And yes, Sumo was a bit of a school bully - the types that we try and avoid. The ones that I tell my children to ignore and avoid.
By nature, Bully's have low self esteem and are full of insecurities. In order to camouflage this, they bully everyone in sight, in order to feel superior.

Coming to the serial, Sumo was outwardly a confident loud mouth. But, she was probably incredibly insecure and in order to hide her insecurities she became an insufferable loud mouth. And yes, she was insufferable. Any one who at 15, when you ought to know social rights and wrongs, who behaves the way she did is insufferable. Having said that EVERY school and every class in every country has its share of classroom and playground bullies.

The problem is that a bully may actually grow up to be a completely sorted person. Or not. Either he/she will allow a certain maturity to set in, or life in general will teach them to empathise. Suman at 15 was so self-absorbed that she did not see how her words and behaviour affected her best friend. She was too much in love with herself, or seemingly so, that she failed to see the love Shravan had for her. Shravan too was at fault- he did not stop Suman at any point during their interactions. He gave her the impression that it was ok with him to be treated the way he was. And when he could take no more, he left. For Suman, Shravan was a rock that she could lean on, but when he was around she kicked him around like a small pebble. When he left, the rock supporting her was not there and she stumbled and fell. And that fall brought in maturity and it dawned upon her that she was wrong. Yet, I do not think she saw or can see Shravan's innermost feelings- she was too blind then and does not have the information now to put two and two together.

She only remembers the good times and so when Shravan comes back all changed and different she cannot identify with him. They may as well be strangers on a lonely road - both alone, both changed with new and differing perspectives, and neither has a rock to lean on.

You know something, I am pretty sure, it was her lonliness that made her have that confidence...

She didn't want to show anyone her weaker side.. plus we as audience are well aware of the fact, she had lost her parents, and her mama mamis have been too dominating, and other one is totally useless... 😭

However, I still wouldn't defend her actions, which were mean as far as Shravan is concerned, You ideally shouldn't target around weak people, who consider you as their best friend...But... Shravan as you have mentioned, he was very much Okay with what Suman was... and even after knowing her,... he couldn't rationalize reasons behind her every act...

I don't know.. it can be like Blame Game can go on and on forever for ShraMan..

I may call Sumo loud, brash, immature but definitely not a bully. A bully is a very serious term and intimidation is definitely not bullying.

The first time she met Shravan she acted like one, but she never meant physical harm, she infact tried to learn cubing from that incident. Later, after becoming friends, when the lady in the market starts bashing Shravan, Sumo was the one to go to his rescue.

The fact that she decides to ignore Shravan does not make her bad or mean. She was clear about it all through... even during the prom dress checking she does tell him what she cares a lot about her image. Yes, she was shallow but that is exactly the person that Shravan fell in love with. Sad aspect is that Shravan changed and Sumo did not change along with him... he should probably have let her be... but he could not, this on the whole resulted in his sorrow. It is like trying to change a person who did not want to be changed. Shravan, wanted to push Sumo to accept him at school and that would not have gone well with her and things would have blown out of proportions. End of the day, be it a kid or an adult, we all want to be the way we are and learn from our mistakes... our mistakes are the best teachers in life.

There is no right or wrong her... school is a different territory and there is a lot of peer pressure that kids do succumb to and I simply cannot blame Sumo.

This is how I see it... Shravan was a privileged kid, who probably got everything he wanted. Sumo was from a middle class background, lost her parents at a very young age and learnt to fend for herself. So, when Shravan could not get what he wanted viz. public recognition in school with Sumo plus Sumo herself, he was upset... Sumo had no problem with Shravan in most places other than school.

Btw, since when was it a rule to attend prom night only with the best friend? Especially when she was not in love with him?

I would not say she kicked him around. He helped her with homework, she cooked for him. They played together, shopped together etc. Shravan is a well known to her family and Pushkar knows how close these 2 where... so where was this kicking around? Refusing to go out to guard one's image can be shallow... not the other things. Look at Powder Puff... she is a senior Sumo without the brains :)

Even now Shravan behaves like the typical ASR... cannot take no for an answer 😆😆

After the party they would get to being on talking terms and fighting terms 😆

He said, Move on! She said, Bagode and he had to scheme the party for 2 weeks! If she could call him Bagode for the Jagrate night, imagine what she would do to him now... I pity Shravan... he is going to have sleepless nights :) Never wake a sleeping lioness 🤣. He is also going to have powder puff by his side for added fun 😉😉

You don't have to be physically violent in order to be termed a bully. Bullying comes in many forms. There is emotional bullying, which Sumo did in varying degrees, whether it was getting Shravan to do her homework or bullying a junior. Ofcourse, it is a totally different point that Shravan let her treat him so and I have a problem with that as much as I have with Sumans behaviour. I see many children in school being emotionally bullied. And I also see how that affects the bullied child emotionally, especially if she/he is a mild sort. The frustration that builds from within is immense, as is the self loathing.

Ofcourse, if at that stage in her life she did not find Shravan compatible romantically she has the right to feel so and turn him down. But the manner in which she does it belies her years. Ofcourse, she was too self absorbed to notice his inclination or lay it down gently. She always so him as nothing more than a dear friend. And I do agree that it does not make her a bad sort if she did not recognise the signs Shravan was showing of being romantically interested. Often we tend to ignore things that stare us in the face. I would not fault her for not having realised his love for her, or, returned that love.

Its all in the handling of the situation and I think both of them handled it badly, and so there is no where to lay the blame. Each of them is equally responsible. But the two of them have evolved - I do not think Shravan is a pushover and neither is Suman an insensitive ingrate. She is more dignified now.

So my point that, though they know each other, they are actually strangers meeting for the first time. On a lonely road and though surrounded by people who 'love' them, they are in reality alone. So it is now up to them to find each others rock.

hey Beagle, @bold well said. I guess this is where the party is eventually going to take them to...

I still find it difficult to accept that Sumo was a bully emotional or otherwise. There was an incident or two where Shravan tells Sumo that he would not do her homework if she does not do something in return and she ends up cajoling him. No relationship is equal and theirs was not too.

Sumo was loud with Shravan because he let her be so most of the time. But there were times when he did talk back and the roles reversed. This was evident even in the recent prom dress flashback where he says he will not go dress shopping with her.

Bully ...I am not sure
She seemed a little self absorbed or a regular teenager ...for one I understand Sravan getting hurt as a kid ,but 10years later taking revenge on his childhood best friend (or may be not ) I feel is stretching it too far ...hero that immature is a little diifcult to digest ...saying that I really liked the show and flashbacks till now

Poppins, we will have to agree to disagree😃. I see her behaviour as a whole a bit out of sorts. At 15, or 16 maturity or lack of it is not an excuse to be mean or insensitive (even though grown men and women can be immature too). But, she had little guidance.
The revenge drama I put down to creative liberty. In reality, as grown ups we would tend to avoid people who caused us hurt in our adolescent years. But, he was in love with her and probably still is and he wanted her approval then and Im sure he would want her around now. I think his attraction to Sumo was there from the start. Like you say, he was satisfied with the crumbs she dished out until he wanted a larger slice of the cake, the crumbs of which he had eaten and liked.

And I do think he was happy to 'move on' but her outburst provoked him and so he is now singing a different tune - tit for tat, butter for fat, you kill my dog, I kill your cat!!!

So convoluted - but I guess that is why humans are complex beings and there is little that is simple about them.
