It depends on how focussed the youngster is. If the media hype causes him/her to lose focus, then their careers are spoiled. This happens mostly when the media raises the expectation of the people from these youngsters to abnormal proportions - and these youngster get frustrated and lose focus when they cannot perform upto that expectation.
