Yes when OmRu fans protested that as "leads" they should be given more focus and SS, some were quick to state that only the senior couple were leads, and OmRu should be the shippers of them. That was their role in the show. (It was not like that initially. They all had SS and the show was interesting and fun and had drama). In all, the show was well balanced. But eventually for TRP they started to make the story a cliche and show Saas Bahu drama.
Of course at that stage OmRu were mostly giving reaction shots or just acting as props in the story or shipping. Most OmRu fans were naturally angry and disappointed. People complained and the channel decided to do a "Spin-Off" as a solution to give more focus to the other two boys and their lives. They promoted the show as a love story of Omkara and also Rudra, but clearly, Om was going to be given the bigger share. (At least the promos were clear on that, unlike the parent show promos which showed only the Brothers, but tried to turn the show into a Saas Bahu and Mahaan Bahu story). They even ruined the character of the older brother to some extent, and the FL's character was butchered to facilitate this.
But long story short, in a slot like 10.30pm (which I don't believe is a traditionally high TRP garnering slot. Please correct me if I am wrong. I am not from India), this show has managed to get an audience and retain it as well. Yes the parent show audience is probably watching it too. But if the people really thought OmRu were not "lead" material and were just not interested in their characters, they would clearly not continue to watch a show which is all about them. This show has less characters than the parent show. Therefore, it is very clear that these guys have a lot of people who like their characters and are willing to watch a story about them. I stand by my initial assessment. The O-BROS, are and always will be the USP of these two shows. It is people's love for them that made Dil Bole Oberoi even happen. Not their love for Saas Bahu drama or watching Mahaan Bahu's. They are dime a dozen and found in every show. This show is male-centric. Yes the show has a main female lead and soon will have it's other female lead too. But the show should always retain the Male POV, coz this story is about Om and Rudra. I really hope they don't forget it this time and to glorify the Bahu's, forget the men who brought them into their house in the first place!
