Adi Shankracharya was born on 684 A.D. at village Kaladi in state of Keral. His father was Shivguru and mother was Aryambika. Thus mother was a religious lady. His parents were had been childless for a long period but by the worship of Lord Shankar, they were blessed with a child. So, he was named Shankar. His father died when Shankar was only three years old.
Shankar was a brilliant student and his memory was excellent. He could remember even by hearing. He got the Knowledge of Malyalam at the age of three. When he was eight years old,, he became famous. At this age he decided ot leave home and promised his mother that he would certainly return at the time of her death. His mother tried to stop Shankar but he was firm on his decision.
Child Shankar heard that Patanjali had taken rebirth in Govind Bhagwatpad. So, Shankar decided to take knowledge form Govind Bhagwatpad. Govind Bhagwat pad was deeply impressed with Shankar and at once accepted him as his student.
One day Govindacharya was lost in his meditation in his cave. The river Narmada was in full flow and the water started entering into the cav3e but Shankar placd a pitcher at the gate and all the water was succumbed in the pitcher Govindacharya was deeply impressed with Shankar and ordered him to go Kashi. In Kashi, he became Acharya Shankar. There he defeated many scholars and propounded adwait philosophy.
Acharya Shankar established Goshimath while remaining in Vyas Cave he wrote a treatise on Brahmsutra. There he preached knowledge to his students. One day a Brahmin came to Acharya Shnakar. Being deeply impressed with the knowledge of Acharya Shankar he became his disciple.
Later on he went to Kedarnath and arfter that to Badrinath.
There was a great scholar named Mandan Mishara. He did not agree to Adwait philosophy of Shankar. A contest of wit took place between Mandan and Acharya Shnakar. Mandan's wife was also a scholar, she became the judge.
Shnakaracharya defeated Mandan Mishra but he himself was defeated by Bharti, the wife of Mandan Mishra. Shankracharya was a brahamchari so he could not answer those questions related to 'Kam.
Later on Shankarcharya too knowledge of Kam and defeated Bharti Mishra.mandan Mishra became the disciple of Shankarya and named himself SUreshwaracharya.
Later on Shankaracharya went to SHrangeri and established a monastery there Acahray Shankar established mathas elsewhere also viz. Goverdhan Math in the eastern part of India (Jgannathpuri), Joshmath(u.p),Shardamath(Kathiawad) Gujarat, Dwarkapeeth and Shrangeri math. He died at the age of thirty two inh the year 716 AA.D.
There is a famous saying about Shankaracharya that he learnt four Vedas at the age of eight, at the age of twelve he got knowlge of all Shastras and at the age of sixteen he had written all books and at the age of thirty two he went near God.
Adi Shankaracharya reformed and re-defined Hindu religion at the a time when many superstitions and false rituals, had degenerated Hindu religion.
In the true sense, he was a divine spirit and the first great reforme of India.
