Well, if this post does sound like the title of C.S Lewis's famous series The Chronicle of Narnia (The Witch, The lion, and the Wardrobe) this is what it is supposed to be. Like the film, yesterday's episode was entertaining, magical, dark, full of pain and a knowledge that something which is unsaid is far more real than our material existence.
Again I shall only be discussing few scenes and not do a frame by frame analysis.
First scene... cut back again to the salon. So, our sexy lawyer hadn't vanished and also, hadn't left... instead he was using his time fruitfully to improve his looks, to glow similarly, like our madcap.😆 Sumo, don't you be despondent your plan hasn't failed; it is just that this boy loves to make it difficult for you. Why don't you go back to your childhood and recall that even a small chocolate had to be won by you through a lot of struggle... but if those scenes are any indication, Miss Suman Tiwari is definitely going to bite him to achieve what she wants. Also, it might be that he has turned out to be a metrosexual man (will that mean he doesn't love Sumo? 😊Sumo your sidenotes have to be re-read again, my baby, this boy is as hard to get as you are as hard to understand😃) which is quite possible considering there is a ten years' time lapse between these two.
However, if we do leave this rationale for the time being why am I also being reminded of the first meeting after the ten years lapse between these two. Sumo was constantly getting caught that she had cooked for him, that it was she who had revealed about the rubik cube and all to Daboo and yet she was denying. Was Shravan getting caught in his own web? Anyways, his intelligence won't really help, after all. He is taking panga with our Sumo wrestler. Results anyone?😉
On another note, Shravan was really enjoying himself, wasn't he? He loves to play with her, (he is damn naughty) her very presence seems to animate him, make him alive. I loved Shravan... there is so much of a child within the frame of our Qutub Minar.
Next scene, a family enjoying their son's success .. . very ordinary moment and yet not so. One of those saddest scenes that stay for you for a long time and you realize that beyond the mirth and happiness, there are some stories which are yet left to be unravelled. There was this door and Shravan was hesitant to enter this family scene.. he just didn't know how to. The door symbolized his worth within that family space... he was an outsider, a ghostly presence. You could almost feel the pain, the loneliness of this boy come through.. . he was so alone and yet he wanted to see it, he wanted to feel this simple joy of parents congratulating their son on his success.
Also, when they they were taking selfies.. there is one singular picture of him being caught in that same frame. Will he be the one always and without notice to give them that happiness. Ironically, his father was also not in the picture.. so much for his love of family. And was it also an indication that Shravan Malhotra shall take on the mantle of his father, owning up to his responsibilities.
I must say that the director was brilliant. 👏In this scene, you are so much reminded of a Hans Christian Anderson's story about a poor child and her vicariously participating in Christmas revelations. Shravan was the very picture of that same desolation and yet he did also epitomize the cause of that very happiness to which he had been excluded.
Namik Paul, take a bow... you were superlative.🤗
Interestingly, he did not knock, he was so enamoured and lost and still so much outside of it.. it was Pushkar who called him in and invited him to be a part of the family scene. Shravan have you ever been a part of a family, my dear boy? You can only be a part of it if you are invited. It was tragic.😭
Before this scene, there was Shravan trying to find his precious possession (a pen) which he wanted to give it as a token of appreciation to Pushkar... A pen, wasn't it a lovely touch on the part of CVs to use a pen... giving Pushkar a chance to write a story different from what his mother (Chachi) has narrated, read and written for him. Question is will he be able to use this pen wisely or shall he lose it in his journey towards success?
In between there is a scene of Shravan talking to his London friends.. a male and a female. And both will land up in India as he is not going to return to London, at least for now. How this plays out am not very sure... I have in mind few possibilities (one of them can go the Rosencratz and Guildenstern's way : Shakespeare's Hamlet) but none I would like to believe will follow our Ekta Kapoor (maiya's) track. 😆There might be moments though we will be anxious but I believe (wish), its not going to pan out as it has in so many numerous serials.
One thing is for sure, at least this Rishi will tell something about Shravan's life in London which would also connect with the Karela episode and this girl, Riya is the same girl whose picture Sumo had inquired about. Why was this scene inserted? Apart from a realistic touch that Shravan did not only spent his time pining (which he did btw) but did enjoy (needs to be understood in relation to Sumo😉) his life out there, he had friends... yet the main reason was to foreground his awaiting a call from Sumo, early in the morning. Why did he expect a call from her? Why did he wish she would require his help? Why this constant feeling about her and for her? In spite of many friends, he was waiting only one's friends' call... a friend who was both a family and much more... recall his convo with both Rishi and Riya.❤️
I will skip Kameeni and Pushkar's convo. Only thing it was dark, plain cruel. 🤢
What was important to that scene was Shravan already knew he was an outsider to that cozy circle, yet the ferocity and the venom of Chachi did shatter him. He was stunned... the way Shravan's expressions registered shock, dismay and eventually pain that Chachi did not love him at all was heart-breaking.
Namik was again outstanding.🤗
Next important scene, Pushkar trying to find a shirt so that he could go and meet Preeti as promised. And Shravan enters. He finds the shirt for him (nice touch👏) and arranges his cupboard (Narnia anyone?😆). Cupboard, a miniature replica of Ramnath's household or the fact, that Shravan will always set the cupboard/house in order. He will be the one to give it shape and meaning. Cupboard also a metaphor of his own mind which was in turmoil and in arranging that small cupboard he managed to find his inner voice.. he will give credence to the narrative which had been built by his father. He will not let the house, its core values (read family) shatter in disarray.
Order and structure often leads you to truth. Shravan accepted the fact that truth changes its colour, its texture when looked from opposing perspectives. Pushkar agreeing to in principle verbalizes that truth cannot be hidden, it cannot be disguised. It is there as truth. You cant change its narrative. You know what I liked about this scene is that both viewpoints had its value (cut to first scene when Shravan and Pushkar had their convo regarding Urvashi fiasco) but Truth is also there, waiting for all of us ... to be understood, to be felt and experienced. Do Shravan and Sumo realize that? Will their game of outdoing each other kill or destroy that narrative of love/truth? Can truth/love be outdone by the differing perspectives about their relationship by their respective families? Will they change, disguise that truth because they need to keep the family together? Possibilities and future track...
Few more scenes, Swami Padukanand... the director has an unusual sense of humour. 😃
Sumo helping out with the blankets (and letting Preeti enjoy her free time😡) not so important and yet is. Both of them shall relinquish at one point or the other, their heartfelt desires for their families. They are both very alone in spite of both of their families being so different and so same. They need each other badly.
Next scene, Pushkar-Preeti.. I am not very sure how the CVs have planned it. Yet, these two together shall be a big problem for our sweethearts. Preeti's dialogues that she doesn't think or reflect much as it affects her make-up did sound so like Vandy.😉 And I am guessing that Kameeni Chachi will agree to Pushkar's marriage with Preeti (if the CVs want to follow this track) but not Shravan's with Sumo. If the marriage between Pushkar and Preeti happens, rest assured there shall be some fireworks, the kind we don't like.
Last scene, Shravan as soon as he has hit upon his decision to leave, he rushes to share it with Sumo... (Rishi or Riya anyone?). Same scenes plays out as that of ten years ago and as many have pointed out first it was her friends now her family. Will she again give in to pressure? This scene is an important indicator of things to come, particularly, in the case of Sumo. Sumo will one day, sometime in the future will listen to that teenage voice which once described her equation with Shravan, "tu to bana hi mere help ki liye" and shall forget about her image or reputation and go on to declare her love in front of all. (Aamir Khan... Dil Chahata Hai). Though I also personally loved the fact that Sumo was acting so casually in front of him.. no more experiments my little madcap?😆
Sorry, yesterday's episode was poignant, so much of the future track's possibilities were raised and yet it was all about them that i couldn't resist writing about it.
Please do post your views.
And sorry for this long post.😳
