Ok well here I am thinking once more about the characters of DMG while I should be doing my coursework.
Gina said in another post that the only consistent thing about DMG characters are their inconsistencies and so precisely put.
Riddhima- the queen of hypocrisy.
Technically all I need to do here is redirect you to the post 'the one and only riddhima' but Ill just summarise. Her character has gone way beyond the point of redemption since the fake molestation incident. The moment lost all respect for her character. Her speech is inconsistent with her actions and that's a rare combination to find. Heres a few examples:
- "Sach chupana sabse bada jhoot hota hai" // she decides to hide her di's mistake and take it as her own
- "Tumhey sahi galat ki pehchaan nahin hai"//the incident above + fake molestation + recognising armaan…..the list continues
- "Ye thik nahin hai armaan" // Ready to kiss on their very first date @ the BB court
- "Main seedhi saadhi hoon"// ready to kiss, westernised outfits, taking every opportunity to adore her beauty and getting armaan to praise her- 'kya main sach much itni khoobsoorat hoon'
- "Hum pehle dost hain"// wears his pushtani kada, payal, lets him do pretty much whatever he wants, eat his cake, dance with him….YEH….DOST.
- "Im not sure humare beech mein kya hai"- DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED AGAIN!
Oh btw- please add more- I don't remember anymore nor do I actually want to terrorise my brain thinking of her dialogues.
Armaan- perfect imperfection
I don't think many people will tolerate me saying anything against Armaan on this forum but im going to make this brave effort in the name of Analysis. His perfection is an imperfection. This can be interpreted in two ways. One that he is perfect in every way and since that does not occur in a real world- it is his imperfection. The way I like to see it is that since he is perceived to be the perfect man- nobody chooses to see his imperfections and flaws. His character too is flawed.
- An imbalance of morality- Armaan is always seen to be right regardless of what he does. Why? Surely if the creatives wanted to justify Riddhima having her doubts- some well-placed incorrect moral decisions, irrational behaviour and impulsive thought process would have been appropriate? Yet- we see every thought in his mind as clearly as through a glass pane. Is making this character so transparent a good thing?
- The violent doctor- that's a first. OK so he has muscles. But can they justify him being a street fight champion in his old days? Do they seriously think that a compassionate doctor is actually capable of drawing blood and injuring them on someone else and take it in a sporting way and gain pleasure from it. TO be honest I haven't been able to swallow that very well till now.
- The mild superiority complex- As gina mentions he tends to believe he is superior to others- the Rahul baiting and often implying that he's the dude, and Atul and Rahul arnt. But I dont seem to have a problem with it because atleast its consistent!!
- Personal vs. Professional- Saw it in a new light today but he's always had the tendency to mix the two which is inconsistent with his balanced and so called perfect image but consistent with human nature so its all good!
Atul-the love guru without a love life
They honestly want us to believe that someones as experienced as Armaan is going to go to Atul for advice in such matters? And what bad advice it was....to be honest this entire thing would have been a lot simpler IF he hadnt recommended not telling riddhima anything in the name of 'girls overreact'- Yeh and you know that HOW?
I have to say though atleast the characters consistent with his love for angali but not sure I can say that I can justify his love and why it exists in the first place? Blaming it purely on the creatives for not developing the track and keeping it for repetitive humor only.
Angali- Split personality ki shikaar
Or shud I say creatives ke zulm ki shikaar. She has been transformed from the more insensitive ambitious and indifferent doctor into a bubly giggling cupid for her dad and sister padma who she was neither initially even more that cordial with. Not only that, no-one is able to pinpoint an incident that could have led to this behaviour because I remember saying how she returned to being insensitive as soon as she found Riddhima to be the adopted one and how she had a problem with Padma pretending to be their mother. There was such depth of character and so many facets to her initially. They have just been abandoned completely, side tracked if I may say so to make way for the popular AR track.
Rahul- Bhatakta hua premi
Or swimming in the sea of confusion- whichever analogy you prefer. Riddhima ya muskaan. Muskaan ya riddhima. Sometimes looking at it on the surface you feel that this is again just the creatives kicking in with their sidelining to make way for AR. But ignoring that, albeit unintentionally, they are showing a real character. I feel this particular inconsistency is justified with 2 possible explanations. Either Rahul wanted to marry Muskaan but she didnt and he became defensive. Or there is the idea of idealism- Rahul thinks Riddhima to be an ideal beautiful marriage material girl and so feels he must be falling for her but infact he cares more subconciously for muskaan than anyone else and hasnt realised his love. I see depth not confusion- Only thing is- am i over-analysing or was this intentional on the creatives' part?
Keerti- the sex bomb in a lab coat.
Oh lord....mujhe to kehne mein bhi sharam aati hai.lol. A strip tease in front of her Junior Interns and then the expectation for them to respect her and view her in the same way as before? OH that AND that she's a senior DOCTOR...I think ya to creatives ka dimaag ghaas charney gaya tha or maybe they were just too drunk from a valentines day party when they wrote this. kuch to wild hona hi chahiye...purlease- realism ki to dhajjiyan hi uda di.
Again- needless to say these are my opinions so please don't stone me to death.
Happy discussion.
