Incorrect. Kamasutra includes heterosexual, homosexual as well as multiple partner sensual pleasures. Deboyon is right though, the book is incorrectly seen only for the lust aspect. It actually has a lot of discussion on social interaction, ethics of courtship, the role of respect in relationships, how husbands and wives should respect each other. Most people ignore the social and psychological relevance of the book in terms of relationships.

Summerji Kama is incorrectly translated as lust. Kama simply means pleasure and it encompasses sensual pleasures as well as other aesthetic pleasures in life. Kama is equally important as dharma, artha and moskha in life. Sutra means tying things together, and can be loosely interpreted as theory or philosophy.

I'm assuming Debayon picked Kamasutra from World History AP. I know it comes up in several history, culture, anthropology courses. Some people just don't pick the right fields. 😆 Although Debayon could be doing additional readings and practicals for extra credit. 😛

Although, this topic reminds me, someone told me there is a "pop-up" version of the Kamasutra available. You know when you were a little kid and read all these magical books where characters and places just popped to life as you turned the pages. Only, I don't think this is a children's book. Grown up pop up books is interesting.

As for the dance, I have not seen it, so I cannot comment on how sensual it was and how inappropriate it was. Personally, I don't think anything is wrong in a dance being sensual. The problem is when people make dance raunchy or vulgar - like pelvic thrusting and rude gestures. Somehow the actually raunchy dances go into mainstream popularity as music videos and item songs. The aesthetic sensual dancing gets pounded for being too sensual. I thought Jai and Vrushali's Hai Rama was a really beautiful aesthetic depiction of Indian sensuality. I have no clue if this dance being discussed here was aesthetic or raunchy.

With that I leave you with some Diego Luna & Havana Nights.

Yeah I guess that's what I've been meaning to say. Kama is different from karma(dumbo moment). Kama I think is closely related to the Buddhist concept of dharma, no?

Alas it would've been twice as much rewarding had we had extra credit in our school. But you don't need to be given the incentive of extra credit to read up on something interesting eh?😛

You were quite accurate with the explanation of kama. Most people misinterpret it as just sex or lust. Yes, karma is action and also the principle of consequences. Kama is one of the four purusharthas or aims of life - kama, dharma, artha and moksha.

No comments on the book as I havent read it. Regarding the dance, I am with ya Chitsji.. Jai and Vrushali had the same song dance in DID1 which was voted as the best duet too, and their dance was so wonderful to watch and not once I felt embarrassed about watching any of their steps.. Surya and Sneha had many moves that were quite embarrassing to watch.. I dont know if it's Sneha's expressions or dance moves to blame for??

I remember sneha had worn a dress which was little revealing 2 weeks back and she would always cover her top with her hand 😆..she was a shy gal but I was pretty shocked to see this act 😲..you need guts to perform with an unknown guy.I wouldn't dare to dance this form on stage even with my husband 😆😆😆😆😆😆

Dont go selectively, wrong is wrong, it does not matter how a wrong thing is presented. Dont approve it because it was selected best duet. Same people who allowed this dance on the stage gave it the best duet award too. Dance move and expression both should be blamed. There were many people who did not like Jai-Vrushali version too. Expression may be different but dance move were bad there too.

Dont know, may be they lose some base and gain broader base. Parents are allowing all these things happening on all platform.

In this contest they only promote and push western dance forms and expressions. It is more of Bollywood then Indian. In future it should be able to overtake all other countries.
