Kamasutra is basically based on a book from India about sensual pleasures between two opposite sexes.
So basically the Topic starter, Mata ji, is saying that the dance is too sensual.
Incorrect. Kamasutra includes heterosexual, homosexual as well as multiple partner sensual pleasures. Deboyon is right though, the book is incorrectly seen only for the lust aspect. It actually has a lot of discussion on social interaction, ethics of courtship, the role of respect in relationships, how husbands and wives should respect each other. Most people ignore the social and psychological relevance of the book in terms of relationships.
Summerji Kama is incorrectly translated as lust. Kama simply means pleasure and it encompasses sensual pleasures as well as other aesthetic pleasures in life. Kama is equally important as dharma, artha and moskha in life. Sutra means tying things together, and can be loosely interpreted as theory or philosophy.
I'm assuming Debayon picked Kamasutra from World History AP. I know it comes up in several history, culture, anthropology courses. Some people just don't pick the right fields. 😆 Although Debayon could be doing additional readings and practicals for extra credit. 😛
Although, this topic reminds me, someone told me there is a "pop-up" version of the Kamasutra available. You know when you were a little kid and read all these magical books where characters and places just popped to life as you turned the pages. Only, I don't think this is a children's book. Grown up pop up books is interesting.
As for the dance, I have not seen it, so I cannot comment on how sensual it was and how inappropriate it was. Personally, I don't think anything is wrong in a dance being sensual. The problem is when people make dance raunchy or vulgar - like pelvic thrusting and rude gestures. Somehow the actually raunchy dances go into mainstream popularity as music videos and item songs. The aesthetic sensual dancing gets pounded for being too sensual. I thought Jai and Vrushali's Hai Rama was a really beautiful aesthetic depiction of Indian sensuality. I have no clue if this dance being discussed here was aesthetic or raunchy.
With that I leave you with some Diego Luna & Havana Nights.
