I am mortified! As my name would suggest, I am MrDarcyfan. I am one of the biggest fans of Jane Austen, and to me Mr Darcy is the ultimate romantic hero.

His main feature was pride, and Lizzy was prejudice. Therefore I think Ranvi and Gunjan don't fit that description.

Darcy was in essentials a good guy, but he was very proud and arrogant. He had an attitude problem. Neither of which Ranvi has. Yes Darcy loved his sister and says that he practically brought her up after the death of his parents. She is 10+ years younger than him, so he always thought of her as his kid. THAT part is consistent with Ranvi. But the rest??

Ranvi saved Gunajn's honour. Just like Darcy contributed to saving Lydia's. Lizzy's mother like Bansuri is a pain in the neck. Father is ineffective. So those parts match.

But to have my all time favourite fictional couple, the incomparable Darcy and Lizzy compared to Ranvi and Gunjan is disappointing to say the least. Especially Gunjan. She is nothing like Elizabeth. Yes Lizzy was prejudiced against Darcy. But she was not blinded by her own selfishness like Gunajn! Gunajan misunderstood childhood friends. Lizzy didn't know Darcy from a bar of soap, so what she saw was what she accepted as his character. Or more like what he SHOWED. There was a lot more to him than the pride and arrogance.

That is why I loved IPKKND. In that, ASR was like Darcy. He was arrogant and proud, but underneath he had a good heart. Khushi was like Lizzy. She could be impulsive and short sighted. So she was prejudiced about ASR for a long time and misunderstood some of the things he did. So once again pride being ASR and prejudice being Khushi. (ASR also had a sister he loved too much to complete the package).

I think in the story Veera, Baldev and Veera resemble the pride and prejudice formula better. Baldev is pride. (He is very arrogant) and Veera is prejudice. She always thinks the worst of Baldev. But there is more to him than that. Also, Veera spent many years away from home, so as adults VEEBA had not really interacted much. So in a sense, this was her first time seeing Baldev up close in many years. She always jumped on what he does wrong and conveniently dose not appear to see what he does right!!

So sorry in this case RR, but I don't think either Ranvi or Gunjan are worthy to occupy the hallowed shoes of my Darcy and Lizzy!! :)

Haha its alright..There is no need to be sorry😆 In all honestly, i don think any couple on Indian Telly deserves to be compared to Lizzy & Darcy..Not even Arnav & Kushi..Gul creates wannabe Darcys and Lizzys IMO..I 'd never compare ASR and Darcy primarily because ASR was extremely abusive..He was ruthless right from the beginning and never showed respect to Kushi as a person..The guy actually dropped her from the first floor-something Darcy wouldn't do even in the wildest of his dreams😆 Despite everything, you could always understand where Darcy was coming from..That is definitely not the case with ASR..Then of course the transformation of Darcy was wonderfully done in PnP..He apologised for things which were never his fault and more than made up for his past mistakes..But in the show, they hardly showed any redemption or regret on ASR's part..And Kushi was a very poor adaptation of Elizebeth..Lizzy was everything people wish for Kushi to be..She was fierce, independent, had a mind of her own and never let people trample over her-such a stark contrast to the Indian soap heroines who in the name of being mahaan and susheel let people walk all over them.. Kushi did lash out at ASR a couple of times but on most occasions, they made her act like a clown who was extremely tolerant of all the abuses ASR hurled at her.So yes even if a relatively perfect adaptation of Darcy were to be created in Indian soaps, i don see a character like Lizzy to be ever created given that Indian soaps thrive on making their female leads doormats ..

P.S. I copy pasted my response from an old thread where we had a detailed discussion on Lizzy & Darcy😆 You can go through this in case you are interested-

Sorry dear...Lizzy is one character I love the most in the world of fiction and Jane Austen my all time favourite...Lizzy was a really kind hearted, broad minded, outspoken, No Nonsense , sensible girl...I find these qualities absolutely missing in today's Gunjan... iam not sure if she will correct herself and try becoming a Lizzy a future but for now I cannot even compare her to Lydia Bennet of PnP.
Well I have no particular issues in Ranvi being said the Darcy because he does come close to that character...only close not match.
Ranvi has this simplicity about his character ...nobody has to spend hours dissecting out what he thinks...he thinks always right and does the same but Darcy was a complicated character even a shade dark and he had the aura of being the person of a higher society in him and prided a lot on that.

Fully agree...but to keep the heart of the topic maker I find no harm in saying that Ranvi does come close to Darcy and in the process ended up breaking your heart...sorry about that

Ed and Bella?

But Ed always had his way which isn't the same with Ranvi.
I agree with the clingy part of Bella though.😆
