THIRTY FIVE

Ram took Antara's suit cases and loaded up the car everyone was gathered outside ready to say bye to her. 'Where is Raghu, its nearly time to go, Daya Mai please go and check what is keeping him' Naani said. Daya Mai went back inside and called out for him it was only after the third call that Raghu started to come down as he approached her Daya Mai saw how red his eyes were she knew instantly that her nephew had been crying 'Raghu, what's wrong' Raghu smiled 'nothing just got soap in my eyes' Daya Mai cupped her nephews face 'everyone is waiting...its time'.

Daya Mai couldn't believe the transformation, he really had changed from the ruthless RNN to a humble sensitive Raghu - who would have thought it be possible. Raghu joined everyone he went and stood next to Antara 'ready' 'as ready as I'll ever be' with that she quickly went back to hug Rukku again and then went and sat in the car. The journey to the airport wasn't very long but the silence made it never ending, Antara and Raghu would steal glances from one another and on the occasion that their eyes met would give each other a small smile. As Raghu pulled into the car park he switched off his engine and took in a deep sigh, he turned to look at Antara who sat with her head lowered 'Antara are you ok?...I mean after...' Antara looked up at him and smiled I'm fine, shall we go' Raghu nodded and got out the car. Antara had spent the whole night with Raghu, although nothing had happened she woke up in his arms having spent much of the night in passionate embraces, he just needed to know that she was ok.

Antara had checked in her luggage she took Raghu's hand in hers and they slowly made their way to the departure lounge, Raghu could feel his heart sink he wanted to stop her from going he couldn't get rid of this feeling that has been eating at him for so long, he kept on feeling like something bad was going to happen. Antara still had half an hour before she needed to proceed through the departure gate. 'I'll be back in a minute' Raghu said as he walked away Antara could sense his upset, as she looked at him walk away her phone vibrated it was a message from Sahil. She has just finish replying when she saw Raghu walking back he held out a beautiful red rose, Antara smiled and her eyes glossed over with tears 'just something for the journey' Antara pulled Raghu into her arms and crushed him with a hug. Raghu knew she was crying as she was still holding onto him with the same force five minutes later. 'Antara...hey it's ok come on they have displayed your gate number on the screen' Antara pulled back and wiped her tears; Raghu cupped her face and kissed her forehead 'I wish I could stop you from leaving Antara...I...' Antara didn't let him finish catching him off guard Antara pressed onto his lips like there was no tomorrow, Raghu didn't pull back but his eyes did wonder to see the disapproving stares of passers by, he started smiling against her lips making her stop 'wow, that was a first' Antara looked around and started to blush 'sorry' she said shyly. 'You call me as soon as you land and...' 'yes I know as soon as I am in the car, then as soon as I enter the flat then...' they both started to laugh 'I love you so much, and I am going to miss you like crazy' she said kissing his chin.

As Antara walked to the gate she turned around one last time to wave good bye and then she was gone. Raghu stood still he couldn't move his heart started to ache and he wanted to scream out to her, she had really gone. After a few minutes Raghu turned and as he started walking he pulled out his phone 'Aman, I am on my way I want you to email me my schedule for today...and Aman do it fast' the only way Raghu was going to deal with this was by throwing himself into work...RNN was back.

Antara sat on the plane she had never been so nervous, it was her first time flying she closed her eyes and saw Raghu's face, she drew strength from him she could almost feel him close to her, she gave into those feelings and lost herself. 'Excuse me ma'am would you like something to drink' Antara stirred she hadn't realised she fallen asleep, she opened her eyes to see a smiling air hostess over her seat 'can I get you a drink' she asked again Antara cleared her throat 'um...yes can I have an orange juice please' Antara looked around and almost jumped out of her seat OMG, we are flying' the air hostess looked at her and chuckled 'yes ma'am we certainly are, we took off almost an hour ago' Antara reached out to grab her drink not quite believing she had slept through the whole take off.

Antara came through immigration she stood outside and had never felt so scared, she saw hundreds of people walking around her meeting and greeting their loved ones. She moved forward and started to look around it wasn't long before she saw a man in a suit holding up her name card, she walked up to him 'um...hi' she pointed at the card that's me...I'm Antara' the gentleman smiled at her and greeted her he took her trolley and she followed him to the car. 'Ma'am my name is David I will be taking you to your apartment and once you have settled in will take you to The Art House' David pulled out a card 'this is my card I have been assigned as your personal driver, please call me whenever you need to go anywhere'. Antara smiled, Raghu was so extra but she couldn't help loving his over protectiveness, as she sat into the car she pulled out her phone and dialled his number she didn't realize that due to the time difference it was in the middle of the night in India, she got Raghu's voice mail

Hi, just wanted to let you know that I reached her in one piece, David was here to pick me up ...thank you...I am on my way to the apartment will try and call you when I get settled...love you'

Antara took in the beautiful sights she could hardly contain the excitement that was building up inside her. the driver pulled up outside a beautiful building Antara got out the car was this for real she thought she looked at the driver 'yes ma'am Mr Naik has booked the top floor for you, you can collect the key from reception I will bring your luggage' Antara smiled she collected the key and opened the door 'wow' she whispered to herself, it was a massive studio flat that looked over the beautiful city, she had view of the park and its lake it was breath taking she twirled around in happiness how could she love this man any more, all her reservations and anxieties about having to live in his chosen accommodation as opposed to the one being offered had vanished she couldn't be happier.

Once Antara had settled in she went to the kitchen and found the fridge generously filled with food, she put the kettle on to make herself a hot drink. Raghu who had just woken up saw her missed call he mentally kicked himself for having missed it, he listened to her message and took a sigh of relief that she had reached safely. Raghu quickly dialled her number 'Hi' his voice sent a shiver down her spine 'hi' she said back 'thank you so much Raghu, thank you for everything' Raghu smiled 'you like it' 'like it...are you kidding me I love it..it's perfect' Antara spent the next twenty minutes talking about her journey and asking how everyone was 'I need to go, David is here to take me to The Art House I have a meeting with Emilia in half an hour' 'ok, but make sure you keep texting me and Antara look after yourself'.

The meeting with Emilia went really well, Antara was mesmerised, The Art house was beyond anything she had ever imagined it was extravagant, the building was a true piece of art in its self. Emilia took Antara to her class she introduced her to Mr Paulo her tutor and other art students that she would be working alongside. There were 4 other students that had come from across the world and three that were of Italian national. Antara smiled nervously and greeted everyone Emilia left Antara to settle in, 'Come Antara, you can sit next to Michael and Soniyah' Mr Paulo said pointing towards the other two students.

It didn't take long for Antara to make friends and become comfortable in her new environment. By the of the day she was totally at ease and had started on her new project. She was going to carry out a number of field trips during the next few days as part of her research. Antara had formed an attachment to Soniyah and Feroze both like her were international students, Soniyah was from London and Feroze from Morocco. 'We are planning to go out for a few drinks this evening, why don't you come and join us' Soniyah asked, all the students were living together in the halls of residence which was near campus, Antara being the only one living in her own apartment immediately felt out of place, she wanted to say yes but knew she had a lot to do when she got home 'not today but I promise to for next time'. As they all walked out she saw David waiting for her outside 'wow, a chauffeur' Feroze said with a sarcastic smile Antara went red, his look clearly said something along the lines of spoilt little rich girl. Antara looked at him smiling nervously 'um...yeah my family is a little over protective' with that she walked towards the car leaving her new found friends speculating about her.

Antara sat down on the sofa as the day caught up with her she felt overwhelmed and then suddenly her eyes became moist. As much as she loved what Raghu had done for her she felt like she didn't fit in everyone was together and she was here alone she lost herself in a number of conflicting thoughts becoming annoyed with herself she switched on her laptop and decided to start her research. She had totally lost track of time it was only when her phone vibrated she managed to pull herself away from the screen. It was a message from Raghu,

hey hope you are ok. How was your first day? Am in a meeting will call you when I get out

As she was about to reply her phone vibrated again

ps I love you

Antara's lips curled up into a small smile

am good, am going to email you...I love you too

Antara sent Raghu the longest email ever, it was more like a thesis, she went through the day second by second. She wasn't sure if she should mentioned how she had felt when Feroze had made the comment about David but she did hoping he would understand.

Raghu left the meeting and was about to call her when he saw her text messages, he ran up to his office and opened his emails. As he read through his email he couldn't stop smiling and laughing at it Antara always was a bit of a drama queen as he neared the end of the email he sat up

...I wasn't sure if I should say anything but ...Raghu I felt so out of place everyone is staying together in the residence The Art House provided, when Feroze and Soniyah saw David waiting for me outside the looks that they had on their faces made me feel uncomfortable like I was something I am not. Please don't get me wrong I appreciate everything you have done and I love this place but I don't want to be indifferent to everyone else...I don't know I'm sorry for ranting on...I just miss you. Hopefully will speak to you soon...love you

Raghu started to feel anger take over, he wasn't angry at Antara for sharing her feeling but at the whole situation. Firstly it was the fact that she had gone and how he wasn't being man enough to deal with it as he should and now her colleagues were making her feel out of place. she was forgetting that she was the fianc the future wife of Raghunath Naik, she could never be treated as a common person it didn't matter what people thought of her or how she felt it was something she would need to get accustomed to. Raghu didn't respond to her email as he needed to calm himself down, he decided it would be better to talk to her on the phone. He took out his phone to message her

Just read your email will call you when I get home...love you too

Antara was lying in bed when he called 'hey' 'hi' you weren't sleeping were you, I didn't really check the time' he said 'no , was just resting and I knew you were going to call so how could I sleep' Raghu smiled 'how are you?' 'I'm good, you? How is Shruti? has she had her scan she told me she would let me know' Raghu had no idea he hadn't been home much since Antara left 'I am not sure I will ask her to give you a call tomorrow I haven't really seen her...what have you got planned tomorrow?' Antara went in to detail about her field trips and research, what both of them avoided was discussing what she had said in the last part of her email. Before ending the conversation Raghu said 'Mrs Naik...no matter what you feel or what others make you feel like you will always get the best of everything and beyond...so get used to it, there is no need to feel out of place or feel bad'. Raghu didn't give Antara an opportunity to respond. She felt annoyed that he had disconnected the call having said that, as much as she loved him at this moment in time she could really just do with punching him.

The whole week passed by as one big blur, so much had happened, Antara had made a good routine and was making good progress with her project. She was breaking the barriers she had built around her after her first day and was able to have fun with her new friends. Soniyah and Feroze reminded her so much of Sara and Sahil, she missed them so much. Antara for reasons better known to her or maybe reasons she still didn't understand didn't tell anyone she was engaged to be married, she wasn't embarrassed or anything she just didn't bring it up or feel the need to mention it.
