ho basket…mujhe pata hai tum pareshan ho, iss liye nahi phone kia….(getting back to his senses now)

Riddhima: (stays quiet for a second and then changes the topic) tum kab wapas arahay ho??

Armaan: (smiles) abhi to ayah un Riddhima…

Riddhima: haan par…um missing you!!! (fiddles with her dupatta end)

Armaan: yeah..i miss you too…

Riddhima: hmmm…(a moment's silence) tumhari Nikki se baat hui?

Armaan: haan…actually abhi hi gai hai mere kamre se, thori der pehle…hum baat ker rahay thay, time ka andaza hi nahi rahaa….

Riddhima: hmmm…sab clear out ho gaya na?

Armaan: haan sab clear out….aik second, Riddhima…

He puts down the phone and sits up, pulling the sheets apart as Nikki barges in, wearing her pyjamas n a T-shirt, her hair all messed up, holding a packet of chips and coke.

Nikki: Armaaaaaaaannnnnnnnn…(in a sing song way)

Armaan: oh God Nik…not again!!! (in an exasperated way)

Nikki: arey, not again ka kia matlab hua….mujhe neend nahi arahi thi, aur maine socha ke agar main nahi so rahi to tum kyun so??

Armaan: wah wah Nikki…kia bahana hai tumhara…(rolls his eyes) chal, ab nikal yahan se…

Nikki: hawww…kyun??

On the other side, Riddhima is listening to the conversation and laughing.

Riddhima: hello…Armaan?

Armaan: (in to the phone) haan aik second Riddhima…

Riddhima: Armaan tum Nikki se…

Armaan: (cutting her in between) haan ussay nikaal raha hun yahan se…(looks at Nikki) ja na yaar Nikki…tang matt ker!!

Nikki: oooooooooooooooooooohhh…to Riddddhhhiimmmaaa se baat ker rahay ho…ab to main bilkul nahi jaungi…(plops down on the bed on his opposite side)

Armaan sighs exasperatedly.

Armaan: Nikki!! Stop irritating me and GO!!

Nikki: NO!!! (in the same tone)

By now, Riddhima is laughing at their stupid banter.

Riddhima: Armaan, tum ussay daanto matt….tum log baat kero, main subah call ker lungi…

Armaan: no no no Riddhima…please, tum phone matt rakho…main abhi isse phenkta hun kamra se bahar…(shooting her dirty looks as she smiled)

Riddhima: Armaaan….come on, who bore ho rahi hai…tum usske saath betho, hum kal baat ker leinge na?

Armaan: nahi mujhe tumse abhiiii baat kerni hai….(in a babyish manner)

Nikki: Awwwwwwwwwww…Armaan, tum kinnay cute ho…(pulling his cheeks)

Riddhima: (laughed) Armaan, main phone rakhti hun okay…??

Armaan: haan…jao tum….matt baat kero mere se….

Riddhima: Armaan, ab bachon jaisay behave matt kero please…mujhe jannay do na…pleasssseee…?? (very cutely)

Armaan: acha theek hai…jao…par subah uthatay saath mujhe call kerna, ok??

Riddhima: ok done!!! Take care…n say hi to Nikki from me…

Armaan: yeah okay….i love you….!! (and Nikki mouths a cute awww, at this)

Riddhima: love you too…bye..!!

Armaan turned to look at Nikki with daggers in his eyes, who was having the time of her life.

Armaan: you are loving this, aren't you?

She just shrugged her shoulders with an evil smile on her face while Armaan narrowed his eyes. He was definitely not in for a good night's sleep, of that he was sure.

Riddhima woke up the next day, feeling a bit low. Any day at work without Armaan was bound to be dull, and she was basically dreading coming face to face with her father. Till now, she was pretty sure that Padma had handled everything and made Shashank realize how much Armaan loved Riddhima.

She got dressed and took her place at the dining table, expecting only Padma to join her, as she presumed Shashank had already left. Therefore, she was extremely surprised when she saw Shashank joining her at the table.

Riddhima: (a bit nervous) good morning Papa…

Shashank ignored her as if she was not even sitting there. Riddhima put a hand on his, an he slightly flinched. Riddhima was extremely surprised by his behavior.

Riddhima: Papa ap…??

Shashank jerked her hand away and started reading the newspaper again.

Riddhima: Papa ap mujhse naraaz hain?? (tears welled up in her eyes) Papa…??

Shashank: Riddhima….jaldi nashta kero, humain Sanjeevani jaldi puhanchna hai…(in a dismissive manner)

Riddhima: Papa…?? (disbelievingly)….aap…ap mujhse naraaz hain na? Armaan ki baat ko le ker aap…(tears in her eyes) Papa please….ap samajhne ki koshish kerein…Armaan bohat acha larka hai…

Shashank: bass Riddhima…(looks up with anger in his eyes) mujhe Dr. Mallik ke barray main iss ghar main ab koi baat nahi sunani…who aur tum colleagues ho, colleagues bann ker hi raho to acha hai….main nahi chahta k iss se ziada tum donon main koi rishta ho…am I clear??

Riddhima: par Papa…yeh to nainsaafi hai….Anjali Di ne bhi to Dev ke saath….

Shashank: (cuts her in between) unki baat aur hai Riddhima…Dev aik bohat acha larka hai….aur Dr. Mallik aur uss main kia farq hai, yeh tumhain nahi dikh raha hai…

Riddhima: dikh to ap ko nahi raha hai Papa…farq hai, par kia, yeh ap samajh nahi paa rahay….(in a rude way)

Shashank: Riddhima!!! Yeh kia tareeqa hai baat kerne ka?? Kaisi baatain ker rahi ho tum??

Riddhima; aissay hi baat kerni chahye Dad, kyunki ap jo kuch bol rahay hain, uski wajah Armaan ya Dev nahi, uski wajah main hun…(shashank looks at her, shocked) Unki baat aur iss liye hai na Dad, kyunki Anjali Di apki saghi beti hain, aur main soteli…

Shashank: RIDDHIMA!! (stands up) yeh kaisi baatain ker rahi hot um??

Riddhima; theek hi to keh rhai hu main Papa…farq adoption hai….main apki asal beti nahi hun, isi liye apko meri khushi ki parwah nahi hai…haina??

Shashank: wat nonsense…tumhain pata hai tum kia keh rai ho??

Riddhima: haan Dad…(tears run down her cheeks) janti hun…aur issi liye keh rahi hun…maine kaha than a Papa…farq dikh jata hai….aj mujh main aur Anjali Di amin kia farq hai, dekh lia maine…

Just then Padma comes there…and is shocked to hear her talking like that…

Padma: Riddhima!! Beta yeh kia tareeqa hai apne papa se baat kerne ka??

Riddhima: Mama….main aur kese baat kerun? Maine aj takk ap logon se kuch nahi maanga…ap ne jo kaha, who maine kiya…aur aj maine inse sirf aik cheez mangi…meri khushi, Armaan…aur inse wo bhi na di gai…(looks down, crying hard)

Shashank: Riddhimaaa….(in a pleading tone, turns and holds her shoulders) beta tum samajh kyun nahi rahi ho? Main tumhara bhalla bura samjhta hun…iss liye tumhain Armaan se door rehne ko keh raha hun….uske saath reh ker tumhain sirf takleef milegi beta…iss liye tumhara uss se rehna hi behtar hai…

Riddhima looks at him disbelievingly and steps away from him, taking backward steps.

Riddhima: nahi Papa…ap mujhse meri jaan bhi maang lete to hanste hanste de deti, par Armaan se door rehna…yeh baat main apki kabhi nahi maan sakti!!

Saying that, with tears rolling down, she rushed to her room and locked the door, while Padma and Shashank looked at each other exasperated, and Padma sighed and left him alone. Shashank was heart broken after whatever she said, and he lowered himself into a seat, his eyes brimming with tears.

Armaan whistled as he walked down towards the breakfast table, grabbing an apple on the way and biting into it. He had just stepped out of the shower, and was feeling fresh even after the lack of sleep. He saw Nikki, Bi and another woman, about Bi's age, sitting at the table. He smiled, and walked over to them. Nikki was sitting closest to where he stood…

Armaan: Gooooddd morning…..Bi….(bends down and hugs her slightly, as she pats her cheek)….Hey, beautiful…(kissing the top of her head)

Nikki looked up and smiled….Armaan then saw the woman sitting there and smiled at her…

Armaan: salaam Fatima Bi.....(she was an old friend of Shehnaz Bi)

Woman: jeete raho beta…..(as Armaan took his seat next to Nikki, she started talking again)

Nikki: (whispered to him) kia baaaaat hai, tum barray fresh lag rahay ho!!! (winked at him)

Armaan: hmmmm…shower le ker ayah un, iss liye…tum ne to puri raat soney nahi dia….(piling food onto his plate)

As soon as he said it, the conversation on the other side halted as Bi and her friend stopped talking and turned to look at them with shocked eyes. Armaan looked at them and then at Nikki, who made an 'oh' kind of face.

Fatima: beta, tum logon ne shadi ker li aur bataya bhi nahi….arey main to hamesha na kehti thi Shehnaz, in donon ki shadi ho ker rahay gi…itnay pyaray lagte hain saath, mashallah…

Armaan turned to look at Nikki, embarrassed to the peak while Nikki blushed crimson.

Bi: areyy nahi nahi Fatima…tu ghalat samajh rahi hai…yeh Armaan to R for Riddhima se pyaar kerta hai…aur yhe Nikki bhi to A for Abhi se…(at once stops talking)

Armaan sees Nikki glaring at Bi as she covered up everything and went back to talking with Fatima Bi. Hmmm, there definitely was some talking left to do. And a lot of it.
