"Madhu, you'll wake him up!", hushed Gopi. "I'll be careful", he replied.
"See, Radhika and Dhara are coming!", he shouted again, only to meet the face of a stern Gopi.
"Madhu, Gopi! There!", pointed Radhika. They all had gathered outside 12, Vaikunth Sagar, Mathura to celebrate the birthday of their beloved Natkhat Sakha, Kris.
Soon Sudama too joined the group and they sneaked to the 3rd floor of the building. It was quite dark as it was about midnight. Radhika flashed light onto the door knob.
Madhu touched it, thinking how to open it as it might be locked from inside, but miraculously it was open!
They tiptoed into the Flat. A divine feeling caught their senses.
"Ah! Something's slithering near my feet", groped Gopi.
"Must be a doormat , silly", said Madhu.
"Friends, I can see light from his room!", announced Dhara.
Dhara daringly tip toes towards the heavenly aura. She kept her hand on the knob and turned it...!
... Only to see a peaceful Kris sleeping without a care. Warmth filled up her face seeing her Natkhat Makhanchor asleep.
Her eyes widened in disbelief. Where was the light?
"Sh!!!", she silenced the murmuring group.
Slowly, one by one, they sneaked into the Room and took positions.
Gopi and Madhu stood right near the bed, with small drum and trumpet in hand. Dhara, Radhika and Sudama brought in the gifts they'd brought and stood near the door.
One, Two, Three
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KRIS!!!
They shouted aloud. The drums were beaten and the trumpet sound pierced the still air.
"Oh Hari!", He woke up with a start. Dau came running from the other room, wide awake by the beating sounds.
"Happy Birthday Kris!", Madhu pulled his bed sheet and threw it aside.
"Kri...", went Madhu as he almost fell onto him after tripping on the fallen bedsheets.
"Oh Lord! What ruckus!", Exclaimed Balaram. But he enjoyed this banter.
"Stop it you two", pouted Dhara, annoyed by Madhu and Gopi troubling her Sakha. She was extremely strict about her plans being executed in order. And presently, according to the plan, it was the Cake Cutting Time. Radhika brought in the Cake, His favourite Caramel Butter Flavour.
"Cake!!", Jumped Kris out of bed.
"Wait!", She scolded Him as he was about to dip his hand into it. "Cut it Kris", she chuckled.
"Ohh sorry", He blushed in embarrassment.
He cut in with so much joy that everyone beamed on seeing Him so delighted. The party was an instant success!
The Girls brought in the delicacies one by one while the boys had started an Open For All cake fight. Dhara desperately tried to being things in order but no one listened to her.
"It's alright Dhara. Let them enjoy", consoled Radhika. "Achha? Then take this!", As she splattered some cream on her cheeks. "Take this too!", Retorted Radhika and soon everyone were immersed in smooth buttery chocolate from head to toe.
"Children, haven't you brought my brother gifts?", Asked Dau.
"Yes Dau!", They said in a chorus.
Dhara was the first one to walk up to Him and hand him his brand new Flute.
"Had been saving since months, Kris! This is a Original piece"
"Thank you my dear naughty Sakhi", He replied and she blushed.
Gopi and Madhu gave him pots of Makkhan and Sudama gave Him Models of Cow.
Radhika, stood silently in a corner, admiring Him.
As everyone were busy chatting and eating, He walked to her.
"Haven't you brought me anything?", He asked in his sweet tone.
"Um... No", she said dejectedly, lowering her gaze.
"Then what is it behind you?"
She became uncomfortable at once and before she could put up a fight, he had the box in His hands.
Radhika feared now. Those laddoos that she's brought were mercilessly bitten and spoilt by the pesky rats. She'd tried hard to keep it safe but somehow, they were invaded by mice, either in school or her own home.
"Laddoos!", He exclaimed and jumped.
She winced her eyes, intending not to see his disgust at their terrible state. But all she could hear were loud munches.
"Munch... mum... They're... tasty!!"
She opened her eyes to see full, undestroyed, round laddoos!
She took the box in hand and checked them. They were undistorted!
She shockingly looked up at Him, but He was busy munching onto the delight.
And somehow, she felt that the Morpankha on his forehead was tickling.
He winked at her, much to her amusement. Kanha and his tricks!
The gang left a little while later. The midnight treat came to an end. Kris fell onto the bed, weary and tired.
Dau stood right in front, with his strong arms crossed over his chest and a stern look.
"Okay... okay... Thank you for alerting me Dau!", He accepted it.
"That's better, Kanha"
"Gosh! I can't even imagine their horror if they wouldve seen you as Sheshnaga or even Sudarshan and Garuda."
"I saw a part of it when Gopi stepped onto me. Thank God they took me to be a doormat."
"Well, you're welcome, Dau", he giggled as he threw a pillow on Him.
...
A very happy Janmashtami to all!🤗
Love,
Mahi
